What is on your shopping list for next kiddo?

Mostly for 2nd+ time parents, I am working a few feature articles in the realm of pregnancy and baby showers for my website and wondering what purchases you are adding to your list. I saved most of my big stuff and have new car seats already along with strollers so my list this time was only three large items-

Mamaroo (Just scored at 30% off at Target)
Finding Nemo jumper (My son's room is all painted as ocean and cloud mural and we have most nemo items, even if gender is a girl we would just incorporate The Little Mermaid.
A REAL cozy chair for nursing. I hated the glider ottoman set and sold that off, and the recliner in our room is going to be trashed with living room sofa.

The other items I either still have or are easy to buy at resale shops.

What is on your list? I did learn one big lesson , I want a cheaper high chair this time around, I LOATHED the pricy Graco one we had, it was a nightmare to clean and took up way too much space.

  • We need a dresser/changing table (DS's was hand-made for him and doubles as a dresser), I want a glider (the chair I used with DS was comfy but just not well-suited for nursing), and I want an extra base for our infant car seat. Other than that it's just little things.

Yea, I mean if a girl , will get clothes but I love shopping so that would be easy. I may also cave and get the round small crib if a girl and sell off my big one that my son NEVER slept in. I had extra bases last time but now we are one car family not two and I just keep an extra car seat in garage for if there is a family emergency and anyone else has to get my kid from school (so I'll have 2 infant and I already have the 2 convertible)

  • A second camera for our video monitor. New crib mattress. New diaper bag. If it's a boy this time I'll get new crib sheets, but if not then I'll use what I have.

  • Ohhh forgot about that! Crib mattress lol, but I'll wait until after if I don't find out gender. Since I may go round, the old crib one is in my son's toddler bed..that he also has never slept in  :D Hoping to transition him soon because I kick when pregnant lol. Good call on camera extensions too!

  • Following! I am needing new bottles, a rock n play & possibly clothes if it's a boy! We have an almost 3 year old girl. Luckily we got gender neutral items for the big items.
  • I'm definitely getting a swing, a high chair, and a bottle warmer this time around.  With ds everyone told me they were unnecessary  :/ , and I ended up needing all of those items.
  • A new dresser (all other furniture will be passed down from DD), new diaper bag (more for mom than baby), a ring sling (I have a solly baby wrap and an ergo, both of which I love, but I'd like to have more options), new wash cloths/burp rags/etc. because the old ones got gross after a while, and new bottle nipples (haven't decided on new bottles yet, need to dig them out and see how they look). Obviously some new clothes, especially if it's a boy. Most of these things aren't necessities, but things that I'd like.

we didn't use a monitor with DD because we were in a small apartment at the time. I'm thinking we will also get a video monitor, which would also come in handy to keep an eye on DD when she graduates from her crib to a regular bed.

Good thread! I really need to start to think about this. We will be able to use a lot of the stuff from DD thankfully as it's mostly gender neutral. She currently has the kind of crib that eventually turns into a full size bed, but I imagine we will just use that for the new baby and buy her a twin/full bed. It doesn't make sense to buy ANOTHER crib when she is just using it as a toddler bed right now. Which is honestly a little tough for me to get my head around since we picked out this furniture (it has a matching dresser) FOR her and imagined her using it forever! Honestly, what will happen is she will get a new bed, and will inherit my old dressers and nightstand that are currently in our master bedroom. So mommy and daddy are getting new bedroom furniture! Does that count as a new baby purchase? lol I am justifying this because she is 2 and doesn't care. And I've had the same furniture since I was 10 :) (not even joking...DH is too tall to even look in the mirror on the dresser)

We will also need to get another camera for the video monitor. There's no way I'm taking that out of DD's room now as I love to spy on her and tell her to get back into bed when she tries to escape lol

Another sort-of related purchase is a sofa-bed. The new baby (or DD...haven't decided if she's going to move) will be taking over our guest room. We frequently have guests, so we still need another sleeping arrangement option. Luckily our playroom/office has doors (just no closet) so it's going to now be playroom/office/guest room. A sofa bed seems to be the best solution.

And obviously as others have said, new clothes if it's a boy.

I'll be following this closely as I'm sure I'm forgetting something...but I really can't think of much!

Edit: I also have to add this because it made me laugh. We recently cleaned out our garage, and put a TON of baby stuff in the attic thinking we won't need it any time soon...which I guess is true, we still have 9 months, but I'm not climbing up there later in pregnancy! (DH is too tall to easily maneuver around up there and up the ladder). Sigh.

  • If LO is a girl, I'll need more girl clothes and accessories.  If LO is a boy I might have to get more seasonally appropriate clothes since DS1 was a summer baby.

Second monitor.  Second breastpump, changed jobs so should be able to get a second through insurance.  So I can keep one at work and 1 at home.

Double stroller.  All the other big things should be able to be reused I think.

