  • How far along are you? 11 weeks and 4 days...

Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Today!! It's been nearly four weeks since my last, can't wait!! Hope all is well!

Cravings? I've been more hungry lately. Hubby is noticing I'm finishing all my food, including appetizers, desserts, etc. This can't bring myself to eat seafood...ehh

Rants/raves? Just excited and nervous about my appointment today. Meeting the midwife, might not do an ultrasound, but i think they'll go looking for the heartbeat and we'll schedule our genetic testings.

Questions for FTM, STM+? STMs - when did you first start noticing you were showing. Not showing to strangers, but when you noticed "hey, that looks like a bump!".

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation?  Last vacation was only about 5 days, went to London in December, we actually found out we were pregnant a few days before the trip, so no drinks for me. not as exciting..but still, a fun city!

    13 weeks 5 days

Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
    None till next Friday

    Cravings?
I was craving Japanese hibachi. Other than that fruit and smoothies

    Rants/raves?
I was getting excited about going 2 days without puking and thought maybe the nausea was gone, but then I puked twice this morning. It's like my body is punishing me for the 2 good days

    Questions for FTM, STM+?
STMs if DH wants to run with baby in the stroller eventually, do we need 2 strollers - traditional and jogging?

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation?
Last vacation was in August for our honeymoon. Spent a week in Napa and San Francisco! So amazing and want to go back!

  • How far along are you? 12w5d!!

Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?  We had our NIPT blood draw, an U/S to check baby's nasal bone and neck (NTS minus the blood draw) , 12 week checkup, and an unexpected visit to the ER for a UTI and 3L of urine in my bladder! Happy to have NOTHING going on this week...

Cravings? Sweets I guess. I was buying the yogurt with mix-ins yesterday and noticed when I got home I only picked out the dessert-type ones. Carrot-cake, s'mores, raspberry and chocolate, etc. Oops :)

Rants/raves? Hate my MIL. That is all, nothing new here!! She gave us an ultimatum to either tell her mom (our gma) we were pregnant or she was going to, but one way or another gma was finding out yesterday. Supposedly the whole world know and it's been long enough. DH and I decided if she said anything against our will we would cancel the shower she is planning and tell her she isn't welcome to babysit weekly. Oh and she can find out the sex when she changes the first diaper hahaha. then we turned our phones off for the night.

    Questions for FTM, STM+? Nope!

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation?  Punta Cana for our honeymoon April 2015. Got an intestinal parasite on the 26th hour there, ended up in a Spanish-only-speaking hospital for 24 hours, and booked 1 way tickets home as soon as I was discharged. Such a fun trip........

  • How far along are you? 12 weeks, 1 day!

Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Last week I had one because I had a small bleed but all was ok!! I was going to have my NT scan this week but they've rescheduled for next week now.

Cravings? Not really - I think my want for carbs has gone down a bit (I actually just realized it as I type this).

Rants/raves? No more yucky progesterone suppositories for me - it's nice not to have the mess after taking them since November!

Questions for FTM, STM+? STM - how much did you use a pack and play? I'm wanting to get a smaller, easy travel one but I'm also getting opinion that I should get the full size with the change table etc...that I'll use it even in my own house for the first bit (although I live in ranch style house so I'm on one level).

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation? Our honeymoon to Vegas. It was supposed to be our Mini Moon (we went for two nights since it was Thanksgiving weekend we didn't want to miss out on more family time) and we'd go away in the spring of 2016 but not being pregnant by then and the reality of IF treatments looming, we didn't do it. BUT - we got pregnant right before needing to try IVF so - I want a Babymoon!

  • How far along are you? 12 weeks 6 days

Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? I had my NT scan last week.  everything looked good, just waiting on the blood work, as well as my husbands carrier blood work.  I found out (not surprised) that I am a carrier for CF, so he is checking for himself, so Im anxiously awaiting that info.

    Cravings? Fruit and smoothies!

Rants/raves? We announced to the world this weekend! It was so freaking exciting! I also was finally able to get a workout in, for the first time since BFP!  It felt so good, and Im hoping I will be able to continue working out.

    Questions for FTM, STM+? Nope

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation? We went to Disney in Dec 2015.  That was our pre-ttc vacation, and it was amazing.  Vacations have been put on hold since then because of Zika, and travel to Kansas for my sister, shes a senior at K-State.  We went out there last fall, and should be out there in May for graduation.  Hoping to do a mini-babymoon to Rhode Island in June.

  • @littlebug2010 we're thinking of a mini babymoon in RI as well! We're thinking maybe block island. We want something pet friendly and relaxing. We're in Boston, so the drive wouldn't be bad.

@budzynb I'm so sorry to hear about that trip to punta cana! I can't imagine how that was! I hope you didn't write off mexico from that...

