Rants/Raves/Questions - RAVE: DS (14 months) and I flew to TX this past weekend, and it was a BREEZE! I was very worried - about checking his car seat, about managing bags + baby in the airport, about the actual flight - and everything went so smoothly. It was a huge relief, and I appreciate the help I got from friends on here with my questions!

@Kipperoo - I hate when people think they have a say when they don't - very annoying! Have you heard of/seen/purchased any Kickee Pants brand? I am currently OBSESSED with them (to the point where my husband may have to block me from our bank accounts!). They have sweet gowns and hats, footies, and side snap shirt sets that would be so cute as going home outfits. You won't BELIEVE how soft the fabric is, and they have plenty of non-pink options!
  • @emilyalso, I'm so glad to hear your flight went well!! DH is taking 2.5 yo son on a cross country flight alone on Thursday and it's making me SO NERVOUS for them. I just hate flying with children...and NO I hadn't seen that brand but now I want to buy many things, lol...

@Kipperoo - I joined a b/s/t group on FB, and I've been buying up clothes for BOTH genders since we don't know what we're having!  :#

ETA: They run pretty small, so keep that in mind if you decide on something.
  • @Kipperoo good luck tomorrow on your 3 hr glucose!!!

@lilylover27  sounds like you'll be busy in April that'll make time fly by! DH and I booked our OB tour for next week! We decided we needed a refresher since it's almost been 3 years ago.

@L1C4gal good luck next Monday! How fun to find out all together!!!

@emilyalso glad your flight with your son with smooth!!!

@mrsrep123 that'll be so fun to celebrate all together

    Rants/Raves/Questions
DH has been doing the prenatal yoga with me. It gets me to do it everyday and it's fun to do it together.

GTKY: What's your favorite Valentine's Day memory? A few years ago DH surprised me by booking one of those dinner cruises between Philly and New Jersey. Was so fun to eat drink and dance the night away.
  • Happy Tuesday everyone!

@Kipperoo @0408Bear @L1C4galgood luck on your glucose tests! And i'm sorry your MIL is still being a pill @Kipperoo. How much longer do you think it'll be before she can go home?

@emilyalso I'm glad your DS did so well with the flight! Did you have a good trip?

@lilylover27 I had deep fried pickles with dinner last night and they were amazing!!

    How far along? 27 weeks!

    How big is baby? lettuce

Appointments this week? Midwife tomorrow, and then OB and ultrasound on Thursday. I'll get the results from my glucose screen so I'm anxious about that.

Symptoms? Mostly the same, with the added fun of swollen ankles and hemorrhoids!

Cravings? anything deep fried. Today it's potato skins and chicken wings.

    Team pink/blue/green? blue

Rants/Raves/Questions Rant - I've been feeling pretty miserable the last few days but I think it's because I feel like I've doubled in size the last week. I went through this around 18 weeks so I know it'll pass once I get used to my body again, but right now it sucks. Rave - I picked up the photos for the nursery today and framed them and they look better than I imagined!

GTKY: What's your favorite Valentine's Day memory? It's actually with my BFF, not DH (DH and I don't do anything other than pizza on Valentine's Day). When we lived in the same city, my BFF and I would spend every Valentine's Day together, go out for dinner, order a few appies and then binge on desserts. I've never been in a relationship where V-Day was a big deal, so it was fun getting dressed up and celebrating our friendship instead.

  • Running late to the party again.

Good luck to all of you doing your glucose tests!

@L1C4gal  I love your story!!! That would make them even more special to me.

@SWE2 How sweet that he does it with you! Maybe I can convince DH to do it so that he can convince me to do it also.

@CherryBananas I feel the same way. I am really down about my size right now.

    How far along? 26 weeks

How big is baby? Kale or pack of oreos

Appointments this week? Nope, but the window of time for me to take my glucose test is open. I have to go before the 27th.

Symptoms? Feeling like a tired whale. I can see and feel the weight gain in my face, arms, and legs and it has me feeling down. I need to make better choices, but the exhaustion has me caving for easy and comfort foods.

Cravings? Junk especially junk with sugar

    Team pink/blue/green? Blue

    Rants/Raves/Questions
    Rave:
DH got me a present for valentines day. I didn't expect it at all. It was popcorn, candy, and three Gene Wilder movie rentals. I love a gift that gets used up and I do not have to find a home in my house for it. We had just watched Start the Revolution without Me starring Gene and Donald Sutherland. Love him!
Rant: TLDR; After I waited for 1.5hr at the pharmacy, DH promptly dropped DS' Tamiflu when I got home.
Everyone close to me is super sick. MIL was hit last Tuesday, DH on Friday, my mom on Sunday, DS on Monday, and my dad on today. This bug is a doozie. I have never seen these people so ill. DS has never been sick before, so I was a bit overwhelmed yesterday when they said he had croup and tested positive for the flu and I was already tired from playing nurse for DH and my mom. After dropping DS off at home with DH I waited for 1.5hrs at the pharmacy to get prescriptions filled. Got home and gave DS his first dose of Tamiflu and DH promptly dropped the bottle. It did not break (but lost about 2/3), but I did. I burst into tears and yelling and was going to run away to hid in the bathroom until I could compose myself, but the commotion made DS get upset. So I picked him up and rocked him while we both cried. DH was mad because he said the top wasn't on tight and came off (probably wasn't), and I was mad because who picks up a glass bottle by the cap!?

