  • If you are new this week... Welcome! Please introduce yourself.

Hi! I'm Missy. This is my second pregnancy. The first was in fall 2015. I went in for my eight-week ultrasound and they said the baby looked small for how far along I was. They had me come back a week later for another ultrasound and the baby hadn't grown. They medically induced a miscarriage so I wouldn't have to wait weeks for my body to figure out something had gone wrong and I ended up needing an emergency D&C the next week for nonstop bleeding.

    How far along are you?

    11 weeks and three days

How are you doing? (Mentally, physically...)

I'm not going to lie, this has been rougher on me mentally than I ever expected. I'm thrilled to be pregnant again but I feel like I'm holding my breath the whole time. Each successful scan and OB appointment makes me feel a little better. But I still haven't been able to do the little things like buy anything for the baby or even write in the bump book I got because I feel like I'll jinx everything.

    When is your next appointment?

NT scan and genetic testing on March 15.

Whats the next pregnancy related thing you're looking forward to?

Finding out the gender via the genetic testing!

    Rant/Rave/Questions?

How do you guys balance the anxiety of the previous loss with the desire to be happy in the moment in your current pregnancy?

GTKY:  Who is your favorite fictional character? (From books, TV, or movies)

  • @margareth I live in NYC and would definitely be interested in a walking meet-up! I've never looked into the local boards... will have to go check them out.

How far along are you? 13 weeks 2 days.

How are you doing? (Mentally, physically...) I do feel like I'm less tired than earlier weeks and have more energy... but I still feel SO gross and nauseated EVERY late afternoon/evening. I am still taking my anti-nausea pills. When will this go away???? Mentally, I'm mostly good after a good 12 week ultrasound and blood test but also stressed about going four weeks before my next appointment. Am I less likely to drive myself nuts with a baby doppler now than at an earlier stage where it is even harder to find a heartbeat?

When is your next appointment? at the very end of the month  :s

Whats the next pregnancy related thing you're looking forward to?
ditto starting to show-- my clothes still fit, but not perfectly, and I just feel gross and larger than usual. Also I am SO looking forward to feeling the baby move!

Rant/Rave/Questions? How early is too early to buy a crib and/or stroller? I am a crazy planner and would love to start shopping, but know it might be nuts at this point... Plus irrationally I don't want to "jinx" anything.  :/

  • How far along are you? 11+3 hey, @missykhamvongsa sept 24 unite! I tell myself "every successful pregnancy has to start somewhere" and it's helped me through first tri. Other people I know say "today I am pregnant" but that one doesn't help me personally.

How are you doing? (Mentally, physically...) pretty good, I think. So excited to finally be past 12 weeks in a few days!

When is your next appointment?  not until 18+1!!!

Whats the next pregnancy related thing you're looking forward to?
going public next week...a few more grandparents and work to tell first, but we are having friends over next weekend to tell them then!

    Rant/Rave/Questions?

GTKY:  Who is your favorite fictional character? (From books, TV, or movies) oh, I dunno...Larry the cucumber? Not really, but he popped in my head and I'm sticking with it.

@zetega we already bought the stroller, but we found a great second hand deal so if we were buying new with no one chance sale I wouldn't have bought it yet. I'm considering a Doppler too...otherwise I have to go just shy of 10 weeks with no check on baby...(my first and only scan was 8+3 and I don't have another until 18+1 on April 24). But I don't want to make it worse because SO FAR I'm doing ok minus the initial freak out I had when I found out this country doesn't do first tri scans (I was lucky to get the 8 week one!)

  • @lap018 I love Redeeming Love! I think that's the only Francine Rivers' book I've read, so maybe I need to start hunting for more.

  • @zetega How awesome!  How do we proceed?  Haha.  Late March/early April would be a great time for me to start and maybe at some point others will join (though I know coordinating meet-ups for more than two people can be challenging in this busy city).  I think we're one week apart, too, and we're both PGAL, so there's a lot to talk about...
  • @lahearn18 yay!!!!! That's so exciting. Enjoy your time with DH.

@margareth I mentioned this on another thread, but I'm on the Jersey Shore, near Sandy Hook. I enjoy coming into the city when the weather is nice, so perhaps could meet up at some point.

