@ShakeUpTampa I'm totally with you on not registering for outrageously expensive stuff. When we were registering for our wedding, we tried to think about how much money people would actually be likely to spend on us versus what was the absolute nicest or most expensive stuff in the store. It surprises me that more people don't do that.
@soprano19 I used my baby registry more as my own to-do list and put everything I'd want for the first couple of years on it, expensive or not, because I did it on Amazon and I got a discount for what I purchased off of it. It also helped me clarify what I needed for the baby, since it was our first, and we had nothing. I had a few family members buy some big ticket items (my MIL bought the baby swing, my godmother purchased the high chair, my dad made the crib from scratch) but I don't think there's anything inherently wrong about putting big ticket items on the registry. The trick is a variety in price points, so no one feels like a tool for not wanting to spend a lot, but might still want to get something off your registry.
@theglitteredpterodactyl agreed. I think expensive items are fine as long as there is a good mixture of price points. For baby I too put everything on our Amazon registry. I mean you never know what you'll get. We had a huge and expensive pots and pan set on our wedding registry. I was so shocked and stunned when a great uncle bought that for us.
@theglitteredpterodactyl@mrs_fogue definitely on the idea of different price points. I know for us it's pretty likely that our parents (and maybe my grandparents) will purchase some of the big stuff, like a crib/other furniture, strollers, etc., and I'm hoping we might get some of those things handed down from our older siblings and cousins whose babies are a little bit older than ours and have outgrown newborn stuff. Most of our registry will probably be the smaller items like crib sheets, changing pads, bath stuff, etc.
I've had 4 people ask me to look over their registries to find missing things and when I told them certain items they were mind blown they did not think of them lol. My one friend has a four month old and still is texting me often for guidance which I love but we had to find a solution to the new problem and thankfully I test a lot of products out and her daughter is going to be much more comfortable soon once she get a Noggle in her car! In Florida....the heat is no joke. Babies are NOT happy with sweat soaked heads.
I think people get overly excited and register for things they like or think are cute not things they NEED. Lord knows in week one I ran to Target for a nipple shield. LoL A friend who got married right after me had an 9pg registry and had TONS of curtains on there, ummmm problem was they were moving and didn't have a house to rent yet. How do you know lengths and widths of windows lol