@jacksonbears I am also in Boston.  We have friends who live in RI and so we might just stay with them (not so baby moon, but still fun) or we might find a place to go, and leave our pup with a friend for a short weekend stay.  I love that its a short enough dive that we can make it a weekend trip!  I had also thought about doing a cruise to Bermuda, but it just isnt warm enough there, before the cruise would cut me off.  Most dont let you go if you are over 24ish weeks, and it just isnt warm enough there for me in march! I want HEAT!

edit: to answer @jacksonbears question.  I have started to notice a little bump, but just me.  I have always had a pooch, and its right where the bump would be, but I can feel it getting harder on the bottom.  Im also only 5 feet tall, and I have a super short torso, so that might be contributing to my bump.  Even my US tech said that I should show any day now, becuase Im so short.  I think it all depends person to person though, and if you are taller, it could take longer.

  • How far along? 10 weeks 4 days

appointments? Had my first prenatal visit with the midwife last week.  Was a little disappointed with it cuz I still haven't had an ultrasound and she didn't even attempt to listen to the heartbeat with a Doppler. Stated it was still too early and it could pose more worry to me if she didn't find it.  I have my NT screening next Friday but i can't wait that long not knowing what's going inside me so I booked a private scan for Thursday. My anxiety and lack of symptoms (which both my husband and myself explained to my midwife) didn't cause any concern to her, but it still leaves me with fear and doubt

rants/ when people keep telling me that my lack of symptoms is a good thing and I'm lucky. I really want to feel reassured that baby is ok in there. And with no ultrasound yet, I'm going on blind faith. Also my In laws keep pressuring me to tell my extended family about my pregnancy. But I wanted to tell people when I was ready after my ultrasound when I got to see the little bean. Well they spilled the beans and it really upset me. I feel like I have no control over anything :/

FTM questions. When did you start to show? I just feel like I'm getting a pudgy belly and more fat in my hips/butt. But no hard baby bump.
Also has anyone has virtually no symptoms and still having a healthy pregnancy? I feel like I'm not even pregnant

last vacay. June 2015 in Punta Cana with my husband and friends for a friends weddikng. I too got a nasty stomach infection

  • @Knottie80654994,  First, your Screen name makes it super hard for us to respond to you, I would suggest going into the Knot and changing it.  Second, I didn't get sick at all this pregnancy, and I had my NT scan last week and all was fine.  Baby was moving around like crazy.  My boobs were sore until about week 10, and I had some aversion to eating, but nothing that made me sick.  Being sick doesn't guarantee that your baby is fine. You can have all the symptoms but still not have a successful pregnancy.  The most important thing right now is to try and not stress, and just keep thinking that for now "im pregnant".  Im sorry your family jumped the gun on telling people, but at this point there is nothing you can do, so just relax, and breathe.

  • jacksonbears I didn't but my husband did. I had to go to Mexico for work 2 months after that trip for the first time and had no issues but husband doesn't want to spend money for the same thing to happen, so we aren't planning to leave the country for a very long time :(

Knottie80654994 oh no, I'm sorry about your trip too! It's a horrible place all because of that. We were boo-ing the girl from DR on Miss Universe last night because of our dislike for the country lmao being out $3k isn't a fun feeling so we will never forgive the country. hahaha I sound ridiculous. On another note, I would ask your MW to try the Doppler next time. We had our first Doppler used at 12w with no issues but also go to see the HB at 6 weeks with our dating scan. Some offices add a few weeks to everything so they're 100% positive they'll be able to find it but if she knew how stressed you were maybe she would have made an exception.

littlebug2010Knottie80654994 name. I was confused why you told her to change it when it's so easy with how I'm doing it. But I get it now! Also hope your husbands results are OK!!

  • @Knottie48095479 i agree with everything @littlebug2010 said. Just try and take it easy. I only had a little bit of nausea, but nothing too bad. My only real symptom was sore boobs, still have them. Stress doesn't help anything...

@littlebug2010 you're like my twin! I'm 4'11", and before the pregnancy i was 100lbs. When I got pregnant, i noticed i really bloated up, and it's mostly in my belly. But there's a bulge in my pelvic region, below my belly, I'm not sure if that's more bloat or the start of the bump...

I also have the same question as JWatt5 about the pack n play. We plan to use it as a bassinet for the first 4 months so do I splurge and get the bells and whistles or a simple one with maybe the shade and a few hanging toys and that's it?

Cravings? Ice creams and other sweets- cake, donuts, etc.

Rants/raves? Still not over the nausea. Pissed about that. Also irritated that all the baby gear at Target is not my style. Is it too much to ask for a plain boppy, rather than one with cartoons on it? Apparently.

