Dd was 8lb 7oz I bought the smallest pack size of NB (I think 32 diapers) and after that switched to size one and I think we could have just started out at size one and been ok. This time around I've purchased the same pack size and if I find they're still fitting her ok I'll buy another before moving up in size
DD was 6lb 13oz. She was swimming in NB diapers. We had to roll them down like 3 times. She wore NB size for almost 2 months before she moved into size 1 and she wore size 1 for about two months before she moved into size 2. Unless you are pretty sure you are having a 9lb+ baby I would definitely at least have a small pack of NB so you don't need to run anywhere the day you come have if you don't want to. I'm not gonna go crazy, but I will probably have one small box of NB this time around.
@aboxofchocolates BRU, Walmart and target take back or exchange boxes of diapers without a receipt if I'm remembering correctly. BRU will even take back open boxes. Keep that in mind- or ask them now about their policies so you can return and/or exchange them as needed.
Id have some NB on hand, but not a ton. With growth spurts, you never know how fast a baby will go through a size, so having options are great and different brands will fit differently.

We didn't put a swing/rock a roo/ motorized thing on our registry. We figured that not all babies like them, we don't have a ton of room, etc. we put a bouncer chair for naps and we have a pack and play.
Am am I crazy for not trying a swing? Is it better to have one and not need it vs not having it and not being able to calm down a newborn? We have completion coupons and gift cards so I was curious if it would be worth it to have it on hand or just try it without and see what kind of kid LO is.
@KirstinH88 I think we got our Target coupon code either 6 or 8 weeks out. We set our registry to "secret" so I think we may have lied about the due date to get the coupon sooner...
And we don't have anyone to borrow a swing from. First grandchild and moved to a new state a year ago.
@wagnerw in that case, I would wait. Sometimes the bouncer chair is good enough for them. I didn't have a swing for DS for about the first month, but he would not let me put him down unless it was in the swing. So we were lucky enough to be able to borrow a swing from family. This go around, my mom was amazing enough to buy us a swing (hopefully this LO likes it!). But I would hate to spend money on something that you are unsure if you will ever use. UNLESS, you are planning on having more kids. Then maybe it would be worth it because even if this LO doesn't like it, the next one might. Soooo.....I'm not really helpful because I backtracked a million times on my response. HAHAHAHA!
@KirstinH88 I just got my Target coupon and I'm a week ahead of you.
@wagnerw I would wait too. In the first month, honestly, I think most people either end up holding their babies for nap or they can just sleep in the crib/bouncer. It's not going to be a dire enough need in the first few weeks anyway because those days are just skin to skin and lots of cuddles to establish good breastfeeding (assuming that's your plan! ) Target always has baby gear sales and swings are easy to find used!

