i think the recipe MrsMoody gave you sounds great.. maybe consider using brown sugar instead of regular or half and half to make it even nicer! and it will give the crumble better color and crunch!!
I never thought about brown sugar... I should try that next time and see how it goes. That recipie I gave works good with any kind of fruit really, I've made one with mixed berries and one with peaches too.
Mix together with fork (I also use my hands to knead it together). Spread on apples (I roll it out to make a crust that I place over the apples piece by piece.)
Bake at 375F for about 45 mins.
Serve with ice cream or whipped cream - it's also really good with caramel sauce!
I use Mark Bittman's recipe for apple crisp out of "How to Cook Everything" (FANTASTIC cookbook, btw) - I always change it up and add different fruits. If you ever add more watery fruits like peaches, add a bit of cornstarch to the fruit to thicken it up a bit. For Christmas dessert, I threw in some cranberries with the apples to make it more seasonal. You could also throw in some blueberries and get some good antioxidants that way :-). It's a really easy dessert to experiment with.
Re: Anyone have a good Apple Crisp/Apple Crumble Recipe??
Yay! I love love love apple crisp, and I love this super easy recipie of my mom's even more.
Cut up enough apples (in chunks or wedges, doesn't really matter) but enough to fill an 8 or 9in square pan about half full.
Mix together 1 cup of flour and 1 cup of sugar and 1 egg until it's blended well and kind of crumbly looking (like a struesel topping).
Sprinkle over the apples until well covered. Melt one stick of butter and drizzle it over the topping.
Bake on 375 for about 35-45 mins (until the top is golden and the apples are soft).
EASY and very yum.. maybe I will make one tonight!
Here's another one:
Slice 6 apples into a greased baking dish.
MIX:
1 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
ADD:
1/3 c. melted butter
1 egg
Mix together with fork (I also use my hands to knead it together). Spread on apples (I roll it out to make a crust that I place over the apples piece by piece.)
Bake at 375F for about 45 mins.
Serve with ice cream or whipped cream - it's also really good with caramel sauce!