Questions for FTM, STM+? Not today, thanks

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation? So... my husband is actually in the travel industry so we travel fairly frequently and on the cheap. We spent NYE in Colorado Springs and checked out Pikes Peak (the ranger couldn't remember the last time it was open on that holiday so we were lucky!). A couple weeks before that we went with a couple friends to San Francisco. We love quick weekend getaways. Next up that's planned is Hawaii for a babymoon!

  • @budzynb We (I was in TTGP and Feb 17 prior to this board) usually try to re-direct people who have the generic Knottie******** names, because its horrible to try and remember who is who, and if you ever want to respond, it is super hard to get the name right.  Also with a board that is this active, its easier to remember people by unique names and profile photos. Its just a suggestion, but it is a lot easier in the end.

@jacksonbears That is too funny!  We really are twins! I started this pregnancy over weight (sigh, but so easy for someone as short as we are), so I had my pooch, but I know there is something under it.  Plus my pooch seems to be popping out a tiny bit more than usual anyways. So I call it my bump!

Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?
Nope! Kinda love it, since appointments are super disruptive to my work schedule.

    Cravings?
All the food, please. I am just constantly hungry.

    Rants/raves?
    Ow, the boobs.

The baby box thread sent me googling, and I ran across Finnishbabybox.com - brilliant product and I'm in love. $450 seems like such an easy way to not have to make decisions about the basics while still actually having the basics (unlike the US babyboxco.com). SO is on board largely because he admires their business model.

    Questions for FTM, STM+?
The local moms that have dropped into my office on a daily basis recommend jogging strollers exclusively (because half the roads in town are unpaved, the sidewalks that exist are poorly maintained, beach access is not via boardwalk, and basically you need mountain bike tires). However I really love the idea of the multi-use strollers: snap the carrier forward or back into the car or the stroller. Is there a way to get both? Recommendations?
and ditto @JWatt5 on the pack n play question.

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation?
A weekend trip to Minneapolis for grad school bestie's wedding in October (apparently the last weekend of wedding season there, because 6 or the 8 people sitting near me on the plane were also attending weddings). But a real vacay? To Canada with my mom for 12 days in August - road trip through New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and PEI. Lots of seafood, lots of wild hikes through National Parks, lots of history. We had no idea that there were so many American (Loyalist) refugees after the Revolutionary War!

@jacksonbears This weekend I looked down and was like, that's a bump. Then I stepped on the scale, realized I've lost a pound or two in the past two weeks, and decided it was definitely real.

@budzynb oh no on Punta Cana! I once sprained my wrist and ankle eight hours into a backpacking trip around Ireland, but luckily all I had to do was convince the girls at the hostel desk to google whether one could drink with paracetamol (i.e. Is it a Tylenol or Motrin-like painkiller?) and then drown it in Jameson until I could find an open chemist in the morning. Hospital is way way worse!
  • STM here.... For those asking about the pack n play....We bought the one with the changing pad and the bassinet.  We never used the bassinet, and only used the changing pad a handful of times.  They were back in the box by the time LO was a month old and we only used the mattress part for him to nap in.  We still use it now to take on trips with us so he can sleep in it.  We won't even take the extra attachments out this time for our August baby.   I'm sure its totally up to each moms individual preference, but I found them to be a huge waste and we could have absolutely gotten a more basic PNP.

    Tomorrow!

    Cravings?
Dairy. I'm going through milk at an obscene rate.
I'm really starting to crave cake. Which is weird for me since I don't normally love sweets.
Stout. I'd love a good nitro stout right now.

    Rants/raves?
I told a few of my friends and they were so excited for us.

    Questions for FTM, STM+?

@mrsmatt1212 I feel the same way! It's almost as if the baby is abstract to me. I know I'm pregnant and am doing all the things you're supposed to do (and not do) but I still haven't connected to the fact that this is going to end up with a baby come August. I thought I'd feel really connected to the pregnancy since I'm a normally really emotional person, but I just feel like me with really bad skin, low energy, and bouts of nausea.

  • @Mango517 literally, same. I thought for sure I'd cry at the US since I'm normally a crier but I got nothing. It was exciting, for sure, but your word abstract is the best description. I feel like I'm just going through the motions! I want to feel pregnant mentally and emotionally, too!
  • Jealous of all the mamas with a little bump forming! I'm still working with pudge over here..

@DeansGirl14 I am having the same issues! DH and I have very neutral/simple taste. Every baby girl item seems to be bright pink with flowers or covered in Minnie Mouse. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong places...

Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go?  Had my 12 week appointment last Friday - went great! I'm sad knowing we won't see the baby via US until my 20 week scan, but grateful everything seems to be progressing well.

