Re: Weekly Randoms 2/27

  • @LMMama I'm thinking I'll start taking EPO after my cervical check at 35 weeks.  Then at 38 weeks I'll up the dosage and think about inserting it vagainally.  I'm a 2nd vbac and it's really important for me to go into labor on my own before 41 weeks.  I know some people aren't into cervical checks but I'm slightly obsessed with knowing my dilation even though it doesn't really matter.  I'll probably ask for a membrane sweep after 39 weeks.  They helped me dilate last time as well.

Everyone that had (or has had multiple) a membrane sweep, when did you go into labor? And when did your water break and how?

Just curious how other sweeps went.

Since I just mentioned mine I'll explain! I had a membrane sweep at 39 weeks. I was already dilated to a 2-3.  I had another apt a 39.5 weeks and had another membrane sweep. I was ansid 3 and 50% effaced.  Still didn't go into labor. I had one last sweep at 40 weeks and was a 3 and 80% effaced.  I was scheduled for indication at 40+3 and my doctor could not believe I didn't go into labor over the weekend.  I walked in to be induced already at a 6 so labor was quick and easy after that.  So although I didn't go into labor from my sweeps I still think they helped a ton and I'm totally doing it again!
  • @Mother0fDragons, I had a membrane sweep with DD1 and DD3 and never went into labor on my own.

I went into be induced with DD3 at 39 weeks and was 3cm though. Not sure if that was thanks to the membrane sweep, or the EPO, RRL, and dates.

With DS I had a sweep on my due date.  I was only fingertip dilated.   I went into labor about half a day later.

With DD my OB performed two sweeps at 39 and 40 weeks, but neither jump started labor.   I was about 2cm dilated and effacing.

ETA.  The nurses had to break my water with both pregnancies.

I had two membrane sweeps (38, 39). At the 39w5d membrane sweep I was 3 cm and 60% effaced. I went into labor on my own at 40w1d but my water broke early on. When we got to triage I was 5 cm and 60% effaced.

I dont know why im worried my water will break again. I was 5cm so it wasn't too bad or too early. My labor just stalled because of how my son fell into my pelvis (essentially blocking my broken water and forming a second bag).

And I don't know why I correlate this with a membrane sweep.
  • @MotherofDragons - I had 2 membrane sweeps (also 38 and 39) and my doctor was convinced I would go into labor very soon after. I did not and was induced at 39 and a few days and had pitocin + the doctor broke my water. After that I had a very quick labor, so who knows if the sweeps helped. They were extremely uncomfortable/painful, but brief, so I guess if it helps things along, it may be worth it.
  • @Wearmi1 My heart goes out to you and your family as you cope with losing MIL.
I lost Mom when I was about a month further along in my pregnancy with DD than we all are now. It's never a "good" time to lose a parent, but I felt especially saddened to lose her during my pregnancy.
All that is just trying to say that I'm sending BIG hugs your way and I feel for all of you.

@JessyKV No judgement here on the deep cleaning. I would have done the same thing... As a matter of fact, I'm contemplating getting it done at my house "Just Because" so i have an easy starting point for cleanliness with this LO.

  • @LMMama I took red raspberry leaf tea last time too. I don't remember when exactly, but third trimester. I also took them in pill form and had a very I painful labor. Didn't really hurt too bad until my water broke and I had labored for a whole day by then.
Im planning on asking my midwives this week when I should start.
  • @silliegirlie143 I was thinking of treating myself to a deep clean before this baby comes too.  We will have so much family coming to stay and I'd like to not stress about cleaning for a few weeks. So I'll probably do it again in a couple months. I stay home so I feel guilty about paying someone to clean my house but when I worked full time I had a cleaner come monthly so I could relax more on the weekends and be with my kids instead of scrubbing toilets.   It was totally worth it then.
  • Ugh what a day.  As if my MIL passing away wasn't bad enough.   I started bleeding today and spent some time in triage monitoring Adeline.   I guess somehow my cervix was irritated and I was bleeding.   Currently waiting at MFM for our monthly ultrasound to look at Adeline's brain.
  • @c1tym0m22, I'm so sorry.  Losing loved ones, no matter whether expected/unexpected, is so hard.  Sending lots of thoughts your way.