How are you doing? (Mentally, physically...) good! Our EDD for our loss was last Thursday but we had a good IPS scan on Friday so that has me feeling good. We're past where we lost the last baby so I am optimistic

When is your next appointment? 21st

Whats the next pregnancy related thing you're looking forward to?
movement! I think I've felt a couple flutters but it's hard to know for sure.

Rant/Rave/Questions? finally telling people! Told my dad and a few friends already and my boss today. Seeing my brother this weekend to tell in person and will Skype the other one after. And now I don't feel weird about busting out the maternity wardrobe

I don't know to find/use the inbox!  Sorry for being clueless but please point me in the right direction.  Gracias!
  • @margareth if you're on computer, at the top right of the page there should be four icons: a globe, something that looks like an arrow pointing down to a book, a star, and a person from the shoulders up.  The something that looks like an arrow pointing down to a book is the inbox.

If you're on the mobile website it should be a link right under the home, real answers, registry, etc. icons at the top.

If you're on the app, I can't help...don't use the app...

  • How far along are you?  My due date was changed yesterday, so I'm 12+2

How are you doing? (Mentally, physically...) I'm ok. I will rant below. :) Physically I'm about the same- lots of uncomfortable pelvic girdle pain, heartburn, and nausea in the evening. Mentally, about baby, I'm really good. :)

When is your next appointment? NT scan tomorrow morning at 8:45

Whats the next pregnancy related thing you're looking forward to?
All of it! Growing an actual pregnancy belly, instead of this phase where I just look awkwardly chubby, feeling the baby move, the anatomy scan, finding out the baby's sex, etc, etc.

Rant/Rave/Questions? Rave: We had a good appointment and ultrasound yesterday! (I'll post a pic in the ultrasound thread.) Baby looked amazing! He/she had a heart rate  of 175, and was moving around a lot- every time I laughed, it looked like baby did a little dance with it's arms. :) Baby measured 12 weeks 3 days, so they officially changed my due date to September 18th, which weirdly makes me feel sad that I "lost" a week, haha!

Rant: I was told three times that my appointment yesterday was my NT scan. It was not. They scheduled it quickly, so I'm getting the NT scan tomorrow, but that's just more time DH has to take off work. Also, I was informed yesterday that the cell free DNA test I'm getting (had the blood drawn yesterday), will NOT tell me the sex of the baby. Not because it can't, but because the test I'm having is paid for by the state of California, and state covered tests only tell sex if the mother is over 35. Which A: makes no sense, and B: makes no sense! The genetic info is sitting there in the 9 vials of blood they took yesterday (not just for my cell free DNA, also for a general test, a cystic fibrosis test, and some extra tests because I'm 1/16 ashkenazi jewish), you're trying to tell me it would be so much more expensive and difficult to find out the sex? We asked if we could find out if we paid for the tests ourselves, and the PA looked at me and said "Yes, but I'm billing this as an elective test, so your insurance won't cover it, and you'll have to pay for it in full." Um...this is the same PA who has spent every possible moment over the last three conversations we've had stressing to me how important it is we get these tests so we can be prepared for whatever might come! AND both the triage nurse and the plebotomist said "Ooooo, exciting, you'll know the sex of the baby in just a few days!" Which seem like a weird thing to say, since my office regularly does this test for under-35 women, and wouldn't they know by now that the state won't tell us the sex of our babies? I know it's actually a pretty trivial thing in the along run, it just really annoyed me. Okay, end rant. Sorry about the novel, let's just blame pregnancy hormones, shall we. ;)

GTKY:  Who is your favorite fictional character? (From books, TV, or movies) Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, Hermione, Gandalf, Samwise Gamgee, Aslan, Sadness from Inside Out, Yoda, Jean Valjean from Les Mis, Anne from Anne of Green Gables...seriously, this list is endless. I also second @lap018: The Mark of the Lion trilogy by Francine Rivers is AMAZING. I read all three books in three days. :grimace: I might need to re-read that soon...

  • state covered tests only tell sex if the mother is over 35. Which A: makes no sense, and B: makes no sense!
This whole what is covered vs. what isn't covered is the first time in this whole process where I actually like being a 34-year-old (about to turn 35-year-old) pregnant lady. I'm sorry they're being jerks about the whole thing, though, that's so frustrating!

