Weekend Chatter 2/4

Happy a Super Bowl weekend!  What's everyone up to?  Sorry Pats fans, I am not huge into pro football, much prefer college, but I thought this was amusing.

  • @kassyfry it sounds like you've got an eventful weekend! I would love to go to an antique show, but they really don't have any down here. Is it the one in Shipshewana(sp?)?

We are going into town today because DD has skyrocketed out of her shoes and clothes lately. Also, we're going to try to do the BRU trade-in event so we can get a double stroller. I'm thinking that it will take so long we'll have to have lunch in town  :#  Then tomorrow is pretty low key.

We're around the house today. Heading to one of DH co workers late afternoon for some ice skating (DS first time)! Tomorrow we're having friends over for the super bowl...looking forward to snacks and hoping I have an appetite back!

Possibly getting DH to help me prep the walls in baby's nursery...we will see. I still need to solidify the paint color choice (some version of grey).

  • My husband is gone snowmobiling with his bromans for 10 days so it's me and dd all weekend. I'm contemplating dragging her shopping for check out clearance deals at ON, carters, gap. Lord knows it will be a shit show. Or I may take her to the children's museum instead. Tough call.
  • DH and I finished moved the things I couldn't move myself out of the nursery last night. He just left for the gym and I am going to go move the rest of the little stuff out and vacuum, clean the walls. Then it's time to figure out paint! Going to decide on and hopefully order furniture today. Once painting is done we have new carpet being installed. Excited to start making some progress! Tomorrow is regular house chores and then we are headed to a super bowl party.
  • We have an open house for our house today for over 3 hours, so we're going to go out to lunch and who knows what else, since it's "cold" by Texas standards today. (50's hahahaha)  You guys are really motivating me to start on the nursery soon (that is, if our house doesn't sell, which it feels like it neverrrr will ugh)
  • My daughter had her three year pictures this morning and thanks to the promise (re: bribe) of a chocolate heart donut from Dunkin' did amazing.  I can't wait to see sneak peeks.  This afternoon I am taking my husband for a surprise to get his ring finger tattoo he has been wanting for his birthday present and out to lunch with my sister and BIL.

Tomorrow is cleaning and watching the big game.

  • Hoping to book our babymoon this weekend and make some progress on the nursery and registry. We're trying to figure out where to watch the super bowl
  • DD was up all night with ear pain (crying ear pain for a kid that never complains) and a high fever. Go to the doctor and no infection. I am happy, but I feel bad that there is nothing to fix it either. Motrin for the win.

Oh no!  Poor girl.  Hoping she feels better soon!

  • We have a pretty laid-back weekend. Today we are just staying at home (though it is supposed to be close to 50 degrees this afternoon, so we might take DS to the park), and then DH has an opera rehearsal tonight. Tomorrow is just church and then another quiet day until he has another rehearsal again in the evening. When he gets close to a performance they have rehearsals almost every night. I don't really mind, but it's nice to have him around in the evenings to help with dinner and getting DS to bed.
I won't be watching the game. DS goes to bed at 7 and we don't have a TV! I can't really ask anyone to come stay with him because then they would miss the game too.
We're not that into football anyway, but we usually at least go to a party or something. Oh well. It's just that season of life, I suppose.

Had friend's bday dinner last night, but no real plans this weekend. I feel like I should be doing some baby prep, but not sure what to do. Hubby has the nursery coming along nicely . I'm 22 weeks.
Any tips on what I should do to prepare for baby NOW? I'm a ftm.

  • @CurlyMommy416 we put our house on the market when DS was 2 months old...it finally sold (after switching realtors) when he was 10 months old. I feel your pain 100%. Incredibly stressful! Lord know why we decided to do that while he was an infant  :s It all worked out in the end and we love our new home and property...there is light at the end of the tunnel!

  • BRU was having a sale on Carters clothes so, yesterday I bought DD1 and this little babe some matching rompers for the summer. I was planning on doing some sort of family outing today, but DD was up from 3:30-5:30, only fell asleep when I took her to bed with me (so of course I couldn't sleep) and then woke up for the day at 6:15. I'm exhausted. I hope to God she takes an extra nap today. It's not even 10:30 and I'm completely fried.
  • DH just left for the gym. I'll get laundry started when I get out of bed! I'm babysitting for my friend this afternoon while they go pick up her new car! Not sure what we are doing tonight. I usually babysit all night. No plans for tomorrow. Probably finish laundry and other cleaning/organizing.

