  • @satsumasandlemons What are your options for Japanese middle names?  Just curious!  I really like Lydia Elliot from your choices but I also think Margot is a great name.

  • @OperaSingerMommy, my mom hasn't suggested any yet - dd's mn is misaki so she wants to suggest some names that will include the 'mi' character in it (my mn has that character, too).

also, dd's name has a retro-ish vibe so i think it would actually pair with margot better than lydia - definitely better than olivia or layla which dd is rooting for!
  • Aria has been on our list since I was pregnant with dd. I've never seen Game of Thrones or Pretty Little Liars. I'm guessing they are characters on the show?

@chiquita928 How are you pronouncing Maura? My niece is Mara Ann.
    Maura rhymes with Laura. More-a
Oh I love that! My niece Mara rhymes with Jar-a.
  • @satsumasandlemons LOVE the name Margot
  • @satsumasandlemons Something like Margot Minami would be so cute with the double M sound. If you're going to do two middle names, I'd put Elliott last so that you get the cute alliteration with the Mi- name.

I lived in Hawaii for 3 years so I had a lot of friends with Japanese names :)

  • Thank you! But since we're now very much Team Blue, his name is Lukas Alexander Clark.
I have to admit, I had a moment of weakness the other night when I went to see Logan; I though of changing Lukas to Logan. But nah, I'm sticking with Lukas.

Girl names got me like *angry*face*  Originally we chose Anya (pronounced Ahn-ya) but over time there was something about it that I wasn't on board with.  I like a lot of names but they are way too popular right now.  I looked through website after website for something that just jumped out at me like "Omg I LOVE that" but nothing ever did and I'm now feeling like I won't ever get that.  We strongly considered Rachel Ann which is a combination of my Grandmother's names.  Anya was still on the table though.  After talking about it, DH said he really likes Anya so since I do like it too and don't think I will ever find anything better, that's what we've decided on.  Which is really funny because he didn't like it at first and even pronounced it Onya haha!

So baby girl is officially Anya Helena (pronounced Hell-ay-na as opposed to Hell-en-a.  Great-grandmothers name)  The double A ending really doesn't bother me at all.  I would spell it Helaina or Helayna since that's how it's pronounced but that's not how my GG-ma's name is spelled so it wouldn't make sense.

ETA   I never really had any idea what my Granny's (other great-grandma's) name was so I asked my Mom.  I actually don't have any memories of Helena.  It's kind of terrible but she had a heart attack AT my Christening after-party and passed away shortly after.  My Mom's Grandma however, I do have a few memories of.  So ...

Anya Helena OR Anya Irene ?! lol

  • @stokesm21 - They are both pretty but I think I like Helena better with Anya.

@DarkSerendipity - Lukas is one of my favorites too, love the nn of Luke.

    @satsumasandlemons - I love Margot too.

I wish I even had a list of contenders to get input on but I'm at such a loss with this baby's name....  Love all the lovely names I'm reading though.

  • Boy names are proving challenging once again.

I'm 95% convinced this little fetus is a boy so it's putting extra pressure on me.

I'm just not in love with any boy names and our family has weirdly strong opinions about the one that DH loves and I am ok with, which is hard.

I think right now our choices are:
    Owen Patrick
Henry Patrick (Henry is so common that it's giving me pause even though I love it!)
Hunter Patrick (the name DH loves and his father detests)
    Connor Patrick

    and for girls it's either:
    Eliza Katherine
    Amelia Katherine

I honestly can't see us getting any closer to a decision because we've been stuck on these exact names since day 1. Humph.

Our last name is extremely common, and short and makes it really hard for any name because it puts a suffix onto it.

TTC: 1/2014 BFP: 9/24 EDD: 6/8/2015 Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.

So crazy! My sister has always loved the name Lukas, spelled like yours and was planning to name my nephew that. She switched to Logan once he was born!
  • @dancegurl1118 DH LOVES Connor. I like it but don't love it feel like it's the one. Hunter is also on our list, but down a ways. Patrick is dh's biological fathers first name and dh's former middle name!

**side note: Dh and his two brothers all changed their middle and last name to their step dads last name when they turned 18.
  • @dancegurl1118 I really like Owen and Henry! Owen was my boy choice for my 1st DD and Henry was my boy choice for DD2.