@Texafornian I'm so glad to hear you're getting answers and feeling more at peace. I'm still praying for a miracle for your baby! But either way, that baby is lucky to have someone who cares so much as they mom. (And you are not bringing us down at all, don't even think that. Hard times like this are what our community is here for. For my part, I'm just glad to hear you're doing better, and I'm glad to get updates so I know how to pray.)

How are you doing? (Mentally, physically...)
Mentally great! I get a little more confident each day and I'm *knock on wood* starting to feel a little better. Nausea has decreased so I'm happy about that. :-)
    When is your next appointment?
I'm going to a little ultrasound boutique tonight with my husband, mom, dad and brother. I'm looking forward to it!
Whats the next pregnancy related thing you're looking forward to?
My Gender Reveal Party that I had to reschedule for 2 weeks later. Explained in rant below...
    Rant/Rave/Questions?
I can't win with these genetic blood tests. 2 inconclusive tests because there wasn't enough fetal DNA in my blood. I had to reschedule my party and cancel out of town guests. I'm disappointed, but bigger picture is I'm blessed to have this rainbow baby. I just hope he/she isn't shy during the gender ultrasound in a couple weeks! I can't reschedule that party again!!!

GTKY:  Who is your favorite fictional character? (From books, TV, or movies)
That's tough. I can't pick one right now because all I'm thinking about is eating a pickle...  :D

  • @LaceyC1020 I'm so sorry that you went through a similar situation...I know what you mean about feeling guilty but at least the diagnosis was "incompatible with life"...that had to make the decision a little bit easier (for lack of a better word). That is kind of where i'm finding comfort...but as of now we are in the grey area of not necessarily incompatible so it makes it a little harder to make that decision.
Also...that sucks about your genetic tests!!  How could you not have enough fetal DNA at this point?? That almost makes me thing girl for you...the boy shows up pretty readily whereas girl is harder to discern from mom's dna. :) Of course, i'm probably wrong lol ...Hope you hear soon!

  • @Texafornian True, the diagnosis was easier to accept in that regard, I didn't mean to imply it was harder than what you're battling or anything. It seems very unfair that anyone has to go through this type of pain. You and your DH are in my prayers  <3 You sound like a very strong person with a good head on your shoulders though! • How far along are you:  10w6d!
How are you doing (physically, mentally): mentally, I'm feeling pretty good. Way more emotionally balanced than I thought. Physically, I'm still nauseous all the time and a little fatigued. I stopped exercising when I started feeling nauseous, so I've gained weight for sure... but my stomach feels a little firm, which is cool!
Next appointment: on Friday, I'm going in to have blood drawn prior to my NT ultrasound, which is 3/21. I also requested a heartbeat check.
Next pregnancy thing I'm looking forward to: sharing the news with the world next week! I want to get that one more heartbeat check, but truthfully, I'm starting to show, so I won't be able to wait too much longer. So...I think 11w4d will be far enough! A lot of family and close friends already know (mostly people who knew about my two losses), so at this point, it's extended family and other friends who will be finding out.
Rant/Rave/Questions: Just a rave that I find you all to be so supportive in so many ways-- it's wonderful!! I am especially enjoying reading posts of people due earlier in September, partly because I get a preview of what I might experience soon, and partly because I just like hearing your stories. I think about you all a lot, and I look forward to the times of the day I'll be able to check this board.
GTKY: I'm an English teacher and I love reading for character. It's hard picking a favorite! But I do love Nancy Drew :-)

@Texafornian I've been following your posts over the past few days and rooting for you. You and your family are in my thoughts!!! I am hoping for your miracle too.

@lahearn18 So excited for you!!! How long will he get to be home?

@amandarene112 That stinks! It really doesn't make any sense... why do 35 year olds NEEDS to know the sex of their baby?

@jena333  Yay! So glad that DH was negative, and that the wait wasn't as long as you thought.

@Texafornian You are not bringing us down at all! I'm always glad to see an update from you :) I'm still praying for a miracle for you and your little one, but will also pray that you aren't left with a terrible decision to make.

How are you doing? (Mentally, physically...) Mentally I'm good, the ultra sound last week put my mind at ease a lot. Physically, I am miserable and whiny, but I can't even blame it on pregnancy (except for the limited list of approved cold medicine)

When is your next appointment? Monday... not sure what they'll do, but I'm hoping they'll check the heartbeat.
