GTKY: Where are you!?

Re: GTKY: Where are you!?

  • I'm in Salt Lake City, Utah. I love the low cost of living, the booming economy, and the close proximity to amazing outdoor activities like hiking, camping, rockhounding, off-roading etc. But being born and raised in California I hate the snow!

  • I'm from a super small town in Maine...small and rural, meaning I'm 2 hours from the nearest mall, or any store other than a Walmart. Bright side, traveling to go do stuff doesn't seem like a big deal, because we are 2 hours from pretty much everything, so it doesn't seem like that big of a deal to do another couple hours for something we really want to do. It's pretty common for my family to take a few cars for the 4 hour trip to Portland for minor league baseball games during the summer, or even go a couple hours further on a long weekend to go to Boston. With a toddler (and now infant) we just take lots of stops, and use that fantastic download feature Netflix has now.

Even being so far away from pretty much anything exciting, the bonuses to being here are great. It's a small town where DH and I both grew up, and we live in a fantastic neighborhood with a ton of kids around the age of our littles. The upside to being in the middle of nowhere, my 2 year old's favorite good weather activity is going 4 wheeling and fishing with my cousins and their kids, and during the winter she loves going plowing with anyone willing to take her. Lol. She really likes that at our new house you can hear the snowmobiles on the trail behind our house, and she always asks to go in the "wheeler" when she hears them.

Major downside is our weather forecast for the week: Yesterday and today- wind chills at about -15, Tuesday & Wednesday- 12-20" of snow with 30 mph winds. Why do I live somewhere that the wind hurts my face?

SW Missouri here - but in that perfect little spot where the tornadoes that keep cropping up the past couple of weeks never actually hit, just sort of move around us.  Time to go knock on some wood...
I love all the walking trails we have in my area - it's a really beautiful natural area and there's a pretty active geocaching community here, so I can engage in my hobby on the trails!
  • I live in SW Virginia! I love that we are very close to a big lake for fishing, swimming, boating, etc. Just 20 min from the Appalachian Trail and the mountains for hiking and lots of microbreweries and wineries nearby as well. It's a great place to live!
  • @mmaru so glad you've also been able to avoid those tornados!! I've always wanted to try geocaching. It sounds like so much fun!!

  • We're in Oklahoma. Probably the best thing about is how friendly everyone is. But the real reason we live here is because my family are all here. I can see them whenever I want and there are plenty of babysitters on hand;)

@Jilliants DH and lived right around there for the first 7 months after we got married. We were in Dania Beach.

  • Newburgh, NY. Right smack dab in the middle of the 12-18 inches of the snow band Heading this way from the nor'easter. Fingers and legs crossed this little man doesn't decide to show up in the middle of everything. I'm high risk and the local hospitals won't take me so we have an hour drive on a good day to get to the medical center. Who knows how long it'll take I a blizzard.

    How far along are you?

  • @ElleB11 I hope you guys made it Jaxson's Ice Cream while you were here! We're in Pembroke Pines, so a bit more west.
  • @longliveregina. I'm 37 +3. At my last Drs appt a week & 1/2 ago they did an internal exam and said I'm not dilated but very soft and probably would be ready to go sooner rather than later. With my luck he'll decide to come Monday night or Tuesday with the time change, full moon, and blizzard. The trifecta.
  • Northern VA too! We're past our due date and baby's breech sooo going to see what the docs say about a blizzard baby tomorrow.

  • @Jilliants No, we never went there. A couple times we were going to but the line was always so long. I guess we missed out:) We also thought we would be living there a couple of years but then DH got a job offer back here and we had two weeks to pack up and move.

  • I'm from Rhode Island! We live about 10 minutes outside of Providence. My husband commutes into Boston for work each day. We moved home from living in MA when we knew we wanted a family and live 1.5 miles from each set.
For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him.

I actually think I'm the least nervous person out of everyone in our families... I figure we'll just see what happens! It's not ideal (esp with the breech/past due date situation) but we'll just err on the side of caution with everything, we have ample warning with this storm thankfully so tomorrow morning we'll make a plan with the doc and go from there. We have picked up some extra groceries though, lots of healthy snacky foods. Did you stock up???

  • @sunshine507 Just on bread and milk early, since I imagine grocery stores will have empty shelves by monday afternoon. :)

  • I'm in San Francisco California. I've loved the city but really would like to move to the suburbs. We pay crazy high rent for a tiny appartment. To afford a baby on top of that I don't know how we'll do it. My DH on the other hand loves the city life and never sees us moving so we'll see how it goes till the LO starts crawling and walking.
  • @npaulie My husband's a huge Kansas fan even though he didnt go there. We have a Jayhawk onsie to bring the LO home in just in time for March Madness
  • @bayliegirl I love it!! Yeah, we were given several KU onsies. I'm so excited for LO to wear them during march madness!!!

I'm in Southern MD right across the bridge from VA. @longliveregina as I was reading I was going to ask if you were ready for the snow. But I see we have a few who may be inside for a few days. I'm supposed to have my 38 week checkup tomorrow but that may not happen if the weather is bad. We will see. I have 14 days until my due date so who knows.

  • I'm in south eastern Massachusetts. I am scheduled for a c-section inn Thursday and hope the snow doesn't interfere with my plans!
  • @ElleB11 That's crazy! If you ever make it this way again it's worth the wait in the line!

@serenity13 @mecoats @kelizr. I am also in the Philadelphia NW burbs.  Not too far from King of Prussia. I am so happy my little lady stuck with me during the storm.  I was worried too.