  • @alcrimmins I don't feel like any name is "the one" boy or girl. DD's name felt like the one from day One that we discussed it...so all of it is giving me pause. I've literally scoured every website and name and nothing does it for me. So frustrating!

    Ditto all this. Exactly.
  • @dancegurl1118 I'm in a very similar position. We have a girl's name all but picked out (and like 3 other options that I also love), but I have a strong feeling it's a boy and I don't particularly like any of the names on our short-list. They're all "just ok".
  • @dancegurl1118 DH and DS are both Patrick, so <3! I (as a teacher) actually think Hunter, Connor and Owen are way more common these days than Henry...so I'm a vote for Henry.  I like Eliza for the girl, too @oheliza44 ;)
  • Thanks for all your input guys. Maybe it'll just come to me in a dream or I'll see a sign about which name! That's what I'm banking on at this point  :D

  • @dancegurl1118 I like Hunter the best with Connor the runner up.  Both Owen and Henry are too common these days for me but take that with a grain of sale - thanks to having the most common name for a decade I really stay clear of anything really popular.
I love Eliza for a girl

@stokesm21 I love Helena.  It was actually one of my top contenders for first name but DH vetoed it immediately (he actually likes the name too but has a negative association so its a no go).

    @kghusker1003 Very pretty! That's DD's name too, so I'm partial :)

We also do family names for middle names.

We've had this LO's name picked out from the beginning, but we haven't told a lot of people because it's not a common name and we don't want to hear about it or how people don't like it. For the middle name we're also spelling it different (to follow the family spelling of it), and we've already had comments about "just spell it the traditional way"

  • Are "Asher" and "Xander" a bit too strange for boy names? They're on our shortlist with much more traditional names like Max, Ian and Zachary, and while I like that they likely won't have 3 other kids in their class with the same name, I'm also having a hard time picturing them for actual everyday use, especially as teenagers or adults, but I don't know if that's just me/because they're 2 of the few names where I've never actually met anyone with that name.

I'm not always a fan of non-traditional names, but I think either of these are fine. I went to college with a Xander, and I can totally picture a surly teenage Asher ;)

There are several boys with these names that my kids went to daycare with. I like Asher.
  • +1 for not being a big fan of non traditional names (not judging just not my style) but I LOVE Asher. Its a name of a character from a favorite book growing up and I love how it sounds and feels like a strong but fun name.
  • I feel like this kiddo will never get a name lol we have our gender reveal next week and my gut says it's a boy which of course we can't agree on a name. If a girl we are leaning towards Nora no middle names picked yet and I'm trying to convince dh on the boy name Ryker Dean. Siblings are Hudson Joseph and Alina Leighton so I don't want anything too common.

  • @megandchase Ryker was my boy name pick with DD, but I never fully convinced DH, and he nixed it right away when discussing boy names this time around. LOVE it though!
  • @megandchase , I'm so sorry if you're not looking for comments on it, i just think Riker's Island when I see Ryker - Hudson and Alina aren't Top Ten, but they're definitely not uncommon.
  • @meganandchase One of my favorite little boys on the planet is Ryder Dean-- so close to yours! They seem like names of cool kids (which is great!).

Asher is a very tradition, Hebrew/Biblical name. Not strange at all.

+1 re Asher being a very traditional Hebrew name. I love it!
Personally, not as much of a fan of Xander - only familiar with it as a nickname for Alexander, and just don't love the sound of it (Alexander is a great name though).

This is death for baby names!  So many you like but can't choose because they remind you of someone you'd really rather not be reminded of haha!

  • @megandchase My niece's name is Nora and it's so cute on her!  I didn't know about it at first, I always associated it as an older person name especially since I had a Great Aunt with that name (not why my sister chose it though) But now it's just so normal and it's a very old school/classic name which I love.

@CapricaAndrea Not at all.  Asher was on my boy name list even though I knew DH would never go for it.  Xander is becoming more popular.  I know 1 boy that has it and come across it every so often in my line of work.

@dancegurl1118 I feel ya.  I don't think I will ever have one name that stands out as "love it!"  So I have a short list of 2 or 3.  DH likes one more than all the others (if you saw my post) so I'm leaning more towards that one.  I also think you should go to the hospital with 2 anyways just in case.  A lot of people say looking at them is important and helps you decide.