GTKY: What's your favorite Valentine's Day memory? 7 years ago I traveled from Michigan to St Louis, MO to see my BF (DH) at grad school. We had been together for 3 years and he had moved for grad school the previous July.  I had an interview lined up for Thursday and got the job on Friday. Saturday was Mardi Gras (they have a large celebration and parade there) and Sunday I apartment hunted. Monday I signed a lease and flew home to quit my job and pack my apartment. I started my new job a week and a half later. He proposed in May and moved into my apartment in June. That Valentine's weekend set in motion a chain of events that I am so happy occurred.

  • @mrsrep123 I don't really know specific poses but I find the videos that only do stretching help loosen them up. I'm not into the difficult poses just the relaxing stretching.

@Louise_Belcher Cute story! Any recommendations on what to do and where in St. Louis? We are heading there Friday for our babymoon. Heard the food was amazing!

DH and I have been going back and forth on a middle name ( kept telling him to give me other options) and a few weeks ago he told me how important the one was for him. So I bought one of those milestone blankets off Etsy with her name on it and surprised him with it yesterday. He was so surprised and touched. Was a heartwarming moment. I'm happy we have a name figured out, one more thing checked off
  • @Louise_Belcher I hope everyone gets better quickly!  That stinks that your son's medicine was dropped, especially after having that long of a wait to get it!! I probably would have reacted in the same way that you did. Something about having your kid sick puts you in high stress reactionary mode.
  • @SWE2 Your blanket story just made me tear up. So sweet! I adore St. Louis and had a wonderful time while we lived there. What kinds of things do you like to do or eat? Some of the Soulard Mardi Gras festivities begin this weekend. The dog parade and wiener dog race are both happening at some point. Or just visiting Soulard is a fun thing to do, there are plenty of restaurants. There have a fantastic zoo (and it's free) and within the same park (Forest Park) there are both the History and Art museums. The Botanical Garden is extremely beautiful! I think I got an email that their Orchid show is happening right now. Of course there is also the Brewery which if you haven't went is worth the tour. I have been up in the Arch twice I think. It is an experience, but I don't need to do it again. The little pod that takes you up is so tiny. There is also a place called City Museum. It very well could be my favorite thing about the city. It is very unique, as if Tim Burton built a museum/play place in an abandoned warehouse out of trash he found from demolition sites, but it usually has a tremendous amount of kids and may be hard to fully enjoy pregnant. Once my kids are old enough we will be making a special trip to go there. Hope you enjoy your trip!

Thanks @Squirtgun It is really hard to see him sick. I felt like such a jerk leaving him home with my MIL today. I hate this.

Did not mean to quote this whole thing (mobile fail), but the blanket story is so sweet! I've been thinking about doing a name blanket from Etsy, but people just keep giving us blankets, so I'm a little worried we will end up with too many...hmm...

  • @Louise_Belcher thanks I will check some of these out. Unfortunately they are doing work on the arch so it will be closed.

@Kipperoo a lot of people do blocks or stickers for milestones and I chose this instead. Here's a picture of the one I bought.
  • @Kipperoo I really love baby blankets. We have a TON of them. I sew, so each kid gets their own quilt, plus a couple of simple blankets, and a couple of "play mat" type blankets. This is on top of what we have bought/ what people have bought for us!  But I wouldn't really say we have too many- we use them for everything! Smaller ones for a short cover while burping baby. Pretty ones to put on the boppy so if there's an accident you don't have to wrangle the boppy out of its cover. Soft ones in the car seat and stroller, in case it gets chilly. When teething happens, blankets to chew on when out and about (can tuck into baby carrier or stroller). When outside, put down for baby to lie/ sit on. Tummy time mats, play areas, snuggling for reading books.  Now older daughter gets blankets and wraps one around herself and one around dolly to look at books.  What I'm saying (and taking way too long to say!) is that you should totally get the blanket!
  • @Squirtgun, you are a really good sales person, lol...I think you are right, though. Never too many blankets! These days, my son only uses the quilt we had made out of his baby clothes, but when he was a baby, we totally used blankets for all of the things you mentioned and I think I just blanked it from my mind.