Currently going through DS 0-3 month clothes and trying to decide what to keep for our baby girl and what to take to consignment. It is very emotional. She can wear a blue shirt that says, "handsome little guy." Right?

Yes, or perhaps an iron-on patch that says "lady"? (No snark intended!)

I just did this with DS clothes yesterday. We are also having a baby girl, so I kept most of the gender neautral clothing. I also had a mini cry session going through DS clothes. My baby boy is growing up gah. Good luck today! You'll get through it.
  • Found this freebie.  If you go to the sister site that makes covers for car seats you can get one of those free too with the same code.
  • This is a busy weekend for us. DD's birthday party is tomorrow morning. So we have to do some last minute shopping. But the party is at My Gym, so the teachers there will lead activities, and the kids will have a lot of fun playing.
But for now, DD is still on her sleepover with IL's. H and I had a lovely evening to ourselves and slept in this morning. It's perfect for our busy birthday day tomorrow!
  • Thanks for sharing @Wearmi1!

Random... went shopping at Destination Maternity this morning and hated almost all tops, ugh... @Stankonia2014 where did you find that black sweater that you love?  I thought it was Target but I must be overlooking it or it is gone... I'm not so great with color clothing, love me some neutrals.

DH has taught my boys to say that the Falcons are dirty birds in complete disgust... I think they are ready for Sunday  :D
  • I'm mostly chilling today. A little bit of laundry and cleaning out my gross fridge. We're having a very small gathering for the game tomorrow, potluck style. I'll be making the jalapeño popper dip and Oreo cheesecake dip from the link that was posted in the game day thread, as well as totchos.

  • They have this one free too! I'll pay shipping to get a freebie
  • We are visiting my brother and his family this weekend in Texas. It's nice to be in the warmer weather and give dd a chance to play outside for more than 20 minutes at a time. She has cousins close to her age here, too, and it is fun to see her playing with them. My brother and I have always been really close, so I always like spending time with him. And my husband is a pastor, so I love it when he actually takes a weekend off and we can hang out when everyone else is instead of his normal Friday "weekend."
  • Well today we traded in our expired car seat at BRU and got a new travel system. I couldn't talk DH into the expensive one I wanted so we compromised. But I'm happy. Then we went to Red Lobster for lunch so I stuffed my face with shrimp. Now I had to patch a hole in the nursery because my oldest put the door handle through the wall. I'm just glad I haven't painted yet. Tomorrow we are having people over for the big game. So I have to go grocery shopping in the morning then cook in the afternoon. Fun times.

Mom to Madison- 5 and Lillian 2....and now surprise baby #3!
  • @Wearmi1 I got a "free" seven sling for DS1, and it wasn't worth the shipping cost.  It's unstructured, the fabric isn't the sturdiest, and I was never able to get him seated in a way where I didn't think he'd fall.  I found a Jellybean sling at Burlington for less than the shipping cost of the Seven that is much better in terms of construction and usability.

That site and the sister sites are perpetually running promotions for "free" baby items.  None are terribly good quality, but the sling is probably the worst of them.  Maybe something has changed in the past 6 years, but I'd recommend against it.

  • @xath good to know!!! Thank you.
  • Today I got my nails done, picked up some maternity clothes at Macy's. Also totally splurged and bought the babies a pair of uggs. I could resist and they let me use a coupon on them. I'm realizing tonight well h works.
tomorrow we will grocery shop and hang out and watch the game.
  • I just bought my very first batch of baby girl clothes for DD. I went a little crazy because everything was on clearance or on sale. I've never had near as much fun shopping for DS clothes.

The shipping on those "free" items is usually ridiculous. I almost ordered a free nursing cover when I was pregnant with DS, then realized that I would owe $15 in shipping! That's more expensive than the nursing cover I had already purchased (granted, it was normally $30 but got it on clearance, but still). So not worth it!
  • @Wearmi1, I completely agree with @Xath, I think I paid $14.95 for shipping and the sling was poorly constructed and just not practical for baby wearing.
