Who's formula feeding?

Re: Who's formula feeding?

  • You can always donate them to a food pantry. That's what I'm doing with all the unopened foula we tried
  • Loading the player...
  • I currently use Enfamil Newborn for some convenience feedings. The can says 0-3 months but I have 2 unopened cans so he would probably be 5ish months before I got through it all. Anyone think that is a problem? I can always pass them along through a local fb page just hate to not use it but I don't want a big nutrient change to affect him.
  • If it's similac advanced I will take it..but agree with @m6agua might be easier to give away to someone closer

Also..how many bottles a day do each of your little ones get?  We are doing 5 during the day (one overnight except on the rare nights he sleeps until 6am or later)  We tried 4 for like 2 days..he did fine with it but I kind of felt like he was too little to have only 4 big bottles a day and it was really hard to fit into our schedule based on when he would need to eat and when we need to pick my older one up from school.  Wondering if going to four bigger bottles might help him go longer overnight or not..At this age with my older son he was still having 5 bottles a day but was sleeping longer at night than this one..I know no two kids are the same but the book 12 hours by 12 weeks recommends 4 bottles at this point.
  • My little girls gets 6 to 7 bottles (night included) She has about 3 hours between feeding and 4 to 5 at night. During the day we have a moment where she wants one after 2 hours. Mostly it's in the evening, but sometimes happens early morning. She gets offered between 5-6oz, but doesn't always finish her bottle just yet.

@SandsNStarsNJ You can also see about donating to a local shelter or agency. I work for a nonprofit that has a parents as teachers program and they always appreciate donations of formula.
  •  For those who use nursery water to mix the formula, are you refrigerating the water or leaving it out to be room temperature?  With DD1,  I remember leaving the jug of water on the counter and I never warmed her bottles.  However, for some reason, I read the label of the jug this time and it says to refrigerate after opening.  I'm tempted to still leave it on the counter since that's much more convenient. I'm just curious as to what everyone else does...
  • @hjmommaplus1 I leave it on the counter
  • @hjmommaplus1 I am not using nursery water, just bottled water but we just leave it out and don't warm the bottles or anything.  with ODS we used our brita filter and just left that on the counter too so it was always room temperature
  • @m6agua I have a can of gentleease. If you message me your address I'll send it. I don't mind sending to someone I "know" that can use it.

The other cans are Similac - there are a variety. I never thought to donate them. Good thinking!

  • @sandnstarsNJ Thanks but maybe just donate it somewhere local to you. We have been trying out different formulas lately. The Enfamil Gentalese was working kind of, but now I found that the Enfamil Infant works way better with her digestive system. She is 12 weeks now and it took this long to find one that doesn't constipate her to some extent!

  • I feel duped by Enfamil. We've been using Enfamil Newborn since that was what they had in the hospital and I got a couple sample cans of it. It says 0-3 months on it so I gave away a big unopened sample can because I knew I wouldn't get to it while he was under 3 months. I just compared the ingredients on Newborn vs Infant and newborn has more Vit D and I think Infant has 0.1 more protein and those are the only differences.  wtf? Now I wish I had that can back because I would keep using it past 3 months for sure

Yeah you can use any formula really, the names are just names. I got some Similac Supplementing for free and I am using it even though she is EFF. They all are pretty similar.

  • They use different names to try to get more people with different circumstances to buy it but overall they are pretty much the same. It's all marketing for them
  • I have a few Similac $5 checks. Anyone want them?
  • I'd love them..should I pm you my address?

  • So we have been on nutrimagen for a couple weeks now and LO has been doing great. The last couple days his poops have gotten less playdough like and more like how they were before the switch. How do the poops change when they eat the same thing every day
  • I asked my ped this also because a few weeks ago LO's poops were all over the place..more like breastfed, more like formula fed, a combination etc...She just said good question..no real answer but it can happen..At one point I wondered if he had a mini stomach bug but who knows..I don't think there is a good explanations as to why their poops change when eating the same thing but it's normal and not concerning for it to happen unless weird things start showing up like blood or signs of constipation or constant diaherria
  • I've been told it can change as their digestion is still developing. So somedays it works better/different then other days.

    As long as changes don't go hand in hand with the following it's pretty normal;
    Not wanting to eat
    Vomitting
    Blood in stool
    Loosung weight.
As well as if they have diarreah:
They tend to hardly pee and might have drowsiness

But should your mum instincts say something is up, get it checked out.
