@MrsBinPA Stay positive! My lo has flipped breech and back to head down since the last time I checked in!!! She last flipped at 36w2d! And my doula was telling me she's had clients babies flip after 38. Stay hydrated to keep up your fluids!
Thanks @nursemama he is indeed breach still, they told me today they will schedule me for a C-section at 39 weeks if he doesn't flip by 36. They said I could try ECV, but they would do it at the hospital and if it was unsuccessful I would go into the OR. The midwife today gave me some poses to try, and some ideas like acupuncture that she said she has seem to be successful. I will try anything.
I've been MIA for a bit as I've fallen off the boards due to prepping for this baby, but today we made a pretty big decision that I need to share. At 37+4 currently, our little guy has been frank breech for a couple of months at least. He did start head down and stayed that way till at least 20 weeks before he decided to turn after that. We found out for sure he was breech at 32 weeks and since then all my energy has been focused on getting him turned because I have been dead set on a vaginal and drug free childbirth. Between chiropractor, acupuncture, walking, and all the exercises... I spend like 40% of my day working on turning this babe. The hospital will not let me deliver vaginally if he doesn't turn and I can't have an epidural so I would have to be under general anesthesia for a section (which I'm obviously not comfortable with.) It is after much deliberation that we have chosen to proceed with a home birth. I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit scared, but I have more fears associated with delivering or having the cesarean in the hospital. I can say that I've been really stressed knowing this baby is breech. However, after meeting with the midwife today about the home birth, I felt almost immediately relieved. Right now, that's enough for me to know this is the right decision for us. I wish you all the best of luck on your deliveries! No matter how these babies decide to come into the world, I wish safe arrivals for everyone.
@DizzyMom best of luck with your home birth, I'm sorry to hear all your efforts to turn baby didn't work but I hope your experience at home is everything you want it to be!
@Cbeanz the hospital won't let me deliver breech any way but c-section. I'm not positive what position he's in (he was just regular breech last time we saw him on the u/s) but I will find out at my next appt in 2 weeks since I'll get another u/s then.
@jenny0228 would they let you wait another week before a section if your ECV isn't successful?
@DizzyMom I'm glad you've found a solution you're happy with! After stress, relief is probably telling you you're following your heart with this
We're still breech too. Were told this week to decide on a section at 39 or ECV at 38, and the doctor said she doesn't think there's much of a chance the ECV will be successful. We're scheduling an ECV but I'm going into kitchen sink mode. Trying a chiropractor, and considering acupuncture and moxibustion... TBH I'm not sure how much faith I have in them vs. I just want to feel like I'm doing something. We've been doing spinning babies postures and stretches for months at this point.
I also want to say that before we decided to switch to a home birth I did talk to my Midwife and OB at the hospital about going into labor naturally and proceeding with the c section. It just didn't feel right to me to schedule one outside of an emergency. We are still holding out hope that this baby will turn. Lots of babies turn at the last minute, in labor even, or some after 40 weeks. I was determined to give this guy his best chance at coming into the world naturally. I think you have to do what feels right for you. They can't force you to schedule a c section if you don't want to. I know a lot of women who have been strong armed or their OB's use scare tactics to make them feel like it's a necessity. I say go with your gut. If you feel more comfortable having a c section, I say go for it! If there's one thing I've learned being pregnant, we are our own best advocates.
@dizzymom you have such a great perspective on all of this - I hope baby does turn for you but if not, it sounds like you are prepared!
My mom told me yesterday that she was scheduled for a c-section with me, and she was in a dept store only a few days before I was born, and she felt me turn around at 39 weeks. She said she had to hold onto the clothes racks because the feeling was so intense! I am taking that to heart and hoping my little guy decides to flip a little earlier than 39 weeks, but it's interesting to hear that as a baby I was also breech right up until the end.
@NurseMama I'm sorry that your ECV failed! It's awesome your birth place will support breech delivery!
@DizzyMom As @jenny0228 said you have such a great perspective on making this decision! I have definitely heard of babies flipping late in the game. You said you've been doing all of the exercises does that include the 3 sisters? (Side lying, inversion etc)
How far along are you now?
It's awesome you've found a midwife to deliver breech. That was a deciding factor when selecting my midwife since mine was still breech.
