I know there are a handful scattered about the boards but what are you planning on telling yourself during labor? What are your favorite affirmations? Or if you've just had your babe or are a STM, what phrase(s) did you find really did the trick?
"I'm going to meet my baby soon." (This just almost made me cry)
.... and maybe the competitive side of me was saying things like "You will do better than your sister did."
For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him. 1 Samuel 1:27 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just have one word, which has been a recurring theme for me, especially through the long road it took me to get pregnant: GRACE. Each letter has a meaning, and I use this a lot when I meditate:
G-gratitude (for this gift of life) R- release (pain and all scary things) A- amaze (holy sh!t my body is amazing!) C - calm (find a moment, even a second of calmness, locate calm happy place) E- embrace (soon I will be holding my little guy!)
I'm likely having a c-section, and I'm pretty nervous about it, so this mantra can really center me. But you can make up any word and do the same thing with the letters to focus your mind.
In my Bradley method class our instructor played a song for us that repeated these lyrics over and over again.... "I am opening up in sweet surrender to this beautiful baby in my womb." It's something I'm going to take into L&D!
When I was having really terrible contractions, my husband just kept telling me "you can do this", "I'm proud of you" and "your body is amazing". It was just what I needed and I would just repeat them (while clutching the side rail and occasionally saying "sh**, sh**, sh**") haha
A couple days before I had DD I watched "The Big Lebowsky" with DH. For some reason whenever I was in pain I kept singing the songs in my head. After I kept laughing wondering why that popped in my head.
I didn't so much have a mantra as the persistent thought that there was an and point: eventually I would not be in labor anymore and I would have a baby in my arms. It helped that active labor felt kinda timeless.
So many of these are so great!! Definitely stealing some from you ladies! A mantra that I love that's helped me get through other things before is the Serenity prayer (hence my screen name) basically turning things over to God for things out of my control but asking for strength at the same time. Also like the "you are stronger than you know..." and "I can & I will" quotes.
These really resonated with me... "I embrace the concept of healthy pain." "I embrace pain with a purpose."
Also have some c-section affirmations on our bedroom wall since they kind of apply to our planned breech delivery... "I am prepared for whatever birth my body and baby need." "I will embrace the choices I make, because I make them out of love."
Re: Positive birth affirmations
I am doing this! (Not sure if it'll be in a motivational or demanding tone lol)
I can do anything for 30 seconds
hoping to find a few more on here
This one looks like it will help too. Ha!

I have some Bible verses written down to help me. I don't have them memorized at all though.
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength. Phillippians 4:13
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. Psalms 46:1
He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Isaiah 40:29
This is my command-be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid of discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
