As I put in the announcement thread, we welcomed our Atticus 3 weeks early, yesterday afternoon. He had some fluid on his lungs, and the doctor was concerned about one spot that looked like it could be pneumonia, but his labs were all normal.
Fast forward to tonight, he was better in some ways today (grunting), worse in others (destating), so they ordered more labs and then another chest x-ray. The haziness from the fluid had cleared up on the x-ray (yay!), But also led to being able to see the pneumonia clearly. We can't be positive how he contracted it, though the pediatrician thinks maybe he aspirated as he was being born.
He's starting a 7 day course of antibiotics, which means I'll get discharged before he will. I was able to hold him a short time today, but being messed with speeds up his breathing j lowers his pulseox. After seven days they have to do a spinal tap on our poor dude to make sure he doesn't have meningitis. And there are a few scenarios (needing a picc line, running out of IV spots, etc) that would send us into the city.
It feels like today has really been 5 days rolled into one. I'm not a huge breakdown crier, but I had a moment today. I mostly needed to vent, but any spare "work, antibiotics!" Juju would be much appreciated.

Thinking of you!!!!
My DD had to spend a few days in NICU after she was born due to suspected infection, but she didn't end up having anything. It was traumatic at the time, but try to keep focusing on the big pic- you'll all be home with your whole little family sooner than later.
Keeping little buddy in my T&P and also sending you and husband mental strength.
The are going to do the LP tomorrow. My dad was here when the pedi came in and he asked if it was necessary, she said it's part of their routine tests for the infection, checking the WBC to make sure he only needs 7 days of antibiotics.

Fortunately, the initial results came back quickly, and then the expanded results, and they all looked good - no meningitis! The doctor said the WBC ratio was minuscule and everything else looked good. So just four more days of antibiotics, and as long as he can hold his own with everything else we'll get to go home this weekend. *fingers crossed*