  • I'm goIng to get the halo bassinet. We used a pack and play bassinet the last 2 times and I don't love it. It's too big. Because of its large size I can't have it right next to the bed so I have to get up walking the couple steps to the wall to pick up and put down baby. I want a cosleeper that is really a cosleeper.

  • A new dresser (we will use it as a changing table as well)

Some sort of wrap carrier for (I'm thinking Baby K'tan). We have a Lillebaby carrier that we love, but I want to try a wrap for the tiny stages.

Just got a new Nose-Frida this past weekend. Dog chewed up the one we had with DD lol -- seriously y'all get one of these!

Probably a new nursing pillow. DDs was well loved, so it probably needs replacing.

If it's a boy, then new clothes lol. Really we will need new clothes anyway, because even though DD is a September baby, we lived in South Georgia when she was born and had warm winters lol. We live in New England now, so we will need warm clothes haha.

I'll also get an electric pump this time around, because our insurance covers them now! Yay! I breastfed DD, but I'm a SAHM, so I decided against paying out of pocket for an electric pump (they didn't cover them until shortly after her 1st birthday, go figure lol). We never really needed it, but it would be nice to have a bit of an emergency stash in the freezer. Also, a Haaka silicone pump (they suction to the breast you aren't nursing from and save the milk that would have leaked out and wasted!).

I JUST put more baby stuff in boxes to take to storage and then got bfp...so they are sitting here between two rooms as a barricade for dogs lol.

@keriflores absolutely love the Nose Frieda! It's one of my favorite gifts to give too!

  • I'm debating on a sit and stand stroller....My son loves to be in a stroller at zoo, theme parks, etc but he also has his wandering desires on legs lol. He will be almost 4 when LO arrives.

  • @ShakeUpTampa Yes, it's definitely on our go-to baby shower list! I was going to get my SIL one for our niece that's due to arrive in 2 weeks, but she acted like there was no way she would try it lol.
BabyFruit Ticker Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • @ShakeUpTampa This will be our 3rd and I can say the sit and stand is definitely worth it. Especially at that age. I had one that I'm so happy I traded my double for. I was constantly putting my oldest in and out of the seat and that got tiring. He always wanted to walk so it made it easy for him to just hop on and off by himself.

In my list this time is an Urbini baby travel system. I love the bassinet idea and wasn't able to get anything so nice for my other two. Also a must have is the rock and play, which is magic, and the Brezza formula pro. I couldn't produce enough milk with my first because of an emergency c section, got baby blues with my second trying to nurse and being in pain killers from my csection kept making him fall asleep. So I decided that this time I was going to just bottle feed and enjoy the newness and being a family of 5!
  • This is baby #2. We have a ton saved from baby #1, but we'll need a double stroller. I'm hoping to find a Britax B Agile secondhand so we can use our B-Safe car seat again!  We'll also need a new jumper and bouncer since we gave those away. We also need a new dresser and a toddler bed to move DD to.  Boy clothes if it's a boy.  Bottles, more breastfeeding supplies since I'll be pumping at work this time around.  :s
  • Conversion kit for stroller to use as double
Infant car seat kit for jogging stroller
Babywearing sling (I figure I'll wear this baby more especially when I'm alone with two)
If we have a girl we will need clothes
A much easier to wipe/clean highchair (one that doesn't need machine washing to be cleaned)

  • @keriflores we,love the NoseFrida too! We don't use it a lot cause DD FREAKS OUT when we do. It only woked when she was an infant and easier to control. But it really does work great. I would get oddly satisfied when I would get a lot out. Lol so gross!
  • If LO is a girl, then girl clothes. Otherwise, we have to decide if we are going to transition DS to a bed before LO arrives, or if he'll stay in his crib. If he stays in his crib then we need to get another crib. I'm hoping to avoid getting a second change table though. Fingers crossed we can potty train him this summer!

I definitely want to get a ring sling this time around. I have a Beco Gemini which I love but I don't think it'll work as well for the newborn stage. We got rid of our exersaucer (it was a hand me down that I hated) so hopefully we'll get a new one of those. I might gently suggest that to the grandparents if they offer to get something "bigger" for this LO.

We'll also probably need a double stroller or a sit-to-stand stroller. Need to talk to DH about that one though.
  • I haven't entirely thought this all through yet but we will need a dresser for the new babies room.  Other than that I think it will depend on if it's a girl this time.  We have all boy stuff.  Oh and I would love some kind of cosleeper this time.  I hated having to get in and out of bed especially those first few days when you are sore.

I have a feeling my list of items to buy will grow ...
  • We kept nearly everything but our swing and bouncer, they just took up way too much room.
We will need those items and the conversion kit for a double stroller and maybe the attachment board.  We had so much stuff we never needed or used that I'm hoping we can minimize the buying this time!

