Re: Weekly Randoms 1/30

  • This is really random, and not TB related.  I had to go back to my Knot account to edit my username because there was a space in between Sugar and Rush and I wanted to be able to be tagged in posts.  Anyway, I hadn't been on TK in a super long time so I decided to go and look at the message boards and the monthly boards are DEAD.  Like, hardly any posts.  I feel like back in the day (we are talking like 2011) people went nuts on there making wedding inspiration boards, sharing ideas, etc.  and now its like a ghost town!  What happened that it tanked so hard?

  • @SugarRush  weird... I know a few years ago it was super busy. I always wonder what happens to make sites go under like that. I posted on a different baby/parenting site for years on the name related boards. (I've always been slightly name obsessed.) I tried to go back recently and the site is completely gone.. like, doesn't even exist. So weird.

  • I have a question.. I was told to call back when I wanted to schedule my 12 week appt and let them know if I wanted any genetic testing.
There are like 3 or 4 different blood tests including the Verifi that can do gender as well, but it doesn't test for sound bifida. I was told I specifically need the spina bifida test due to my medical history.

And then there's a NT scan? Is it blood OR a NT scan? Not both? I was told generally at the 12 week appt we just listen with at doppler for the HB.

I called and left a message for the nurses to call me back to explain what's needed, but it's taking a few hours.

  • @Sugargirl1019 with my first I did a NT scan and blood work.  NT scan to measure the fluid behind the neck to determine possibility of downs syndrome and then the blood work was for the chromosomal stuff (for lack of better word).  Not sure what test would be needed for spina bifida.  Back in 2013 they didnt really do genetic testing at the OB's office so I was at a geneticist's office and then I had my regular 12 weeks appt checkup, where I think I had an ultrasound.  Hope this helps!

  • I'm doing the cell free DNA test (blood test and scan done between 10-14w). It has the highest rate for being true (why can't I think of this word?!?) it only tests for trisomy 13, 18, 21 (down syn.) and the sex chromosome. TW- my last PG, my son had T13 and holoprocensaphaly which ended in loss, so I'm getting th testing again. I'll be getting that done at MFM. Dr said we can go from there as far as other testing. Not all ins covers it though, so def ask first bc I think it can be pricey!
  • There's a scan with the cell free DNA test? I'm confused haha. I will just schedule my 12 week appt and do blood work there.

Silly question... do I just .. call my insurance and ands if they cover this test? We have pretty good coverage from BCBS, so I'd expect them to..

  • @Sugargirl1019 I have Keystone HPE which goes by BC and the nurse said to call still. I was told if you're over a certain age (is it 35?) or you've had previous PG/child with chromosomal abnormalities then theylll cover, otherwise they might not find it medically necessary. I do medical billing so I would think you would need the diagnosis codes as well as the CPT/procedure codes but I could be wrong.

Also, my Dr said MFM does an ultrasound/scan along with bloodwork. It may vary from practice to practice
  • @BigBadWolf12 yes!  I already have the CUTEST maternity swim suit.  I cannot wait.   :D

  • If anyone is curious if the Verifi, Harmony, MaterniT21 or Panorama is covered by their insurance, most offices bill it as cpt 81507 or as 81479. You can call your insurance and ask of cpt code 81507 / 81479 is covered.

81507 is "fetal aneuploidy DNA sequence analysis for trisomy"
81479 is "unlisted molecular pathology procedure"

Couldn't take feeling like crap anymore from this cold so I took sudafed last night before bed. Fell asleep quickly but woke up about an hour and a half later to pee and could not go back to sleep...ALL NIGHT!! I might have fallen asleep around 330/4 but my first alarm goes off around 5. So I got maybe 3 hours of sleep last night...3!! Today I am dragging at work, don't know how I'm going to get through the day. Never again will I take that, at least not before bed.  :(

also, there is a stomach bug going around at my work. I'm seriously praying I don't catch it. I can't deal with pregnancy nausea, a cold and a stomach virus!
  • @jmn1985 omg, that's adorable. I was going to just do a water/sports bra, swim shorts, and maybe a big shirt over it if I'm feeling self conscious, but omg you're quickly convincing me that I need an adorable maternity suit :D

  • @Sugargirl1019 I'm curious what you decided to do for genetic screening? My doc spent about 30 mins or so explaining the different options. She was very thorough. We can do the nt scan and basic blood work at 12 weeks or we can do the cell free testing - the panorama. She actually prefers the panaroma for accuracy. We have excellent insurance but the test is not covered bc I don't meet any of the high risk qualifications. It's about 200 if I don't run it through my insurance and I just pay the cash price. We are currently scheduled for the scan and basic blood work but I can change my mind anytime before then and do the panorama. If I do, we won't have a scan at 12 weeks, just checking the hb via Doppler. The doc said if we plan to take no action due to the result of the screen then the nt should suffice but I would like to be prepared for any issues. I know most women under 35 don't have the cell free screening so I'm wondering if I'm just biting off more than I need.

  • @ChelleCPA are you high risk? Or just want it? We declined the testing both times because there have been many reports of false positives and we wouldn't terminate a pregnancy based on a genetic defect anyways. So for us, it's just a waste of money and a lot of potential unnecessary anxiety.
  • @jessieR358 I'm not high risk, no family risk and I'm under 35. The only reason we're even thinking about the cell free screening is because my doctor really likes that test for genetic screening. We won't terminate so it would just be for us to prepare if something were wrong. I do know a couple who's regular nt scan came back with a likelihood of down's and they declined an amino against the advice of her doctors bc she was afraid of the mc risk. Her little boy was born perfectly healthy. Already I'm wondering if I'm making the right decisions. I guess I should get use to this feeling.  :)

  • @ChelleCPA and stories like your friends are exactly why we declined it. I'm under 35 and healthy too. My dr doesn't push it at all.
  • I have a friend who also was told her baby would likely have downs and he doesn't.

