  • I hate scented stuff. Candles, potpourri, scented laundry detergent, etc.  I buy the free and clear detergent. I hate when I go to someone's house and they have candles lit because they are trying to mask smells.  It's disgusting. I went into bath and body Works the other day to get sugar scrub (mildest smell I could find was lavender and vanilla) and the smell made me sick.
  • @Nxy 100% agree. Also, if you, the parent are sick and need to be with the child for the activity, stay home too!  We are dealing with sickness right now and all of us got it so this hits home.

  • My UO is that I'm already tired of having to stand up for choices my husband and I have made in regards to the baby. I know I have a lot longer to go in my pregnancy, but I wish people would knock off the comments about finding out the sex and becoming a SAHM. Can't I just show off ultrasound pics?!
  • Also, I don't like Tom Brady.
Where I'm from this is a pretty popular opinion.

  • @megaroo42,

Currently dealing with the, "but why won't you tell us the gender when you find out?  It's unfair to us."

Um....no!  It is only unfair to my husband if I tell you, since he doesn't want to know.

I'm currently a SAHM, so at least I don't get that.

  • @Southernmama15 ME TOO. Even walking by a Yankee Candle store gives me a headache. Can you imagine working 8 hours in one of those places?? Some of the scents are ridiculous too... "Autumn in the park" - come on...

  • @secicc12 OMG, yes! And it's so expensive. I just don't get it. Someone gave my FIL a Duck Dynasty one for Christmas called duck fart and it smelled like cedar trees or something. It gave me the worst migraine.  So sad that people think that sort of thing is clever.
  • @bumpybump one of our outings recently involved a mom who brought her toddler with pink eye to play group..

Omg!  I would go nuts.  I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut when people bring their kids to playdates that have non-stop runny noses and seal like coughing.  Sure, your kid may not have a fever, but I don't want my kid to be miserable for a month because of it.

The last time this happened at a group playdate I made up an excuse and left since half the group ended up RSV afterwards.

  • @Nyx there was a mom at story time yesterday coughing all over the Lego table that my DD was playing at (so was her DD). Made me so mad I had to say something to her.
  • @Nxy what kind of contagious are you talking about?  Pink eye, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, fresh cold, etc. I totally get.

I guess my UO is that if my kids have a cold, we still go places.  DD2 basically had a cold her entire second year and we would not have gone ANYWHERE for months if I kept her home when one or both of them had a cold.  I was definitely way more likely to stay home when DD1 had a cold.

I agree with this. Fever, vomited within 24 hours, etc...stay home. I don't think it is realistic for people to become shut ins if you have a kid with a persistent runny nose that lasts weeks. Of course it's courteous to follow said runny nosed kid around with a kleenex and wipe the boogers away, and even 2 year olds can be taught to cough in to an elbow.

  • A runny nose isn't something I'd be very concerned with. An old cold sometimes lingers and I get that, not an issue. A fresh hacking coughing cold isn't ok. It's beyond rude and selfish to bring your sick kid to a group of 20 other kids knowing they are likely to spread their sickness to the other kids.

  • I work at a school. I don't get the luxury or being picky about gross, sick kids. I just bathe in hand sanitizer and hope for the best.

  • My UO for the week is that the idea of formula feeding my baby freaks me out since I read too many nutritional labels that start with corn syrup. I'm already researching safe ways to buy breast milk in case I can't breast feed/pump myself. I know that avfed baby is a happy baby and I respect everyone's choices or circumstances. Unfortunately, for me, there's nothing that affects my body more negatively than added sugars, and corn sugar above all.
  • I don't like dill pickles unless they're deep fried.

  • @SouthernMama15  DH did a research paper on indoor air pollution and hasn't let me burn scented candles since.  I was never that into them so it was not a big deal for me.   And after years of not burning them I can't really stand the smell anymore,

  • @SpotConlon that's why I didn't include school aged kids because that's just a crap shoot especially for teachers. We donated to a school supply drive (I think that's what it's called) this year and I donated like 5 of those 2 liter sized hand sanitizers and DH was just laughing at me but the moms knew.

  • @shyviolet101 can you send that paper to my husband's entire extended family?
  • @SouthernMama15 My number one priority will be to have a well fed baby, even if that means to formula feed. Although I'm freaking out I'll not feel guilty if that's what I have to do. I will definitely research formulas without corn syrup. I wish I had a friend that could feed my baby in case I couldn't and vice versa. I would only buy milk from a milk bank that tests all milk donated but, as far as I could find, it seems like my local milk banks are only available for babies still in the hospital.
  • @LivLew Look into some certified organic formulas do some good research.
I know milk banks do testing for like.. drugs but do they do nutritional screening?

The banks only screen for diseases and harmful substances. I'm checking out some formulas without corn syrup just in case. I found plum organics and some German brand. Thanks for the feedback!
  • Milk banks will actually look at the calories per ounce. One of my friends donated to the milk bank and her milk was 26kcal/oz. similac advance is 19kcal/oz. breast milk has what baby needs to grow and changes in composition as baby gets older. I am a big breastfeeding supporter - but it is hard, it is not for everyone and sometimes it is just too much work depending on what else is going on in your life. Fed is best, and happy mom is happy baby.
  • @nimmunogirl I just had no idea they screened for calories that's pretty awesome! I agree breastfeeding is best when it's best for everyone involved. I EBF'd my DD and what I usually tell people when asked is that even when breastfeeding is easy, it's still HARD. I definitely plan on trying to pump more this go around or supplement a little because only looking back do I see how hard the first or so of her life was on me and our family.

@LivLew is the German brand something you'd buy locally or be importing?

  • @bumpybump OMG, me too! I mean memories are great, but you can definitely do affordable things without getting in ridiculous debt.
  • @southernmama15  Haha.  It was so long ago I doubt we have it any more.  I didn't care that much about candles so I never even read and I don't know what the data showed.

@LivLew  I never produced enough and ended up having to supplement.  I hadn't done any research on formula because I planned to breast feed.  I ended up going with Gerber because when I was in panic mode buying it at the store it was the only one who's first ingredient wasn't some sort of sugar.  Even when I looked at some of the more natural ones that was still the case.  Good job on being prepared and knowing your options unlike me.

@dmbfan46835 I wouldn't consider that an UO. At least I hope not.

@Nxy the brand is called Holle and it has an US seller (babykindmarket.com).
  • @LivLew Honest company's formula has "organic glucose syrup solids" instead of HFCS. I don't know enough about what glucose syrup is or if it's better than HFCS, but maybe something to look into! (And it's not the first ingredient---milk is lol)
  • @LivLew that was one of the ones I was going to recommend if you planned on buying and shipping it to the states. HiPP is also an awesome brand.

  • I think the Bump boards have too many rules and guidelines.