  • This is baby #3 for us in 5 years (by the time he/she is born)
We've kept all big items so we would just need a new car seat, clothes (if it's a boy), and a brand new diaper bag. I've made it this far with just one bag but it's in it's last stages and I totally deserve a new one :D
  • You all have talked me in to looking for a sit and stand of some nature, might see if a brand wants me to review one or if I should just go out and pick one at the store and cough up the dough. I'm not even sure what brand car seats I have wrapped in storage. I absolutely love our Graco City stroller for 3yo now, best by far out of tons I've tested minus the no cup holder being standard. I feel like I have to upgrade my Taga Bike child seating as it is only for one child.
    Nichole Tampa, FL
  • I don't need much since I still have everything from #1, they'll be 21 months apart. We'll def need a double stroller though and new dresser. Not sure what i'm going to do about the crib situation, new baby will be in our room for the first few months anyways.
  • double stroller
    crib
    crib mattress
    second camera for baby monitor
clothes if this baby is a girl
  • Our first is only 14 months, so we still have most things we'll need. We will buy the second seat for our city select stroller, and I may sell a bouncer we didn't like in favor of a mamaroo. I need a new nursing cover as well, because my DD has hijacked the one I used with her and now it's her lovey/blanket. I had one from Covered Goods and it was AMAZING, so I have no problem investing in another.
  • I'll get a sit and stand stroller, and I need a new monitor. We also got rid of our swing. We bought it second hand and it only ran on batteries. This time I want one that plugs in!  And, of course, if it's a girl, we'll need clothes.
  • My kids are so far past the baby stages that I am basically starting all over. I don't mind at all :) I do still have a few things though. Our glider is in storage , as well as some sentimental items. I need almost everything.  I did a sit n stand with my first two when my second was a baby. I don't need that this time. I'll be doing a Chicco combo stroller/ car seat. I'll also be doing a nicer pack n play. Graco makes much nicer ones now, I am eyeing one of those up or an ingenuity one. I love r convertible swings too. Side to side front to back and triples as a bouncer.

  • @mamafromthepnw those are cute!! I went to look up a brand I worked with awhile back and not seeing what I have so thank god I saved it. Cover My Heart had a cover that also backside has a pillow in shape of a heart so giving comfort to mom wherever she may lean. I looked at their website now but not seeing it, I still have mine though.

  • I'm hoping for another girl that way I wont have to buy too much in the way of clothes, sheets, decor, etc. If a boy, we'll have to get all that stuff. But what we're really looking into at the moment is a double stroller. We have a Yoyo and a Graco jogger that we will have to sell off to prep for our second.
  • As of right now the only two things on my list ( since our youngest is 3 1/2 ) is a rock n play and some kind of co sleeper. Then once we find out gender I will go buck wild and buy clothing lol
  • Question for you STM -- I see some of you have a double stroller listed.  Any of you wish you had splurged on one of the fancy ones that turns into a double stroller before baby #1? Or are they so expensive and a PITA that it's worth just upgrading when you need it?

To be honest, I never splurged after I coughed up for my jogger/travel set from Graco for #1. This is because Graco, Safety 1st, Chicco, Jeep, Eddie Bauer and a few others kept sending me strollers of different variations to test out and promote to my readers or on social media. Some I loved and have, some I hated and got rid of later. I am no expect in doubles though but may be once I reach out to my PR firms and let them know I'm expecting. There are so many amazing variations to be honest. I'm a dork but I would love a pram..no freaking need for it but they are gorgeous haha

@Tennis11785 , I have no regrets about buying my single stroller. I really loved ours. And I'm planning on keeping it. Once DS is a bit older and doesn't need the double stroller, I'lul put baby #2 in the single again. I don't know a lot about the fancy ones that convert from 1 baby to 2. But life is unpredictable and I didn't know when we'd have baby #2 so I planned for what I knew

Edited because I tagged the wrong person! Oops!
  • @Tennis11785 nope, and honestly I didn't even know those existed! lol I agree with @mommac2017...you don't know where life will take you and how soon/if you have another child. DD will be 3 when this baby is here so IF I buy another stroller, it will be a cheap sit and stand. Then after awhile I plan on just going back to the singer strollers (yes, I have 3 haha)

  • Mainly all the new stuff is going to DD's room to give her a big girl room.  We will repurpose all the nursery stuff for 2.0.

For round 2, I'm getting a Tula this time!  That's like my #1.  A Baby Brezza if BFing doesn't pan out again.  And a second video monitor.

@mrs_fogue  I like the Tula but omg, at least try a Lenny Lamb before you make final decision. I have 2 LilleBaby, a Tula, a sling, a few randoms, and a Lenny and I WISH my 3yo would let me wear him now in that Lenny!! It is reversible (print I got) and SOOOOOO soft and breaks in easy. The fabric is amazing. I base a lot of comfort off the the hips and shoulder because my left shoulder was messed up in an auto accident. I am torn on if I want another Lenny just to have options lol. I'm a chicken when it comes to wraps though...