  • Most data says labor beyond 48 hours isn't related to the sweep and I went into labor over 80 hours after the sweep.

I just need to clear my mind of all the random and rare things that happened with my son's labor and stop thinking it'll all happen again.
  • @Wearmi1 Sorry for the additional stresss. Glad she checked out fine in triage. Update on how she's looking when you can! I hope the appointment brought you some much deserved peace!
  • @Wearmi1 I'm so sorry for your loss. That's so sudden. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family.
  • @c1tym0m22 i'm so sorry for your loss too. Thinking of you.

  • @Wearmi1 ugh - fingers crossed everything is ok. Keep us updated.

  • @krex Thank you so much for sharing. It sounds like quite the journey. I totally get being scared that she'll change her mind, but it sounds like all is going well so far!

@Wearmi1 Sorry you had even more stress today. Take care of yourself!
  • @Wearmi1 So sorry it was a "when it rains it pours day". I am sorry you lost both your MIL and had a high stress baby day

  • Well Adeline seems to be doing ok.  Nothing bad has happened with her brain since the last time we saw her.  No fluid has been pushed up further so that's good.  She's 2lbs now but in the 41st percentile so I guess she's just petite.   They didn't seem too concerned at MFM about her size.  Starting at 32 weeks I have to start weekly stress tests and ultrasounds for her growth.  I also start my bi-weekly midwife appointments starting in March.   I also have my glucose test next week.

I feel so bad for my poor husband.  The funeral home literallly took forever to pick up his mothers body from her home.  She passed away around 3-4 this morning.  They didn't come get her until 1130.  We all went to lunch after they'd left.   I went to the ladies room and that's when I realized I was bleeding.  I told him what was happening and called my doctors office.  They wanted me to come straight to the hospital.  So I left in the middle of lunch.   He was in the car a few minutes behind me after he paid the bill.  I'm not even sure how I got myself to the hospital.  I was crying and speeding the whole way there.  I was in full on panic mode.  What a day is all I can say.
  • @Wearmi1 glad Adeline is ok. Hope you and DH are able to get some rest tonight. Thinking of you.
  • Wow, what a whirlwind afternoon. I'm glad all is well with Adeline, @Wearmi1.
  • Thanks ladies.  It's just been one of those days.
  • Omg, you poor thing, @wearmi1!  I'm glad everything is ok with Adeline!

  • @Wearmi1 I'm so sorry for your loss.  Ditto to everyone else, no really vibrant colours but anything subdued would be fine.

@Mother0fDragons I had 3 sweeps at 39, 40 and 41 and was induced.  Water broke the morning after cervadil was placed.
  • Looking for some advice. I didn't see a symptoms thread, so i'm just going to ask here. Between the leg cramps and insomnia I can't sleep. I've been sleeping from about 9 pm-2 am. Then tossing and turning until 5 am when DH gets up for work. Help.me. I have two other kids I need to take care of and by 3 pm i'm done. Any things that have worked for you to help either of these problems?

  • @awoodruff27 This might make me a terrible person, but I kicked my husband out of the bed. I sleep 100x better when I have the entire bed to myself, can move around at my leisure and don't get woken up by him moving or snoring. It's not every night, but when I do, I sleep great, and we still spend time together at bedtime, he just eventually moves to the guest room.
  • @awoodruff27, I take a unisom for sleep and magnesium for leg cramps.
  • @mamaelle27 totally already did that. Haha. He says he can't sleep with me because I toss and turn so much. It did help at first, but it's not anymore.

@Stankonia2014 how did I not think of unisom?? I feel silly now. But I'm definitely going to try it tonight.

  • @Wearmi1 Ugh, so sorry you had such a terrible day!

@krex thanks so much for sharing your story!

  • DS accidentally kicked me in the stomach while trying to escape his bed last night. Bumps and kicks are normal, but this time It knocked the wind out of me and really hurt. I called the doc hoping to hear "You'll be ok, there's lots of padding, yada yada", but instead they made me come right in. So....I'm sitting in the office freaking out. Share your tummy kick success stories? I know this stuff happens when you have a toddler.
