August 2017 Moms

Friday Ticker change

For mamas with due dates of August 4, 11, 18, and 25

1. How far along are you? 18 weeks

2. How big is baby? Artichoke

3.  Any upcoming appointments this week? Next Wednesday

4.  Any  new symptoms? No, just stupid migraines. Oh, and not pregnancy related, but I tore my meniscus a week before getting my BFP.  I've been doing well and we're waiting till after the baby is born to do the surgery.  I stepped the wrong way last night and it's all swollen and I can't bear weight on it.

5. Rants/ Raves/ Questions?  Nope

6. GTKY: What's your favorite way to relax? I like reading, taking a bath, or the rare mani/pedi.

  • @em1017 as far as babymoon, I have a bit of advice. Last December, I was 20ish weeks pregnant with DD1 and we had already scheduled a cruise with DHs family in Southeast Asia. So it was 2 - 12 hours flights. Incredibly long time in a plane. Swelling was a major issue for me. Luckily, Zika wasn't an issue where we were, at the time. I did steer clear of a lot of the street food just to be safe. I ate mostly on the boat. If you're staying in a hotel, or are in a major city, you'll have access to bottled water and clean food. It was the trip of a lifetime for me but certainly limited what I could do. There were things I opted out of for safety precautions but still was able to enjoy myself, ride an elephant and experience so much. But you know what you can handle. I would go for it, if you can. I do not regret it one bit. Now that I have a one year old and a soon to be newborn, I'm well aware that extravagant vacations will be few and far between so I really cherish the time we got to spend together before baby.

  • @aehogan90 -- thank you, that totally helps!! we went to thailand & vietnam last year and the returning flight home was the longest most traumatizing flight i've ever been on... so i'm a little hesitant to do something similar again, especially pregnant this time (i also swell like crazy too!). it's reassuring to hear that you had such a great time though and would suggest to go for it!
spoke to my doctor today and (of course) she said not to go anywhere with any sort of Zika warning... which Asia now has a slight warning. but my husband was saying there are more cases in the US than in Asian countries soooo i'm not sure. i guess we'll just have to research some more and figure out the risk!
  • @em1017 I totally understand. The whole experience was not relaxing by any means. We were in several third world countries. We spent 3 days in Myanmar, and that was totally unfriendly to pregnant woman, just due to culture and way they live. But you make everything work the best you can. I was not approved by my doctor to go because he didn't want to be liable if anything happened. And I'm very fortunate to not have any issues since I was at the cut off in pregnancy for the cruise. I was nearly 24 weeks when we came back. But I hope you are able to go and enjoy it!