I just got all prepped for our home birth! I think there is only one other mama having one in this group. Lmk if you have any questions about prep. I've put a ton of information together for my cousin who's having a home birth too in a few months and I'd be happy to share :-)
As of today I'm going to try the 3 sisters. I'm also adding meditation and visualization to the list of things I will do (I became very practiced at this while I was undergoing IVF) and I am going to make an appt for acupuncture as well. Fingers crossed for everyone that all these babies realizing that diving headfirst into this world is the way to go!
Continue to be impressed by the homebirth ladies, @DizzyMom and @vino831!
We're 38+1 today! I am doing every exercise except for the side lying release since the chiropractor does something similar that works the pelvis the same way. We're so close so this will probably be my last week going to chiro and pushing so hard for him to turn. I've come to terms with the fact that this may just be how he wants to come into the world. Maybe this is just the safest way for him. Not to say he can't turn, because it does happen! I am prepared though, mind and body, if he doesn't. We are very fortunate to have built a strong birth team and plan so late in the game. Both our Midwife and Birth Assistant have extensive training and successful experience with breech deliveries so we feel we're in good hands. This week I'll be working on turning our bedroom into my safe haven and adding some photos of how much my body has changed (so I can visually see what it's capable of and how strong it's been,) as well as some positive birth affirmations. Every day, I seem to have a "HOLY CRAP" moment, where I realize it can happen anytime now. LOL
jenny0228 my doula says that the best success that she has seen is with those inversions (and I'm pretty confident that's what worked for my lady. Esp doing them from a higher place (ie bed with hubs assistance) with that butt in the air holding for a minute (or as long as you can but I'm preeeeety sure you're stronger than me!!! :-) ) and doing it 3 times - daily (is what I was doing)
If for some reason you can't do them from a higher place even doing them on the floor or from the couch. Sorry I'm rambling I'm sure you've read all about it. FX mama!!!
DizzyMom reading what you wrote made me so excited for you!! So awesome you have so much confidence in your birth team! I love the idea of progression photos! You just gave me an idea to get a photo printed - right after DS was born. Man... last time I went through labor thinking the whole time "I can't do this" and being told by everyone "you already are!!" I think a photo of my son will be a reminder that I KNOW I can do this!!
And I know what you mean about the holy crap feelings! I can't stay away from thr store! I keep thinking about new things - wanting to make sure there are enough snacka/coffee/tea for the birth team... the mental list goes on and on
Thanks @vino831 - helps to know what you did, I've read everywhere from 30 seconds to 2 mins, and from 1x-3x daily. Definitely encouraging that you had success with it! I'll try 1min/3x a day to start and see how that feels!
35 weeks and breech. Been trying the inversions for the last few days but I don't feel like I can get my hips high enough (and our bed is too high). I've resorted to yoga handstands against the wall and hold them as long as I can. My next appt is a week from today so we will see what they say. My next step if I can't get him to turn this week is to add chiro and acupuncture. I never had this issue with my first, so I'm a little worried about it...
ECV was moved from next week to tomorrow- which is day 1 of week 38. Kind of having all the emotions and not processing any of them. trying to focus on being relaxed and hopeful.
@NurseMama Congratulations.. what a feat!! My baby isn't breech but I'm going to channel you when I am delivering this baby!
For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him. 1 Samuel 1:27 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Good luck @sunshine507, I hope your ECV goes well!!
Congratulations @NurseMama! So exciting! I'm so glad to hear you had a successful delivery. I hope you and baby are doing well and getting lots of rest.
@peasoup13 my OB this week said she would recommend acupuncture over any of the other stuff. I haven't decided if I am going to persue it or not.
Still breech this week at my 35w appointment. Doc said if she is still footling next week that ECV is not really an option & that footlings are the least likely to turn, so there is that. They will do a quick US in the office to confirm & give me the info to call and schedule my CS. I'm pretty much at peace with it at this point. My journey here has been so long and emotional. However it has to go for me to get my rainbow and us both to be healthy is fine by me.
Re: Breech check in
I am headed in later this afternoon for an OB appt - and will see where my guy is. I truly can't tell anymore if he's up or down or sideways.
I hope your little guy is head down!
