Re: Interesting Article and Discussion Thread

  • @kerils that all makes sense to me. I had the best luck when I stopped trying to interfere so much with what the baby was doing, and just let him do his thing. I did this using the "lean back" position found in The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. It's not in this article, but very common advice is to try to make a "sandwich" for the baby to nurse (punch above/below your nipple, and insert in baby's mouth). For me, that didn't work AT ALL and my lactation consultant/midwife told me to stop that...and it got better from there.

  • Just read this article about a study showing baby's sex has an effect on maternal inflammation.  We are more likely to get sick while carrying girls vs. boys.

This is what makes me think it's a girl, that and the few pimples I've had, which I am usually clear along with the MS. I NEVER got sick with DS. Never.

I've been sooooo much more sick this time.  It's funny - up until last week, I was saying "he" in reference to this LO, and I completely understood that all of the differences made people think it would be a girl. By this info, it really should be a girl.  Nevertheless, I was convinced it was a boy.

Then, last week, when I felt the baby move the first time, my mind immediately said, "Oh, she's moving!"  Caught me off-guard.  Now I'm thinking I'll be surprised if it's boy.  Who knows...it's all guesswork until the 28th.  I hope I have a cooperative LO during the AS!
  • I never got ms with either pregnancies, both girls. Likely genetic: my mother never got ms either, and she had one of each.

That is pretty interesting. Obviously there are always exceptions so I wouldn't go run to buy pink lol but interesting nonetheless.
2 girl pregnancies for me so far. With my first daughter, I had some MS but threw up a handful of times, it was never too bad--the food aversions are what get me every time. I never had a cold or any other illness during my first pregnancy.

This time around the food aversions got me again, but I never had any vomiting, and I've gotten one short lived cold passed on from my toddler. Hopefully that's the end of it with sickness.

ETA: my mom had 7 kids and never had any morning sickness at all. 5 girls and 2 boys.

  • @kerils I read something similar about height at one point (I actually think it was a blurb on TB app) and it freaked me out. Not only am I only 5' with the shortest part of me being my torso, but I am also carrying twins. My sole focus during this pregnancy is to do everything within my control to make this gestation go as long as possible. Also, I don't mean to say you freaked me out by posting it bc I was already concerned. Time will tell I guess!!

Idk, I think it is a load of crap and depends on how well your cervix holds up. I am like 4' 10" over here and went two weeks over. I know plenty of petite mamas that went over. If the uterus can't expand up, then it will go out.
  • I knew myself it was a boy but all my symptoms were towards a girl, acne (usually very clear skin) cravings etc too

my sister is shorter than most and she always goes over by two weeks