@ChelleCPA I'm getting the cell free DNA testing. I'm not high risk, but I did have a previous PG where the baby had T13 so hopefully it'll be covered, if not I still want the test to know and be prepared. My H and I had genetic testing done and neither of us carry the extra half chromosome (I think that's what it was, fuzzy time in my life, I was a mess). So the chances of us having another baby with T13 is slim but I still want to know. My dr told me it was the most accurate, I believe the paperwork said 99%, of all of the testing. I've heard others say in the past that their test came back saying there's a possibility of Down syndrome and the baby was fine, but Im almost positive those women had the NT scan. The other tests are around low 90% for accuracy I believe. To each their own, just educate yourself on all of your options.

ETA I found the paperwork from my OB
    screeninfg tests accuracy:
    cell free DNA- 99% T13 T18 T23 (down syn) (false positive <1%)
sequential- 90% Down syndrome and T18 and 80% spina bifida (false positive 5%)
    quad/tetra- 81% Down syndrome, 80% T18 and spina bifida (false positive 5%)

I'm not sure if this should go in the randoms thread or the symptoms, but I am having (and usually do when pregnant) the grossest gas. I mean, like my husband gets grossed out. Something about growing that fetus just lets the stink flow!!

  • @ChelleCPA We haven't decided yet.. I never had my losses checked for chromosomal abnormality, so I don't know that I need it. But I DO need the spina bifida screening due to diabetes. But I don't want to do the blood work that includes it.. I'd like to get the gender too? And add on the spina bifida test separately (she said we can do that). Idk.. I'm still so unsure. DH expressed concern over finding out the sex in a voicemail, so I'm considering not doing it. Maybe I'll do just the basic blood work + spina bifida + NT scan. Wait for the anatomy scan for excitement.

Used a make up My Gym class this mornomg hoping to get DS to nap early. No luck. My first appointment at 3:45 (aka nap time) is going to be lovely  :s
  • Vent time!!!

Today this big ford truck (business vehicle) was riding my arse all the way down a long road. A truck in front of me (also a work truck) had a brake light out and some hoses covering up the other brake light. Well the vehicle in front of me made a rather quick stop but I had more than enough time to stop. The truck behind me was not paying attention and after I was already stopped still was going 45mph and looked like he was going to come barreling into me. He ended up swerving into oncoming traffic and ran other cars off the road. Then he gets back behind me and is seriously riding my arse even worse the rest of the way down this road. I thought he was going to try to scare me on purpose and he made all the same turns as me so I pulled into a random drive thru so that he would leave me alone and then he circled the parking lot twice and then finally left.

I reall wish i was able to get a tag number or at least the name of his business.
  • @Msashley2010 Whoa, wtf? I'm glad he left you alone. People are crazy.
Daisypath Anniversary tickers Lilypie Kids Birthday tickers
  • @Msashley2010 oh uh uh, I always have my baby with me driving places and I swear if someone did that to me, mama bear would come out SO FAST. One time in high school I got rear ended by this jerk who was oh his phone and literally hit me so hard he totaled his car. (I was in a truck so the damage wasn't bad to mine) but I had JUST printed out HUNDREDS of pages of weeks worth of research on an endangered field mouse for my Ag Issues team, and when he hit me it scattered all over the back of my truck. I had time to look in my rear view, see that he wasn't slowing down (I was stopped in traffic) and think "oh sh!t he's gonna hit me..." and then he hit me! He walked up to my window and I had to control my temper and not scream at him. I was white knuckles holding the steering wheel and I pulled into the bank parking lot and didn't get out til the police got there. I was so mad!
  • @daniellelynette That is so so scary! I'm happy you are okay!

I work in claims for auto insurance so I've heard a million crazy stories that make me so much more careful behind the wheel.
  • I'm so ready to be out of the first trimester.  I can't go grocery shopping because of all the smells, let alone I've barely moved the past three days because of the stomach bug!

Thank god god for my amazing husband, jello and toast!
  • @adoo I can't do the grocery store either. Jello sounds good! I'll put that on DHs list when he goes tomorrow, lol.

  • So when do you guys want to do a names thread? DH and I are having a hard time coming up with a name either way, I know it's still early and almost if us don't know the sex yet but do we want to start discussing names or wait? I feel like our board is moving sooooo slooowwwww. I didn't have a single VBAC check in today! Not surprised but we're getting boring guys
  • @daniellelynette  I agree... I love that we are not drama central, but it's getting boring. I'm all for a names thread whenever, we have a short list going for each gender.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @HollyGolightly09 First of all wow my English is terrible today lol I just reread my comment and it was awful lol. I'm glad you got what I meant. We're watching Star Wars (never seen it before) and DH is really annoyed with me not paying attention lol. Anyone who wants can start the name thread, I feel bad when I start threads and then get busy and can't respond, or when there are five billion responses and I don't want to reply to all of them lol.
  • @daniellelynette  When I watched Star Wars for the first time, DH (we were still dating) said "You're really going to need to put your phone down to watch this." For some reason it made me SO mad when he said that, haha.

I'll start it... we'll see what happens, lol.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @HollyGolightly09 Yes!!! DH keeps saying to me "Um are you even watching?" "Are you gonna watch this??" He's getting irritated and pausing all the time to explain to me. Lol. He's such a nerd, one of his grade school pictures is him in a Star Wars shirt lol.
  • Wish the article would change whenever I open the bump app. It's the worst foods for pregnant women and the picture is sushi. SO whenever I go in the app, I NEED sushi  :(
