Trying to Get Pregnant

Monday WTO

Re: Monday WTO

  • @feeislove Sorry to hear that :(

@loveindc As usual I agree with @heatherdubrow -- your doctor may still be a good obstetrician, but she shouldn't be giving out clomid like that. And unless you are having some other kind of problem (for instance, never ovulating, no periods, cycles <20 days, something like that) there's no reason to interfere with your cycle with any medication at this point. You may do more harm than good.

  • @loveindc I am with @heatherdubrow and @adirat  DO NOT TAKE CLOMID FROM AN OBGYN! (sorry not yelling at you just trying to emphasize to any lurkers out there what a bad idea this is!)  It can take a while to regulate off BC. even if you have a long cycle it does not mean its an an-O cycle.  Starting to temp is a great step to know whats happening with your body.  Before you consider taking any type of fertility meds its super important to have blood work, a HSG and SA done... there is no point to fertility meds if your tubes are blocked or its a sperm problem....  If you like her keep her as an OB, just not someone to help you get KTFU.

Random question for you ladies (and TMI):

So I am just trying to prep for when I do have my doctor's appointment for questions I want to ask. I am curious, I have read others on here talk about clotting disorders and having a test to check for that. Does anyone know what that test was called?

I don't know there is an issue and my OB *TW* said she wasn't going to start recommending baby aspirin yet since I only had one CP *TW* but I have noticed that when I do have my super short periods, there are lots of clots and thick blood at the beginning and then it's just spotty after that.

    Thanks for any insights!
  • @adirat enjoy your dinner!
    @canonmom413 happy birthday!
@LoveInDC fx the temp dip is your O day!  I've only had about 3 dips of all my charts but I know it happens!
@Dilynne so happy your brother got released!

  • @dragonfly87 there are several different clotting disorders (MTHR, factor V etc) out there that can be problematic when TTC/pregnant. and with clotting disorders the problem can be one of two things... one you don't clot appropriately so you bleed or your body makes clots too easily and then a clot can be in the blood stream and block the babies blood flow.  To me the clots you are seeing are probably more of an indication of more rapid/volume sloughing so that it clots coming out.  I do get clots sometimes also but its normal and not related to my clotting disorder....  Feel free to ask about it but from your history I'm not sure I would focus so much on a clotting problem...

@wabash15: Thanks for the insights! I am probably just worrying about nothing, but trying to figure what is possibly wrong with my super weird periods right now.

    ETA: spelling errors
  • @dragonfly87 After my losses my first few periods were always weird.  I would get clots as well, something I'd never had before. Mine regulated after about 3 cycles. Hopefully your body is just regulating!  It can't hurt to ask your dr for bloodwork. We did because we wanted to rule out any issues right away since we are both older.
  • @Redpuma119: thanks for the response and sorry for your losses. I guess I will see what happens with my next AF. **TW** Since I had a CP at 4 weeks, 3 days, I figured it wouldn't affect my cycles too much...but wondering if it did.
  • @Dilynne happy Monday to you! sounds like it is a good one
@feeislove so sorry to hear about your drama teacher

R/R: Rave: We're getting our new sofa delivered tomorrow and I'm really excited. We ordered it the day after Christmas.  Rant: My biggest complaint is weather. I wake up and it is in the 30s and by the time I leave work it is 70+. What happened to winter?!? and of course everyone is getting sick. Also, I had a dream that my boss told me my office was closing in June. I'm hoping it is one of those dreams that do not come true.

    CS/Q: not yet

GTKY: What would you be doing if you weren't at your current job?
I read this initially as if I were not working today...I was thinking, napping, maybe on a vacation somewhere. As I read others' posts I realized it was more about the kind of work. Social Work is actually my second career. I started out in journalism but quickly realized it was not for me. I did some behind the scenes work at local television stations and decided to take the leap and go back for my Masters, but if I could do anything at all...I would be a movie/tv reviewer. Getting paid to watch movies/TV sounds like a good time to me!

  • It seems like there are a lot of nurses on here and I just want to say you all deserve a standing ovation! It takes a lot of strength to do what you do so thank you!

@blackrose @heatherdubrow @ag90 @cactusblossum the ED can definitely get crazy! I used to work in a very urban department, which was intolerable (SO many patients + not enough nurses = unsafe conditions and unrelenting stress). Now I work in a sort-of-less-urban urban department, and my QOL is higher (I have time to talk to my patients :)

I don't want to be a downer, so take the following with a grain of salt: I just want to warn you that many nurses-to-be aspire to work in nicu/l&d/peds, so competition for new grad fellowships can be fierce and much of the time you can't start there – you may have to begin your career in adult nursing. Make sure you are capable of caring for adults, too :)

Jokes on me. So, I went to get the lab work done and the lab won't release blood work results directly to a patient. So I have to schedule an appointment with my doc to find out the results. Soonest date, February 13. So, it's a waiting game.

ETA: spelling, really struggling today, lol
  • @feeislove Sorry to hear about his illness. I also had a very memorable, wise HS drama teacher and I still think of him often, 16 years later (in particular, a kind of group meditation he would lead to help us get centered before a performance). Theater departments can really be like a second family. :)
  • @orbmaker that's actually what has been holding me back (I could have finished school by now based on when I started prereqs), everyone wants to work with the babies. I'm applying to school to see how that makes me feel but may defer for a year or until I'm at a point later in life that I want to do it. We'll see! Trying not to put pressure on myself :) But for sure, no adult in a hospital needs a nurse who can't handle caring for them.

  • @ag90 I think it's also true that a lot of nursing students who thought they only wanted to work with small humans find that they enjoy working with adults, too. Some even pull a 180. Or you're like me and it turns out you can't NOT burst into tears of pride every time a lady pops out a baby or a kid is brave! So don't sweat it too much. The stuff nurses-to-be worry about the most (drawing blood, starting IVs, cleaning adult BMs) are the things you get used to the quickest.

I actually started in peds onc as a new grad, they love to hire new grads into that department since you're still moldable/haven't formed any 'bad habits' yet
  • @heatherdubrow good intel! Seemed like some of my classmates had a harder time.

I was hired in the ED as a new grad and I think my manager had a similar theory.
  • @orbmaker I think it really depends on the hospital, but many of my classmates were hired to specialty areas right out of school. So I think that theory is probably true
  • Haha sucks that none of you can get pregnant

R/R: Rave: I went to the gym.

Rant: Brace yourselves. My temperature dropped a full degree this morning. I hate temping. It's supposed to make me feel better about what's going on, but there's no pattern for me and just when I think things are normal something like this happens! My opks were getting darker, and today's was stark white. I am just really at my wits end. Everything feels so against me right now, and I just want to give up. Which is usually about the time I discover that I'm super hormonal, but idk. I can't find a house, we don't make enough money, I can't ovulate let alone get pregnant, and oh, yeah. The sky is falling! I just want a hot bath and a glass of wine but there's no tub, and even if there was there are now 8 people in the house. :'( Somebody rescue me and take me to the beach! I've never been but I hear it's nice!
