As a military family the increased military funding and veteran support is something I am very intrigued about. And as a Navy spouse, honoring Mrs Owens was very heartfelt and brought tears to my eyes as my husband puts his life on the line for our freedoms as well, her current reality is my nightmare.
ETA: I am sure I am gonna get some heat for opening my mouth...

Yesssss I definitely cried too... so many feels. There are definitely some things I can get behind here and the military will ALWAYS be one.

Yes. THIS EXACTLY. With deployment looming over the horizon (less than 6 weeks till estimated departue...definitely always nerve racking). I am thrilled to think funding will increase and with that the possibility of increasing access to healthcare & healthcare jobs in the MILITARY realm. (I'm not even touching the other things he said about healthcare...more so thinking about being able to provide more jobs for us spouses...)
I have a feeling the money would go to contracts (weapons manufacturing, intel from non military corporations, more fleet vahicles/boats/planes manufacturing, drone development, etc) that the real military men and women won't see much of an improvement. We spend waaaaaaay more on maintaining our military than then the next 6(?) countries combined and yet we still have problems providing for the actual military personnel, both active and retired.
@amandarene112 lol that's fair, just thought since he was talking about healthcare it was worth a chat! But I totally understand. I don't want to argue with anyone either
@daniellelynette I normally love a healthy, respectful debate. I'm just so politiced-out lately, I'm not sure I can manage the respectful part, so I'm just going to sit this one out.
@amandarene112 I see how it would be easy to get burnt out since there has been so much going on with politics, I personally don't see anyone but my one year old all day and then when DH gets home he gets annoyed when I dump all my adult thoughts on him and he doesn't want to talk about trump at all so I've got no one to discuss things with lol.
It scares me how many divisive policies he wants to bring forward. That VOICE program sounds like a disaster waiting to happen and he's still on about the stupid wall...

I agree! My dh is a marine vet! I didn't watch though because I was asleep by 8 lol (migraine/ sinuses) but I saw a video where he was talking about mrs Owens
I'm skeptical but interested to see what comes out of the healthcare reform. Obamacare obviously didn't work, but I'm not sure how HSAs are going to help anyone but the upper middle class. I'm also really interested to see how these tax cuts are going to go into effect. I think it would be really smart to give businesses tax breaks if they give their employees paid maternity leave. He's talked about both separately, but how are you going to make businesses pay their employees that aren't working without government overstepping their bounds into private businesses (everything that Trump and his party are again). If there is an incentive like a huge tax break, then maybe more businesses would offer paid or partly paid maternity leave.
@daniellelynette I appreciate a genuine hope for a friendly discussion about politics. I work in an office all day of people who just want to argue with each other. I feel like it's understandably challenging these days no matter where you stand!
As someone who was extremely apprehensive about both candidates, I was pleasantly surprised to see him keep his cool and be respectful to both parties in the room, as well as appealing to them and talking about unity. I feel like it was maybe one of the first times I really heard him explain in organized thought about what the gameplan was, and same with @mrsmgsee I'm curious to see more details and how it starts to pan out.
This is is the most involved I've ever seen millennials in politics and as a millennial I have to say I'm very happy about that.
I didn't watch it because I don't believe word he says and I don't want to waste my time with his dog and pony show. I know the federal hiring freeze has put a strain on doctors at the VA -- as a military brat it hurts my heart to Know that they aren't hiring much needed psychologists(Or other doctors). It's awful to think of all the hardworking military folks who aren't receiving the benefits they were promised when they empire. And When I heard that he paraded the widow around I knew it was true to his character but in poor taste.

I'll just read up on what was said tomorrow...
I still want to be friends with everyone in the morning.