@KirstinH88 Log onto your registry and then click on "offers", it should tell you when you'll get the coupon. I just got mine a few days ago, at 32 weeks, so I believe it's 8 weeks before whatever date you enter in.
@wagnerw, we didn't need a swing at all for DD1 and returned it. DD2 was very high needs so she napped in it until she outgrew it. I would just wait and see what your baby is like.
Thanks to @LittleChick2's suggestion, Inwas able to see my 15% coupon would be available in 6 days (32 weeks). So next Saturday, this mama's going shopping! Changing pad and covers, nursing bras, maybe some sleep sacks, and the rest in diapers and wipes!
I used my completion discount last night to get a dresser, conversion rails and changing table top.. they were also having a 10% off sale so saved a ton! Also you can add things to your registry even if they're not in the baby section right before you buy and get the discount on that too
So some of the spas I've researched require a doctor's note for a prenatal massage. Some mentioned that their therapists are certified in prenatal massage. Some of them mention neither of those things. I asked my doctor and she said as long as they have experience in prenatal massage I should be fine. Does anyone know the difference or whether it matters?
@HGRich I did my prenatal massage through my chiropractor's office, so it was automatically covered by insurance. In fact, they ran preauthorization and let me know ahead of time, which was really nice because I wouldn't have thought of it before. I would tend to agree with your doc about the therapist having experience in prenatal massage, but definitely do your research. Do they have it posted clearly on their website and in their office? Can you ask specific questions about prenatal massage and feel comfortable with their answers? If so, then it's probably okay. My experience with the prenatal massage was laying on my side and the massage being gentler than a regular massage. Hope that helps!
this one might be a dumb one..... can anyone else hear fluid moving around? sometimes I can hear this like sloshing sound and idk if that's just the water I drink or what?
@aboxofchocolates late to the game, but my hospital doesn't have NB diapers. All babies start in size 1 Huggies and you just learn to origami them and make it work
Did anyone else go on their hospital tour and leave feeling like they learned nothing??
I assumed that most questions I could come up with would be covered, or that someone else would ask them... nope. Not a thing mentioned about supplies offered/that you don't need to bring, policies on cord clamping, skin to skin, etc. I guess I'll be asking my Dr at my next appointment. I suppose I did learn one thing, and only because someone asked, they no longer bathe babies there unless you're still there beyond 24 hours after birth.
@Taylor72 Do you hear it in your ear? I hear a rhythmic whooshing sounds in my ear (always left and usually at night or when it's quiet). It's actually the blood flow from the vessels in your neck! Pretty cool.
@LittleChick2 we just had our prenatal classes and hospital tour over the weekend (all day Saturday and Sunday). I'm sorry yours were so unhelpful. Ours was great, we all asked questions and they answered everything about what the hospital policies are regarding skin-to-skin and delayed cord clamping and what supplies they provide.

@doozenberg We have our birthing classes in a couple weeks so I'm hoping they'll mention some of the information there. I really should've asked questions, but I didn't feel comfortable with such a large group and we were already running behind schedule. I wish they had a handout or something that had FAQs.
@LittleChick2 most of my questions were answered at my childbirth class as far as policies and skin to skin and cord clamping and such. But the tour did mention supplies provided. I'm sorry yours wasn't very thorough.
@littlechick2 Mine was just okay. We took a labor & delivery class at our hospital but it was taught by a nurse from a private nursing company (who is a L&D nurse at another hospital). We got to see the L&D floor but weren't really told anything about supplies. I'm going to ask my doctor, probably at my 37 week appointment.
DD #1: April 2017 DD #2: May 2020 Baby #3: EDD May 2023; MC October 2022
I'm not convinced the OB would really know about supplies. They are literally just in there for the delivery normally, not really even during labor and the only time you see them post-partum (where supplies would be) is to check you which takes like 3-5 min the day after birth. As far as skin-to-skin and cord clamping that is stuff you can include in a birth plan.
@LittleChick2@catem07 Agreed with @MWoodside - call the hospital and ask re: supplies. They are probably a better source of information on that particular topic. Our hospital tour didn't include information on supplies either (although the nurses were available at the end to answer questions), but it was covered in a later class we took.
I've called the hospital a couple of times about scheduling classes and they have been really helpful and nice. I bet you could call and ask about supplies, and I would ask your doc about the cord clamping question.
Sometimes this baby feels like she's stabbing or scratching me from the inside. I mean sometimes in the cervix but usually in this one spot on my left side. It's really quite painful and feels like a tiny little knife. Is that normal? Her movements everywhere else are larger and bonier or pokier. And if so, why do you reckon it's in one spot only?
@HGRich - it's probably baby just trying to claw its way out. KIDDING. I've had similar pains (I think) and I assumed they were muscle spasms from being stretched too tight in one place. Does it feel like a sharp tugging? That's what mine feel like anyway.
@magheeta yes I've wondered if I'm pregnant with Edward Scissorhands. Goodness! Yes I guess so. Hard to describe. There's definitely movement all around before she does it so I wondered it just a sharp little bone poking pretty hard. But I did wonder if it's the uterus itself being pinched or spasming. I'm not worried about anything, it's just so sharp!
@HGRich from what you're saying I think I've had that same feeling during both pregnancies. It kind of stops me in my tracks for a second. They told me it was completely normal when I asked but didn't give much of an explanation for it. So my response might be the opposite of helpful. I think I just assumed it was the baby moving or stretching out over a more sensitive area.