Cravings? I've been dying for sushi... I know some moms have posted they ate raw fish throughout their previous pregnancies, but I just don't think I can take the risk without worrying for the next 6+ months.

Rants/raves? I totally caved and bought a fetal doppler on amazon for 30 bucks.. I can't tell if this was a terrible idea that will make me overly obsessive, or a great way to calm any worries as my symptoms start subsiding. Rant: It's Monday and people are extra annoying  :s Like the guy sitting across from me in his cube sniffing in loads of snot making disgusting pig noises.. I'm gagging over here.

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation? Last "real" vacation was our honeymoon in Greece! We saw Athens and Santorini which were both gorgeous. Nope, none until Feb. 10 =(

    Cravings?
Resees puff cereal (so weird bc I swear I haven't had this stuff since I was like 10, but I made DH leave the house and go get me some lol) and the giant chewy sweet tarts!

    Rants/raves?
Rave is that I'm excited to be so close to getting out of the first trimester!!!
Rant is I threw up again this morning. Booo.

    Questions for FTM, STM+?
When did you start making your registry?? I want to start slowly adding items now, at least like "maybe" items, but I don't want anyone to go looking for it this early and think I'm crazy for actually having one!

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation?
ummm, forever ago?! My family beach trip  in July, which I didn't enjoy too much, because there were two really pregnant cousins there, and I had been struggling to get pregnant, so it almost hurt to even look at them. Next vaca will be our babymoon.  No clue when or where that'll be though

  • lyse01 check out the Graco Fastaction Fold Jogger (and XT model), Baby Jogger City Mini GT, and the Joovy Zoom 360 Ultralight. We live in a similar town and our normal walking paths are on gravel bike trails or at the dog park which is all grass and hills so we really need a good all-terrain stroller. These are on my list right now. We aren't getting an infant carrier so I don't know if the Joovy fits other carriers but I know the Baby Jogger has a $30 attachment for clicking in infant seats and the Graco one comes with a carrier or can attach others as well. If you really have a high budget, BOB Revolution is the best option, but it's grayed out on my list due to the $400+ price tag :( Other options are Schwinn brand, Chicco Performance Jogging, Grace Relay Jogging, and GB x1 Urban Runner. lol

kristenk727 thanks for your experience on the PNP. Nobody on Amazon shares that side of a review since they usually review something within a week of unboxing it. I will stick to a similar one for under $100 that just has the sunshade or a little arch with hanging toys since this will be their bed.

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation?
last week my husband and i did a road trip up north... but it was partly for my work - so i don't know if that counts? other than mini trips like snowboarding, camping, or Mexico, we did our big honeymoon trip to Asia last May. can't wait to start planning a babymoon!! we are definitely due for another real vacation.

  • @Kathryn0903 It's such a beautiful state! We were in Norwich at the King Arthur Baking Company. We live on the NH seacoast so it's just about 1.5 hours away - perfect weekend getaway!

    Cravings? Honeycrisp apples and fruit

    Rants/raves? eh

Questions for FTM, STM+? What type of co-sleeper/bassinet/etc did you use in your bedroom for your newborn. We would like to co-sleep for the first 6 months and I don't know where to start in terms of co-sleeping setups.

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation? We went to France and Germany last June. I thought I would hate Paris but absolutely loved it and it was definitely the highlight of our trip. The French were a lot more welcoming and friendly than I expected. God I could go for a chocolate croissant right now!

  • @Knottie80654994 I still haven't had an ultrasound or doppler yet. My OB listed similar reasons as your midwife for not listening to the heartbeat. What state are you in? I feel like some states must reimburse doctors well for ultrasounds and that's why some women have what seems like a million ultrasounds. I live in PA and it is notorious for reimbursing doctors terribly so I feel like that is one reason why my practice did not do a first appt ultrasound (mine wouldn't have been until the anatomy scan if I did not opt for the NT scan).

@Kathryn0903 Oooh Napa. That was on our bucket list of places to go next. Well that's not going to happen this year...maybe 2018! Do you have any wineries that are worth visiting?

@budzynb Wow your MIL is a witch. Good for you and your DH for standing up for yourselves. I would absolutely not feel comfortable going to a shower thrown by someone that is giving ultimatums for the most ridiculous things. Sorry you have to deal with her!

@lyse01 I am half tempted to buy one of the Finnish baby boxes (or I'll add it to my babylist registry)

@NatSprat0703 I'm curious about this too. I know that you can make your Amazon registry private but I'm not sure about other lists or stores. I am a planner and am chomping on the bit to get started on this registry!

  • @jacksonbears : with my first pregnancy I started to show around 14 weeks. I forget what week I started with my second, but now with my third I'm starting to show at 10 weeks

@Kathryn0903 : we only had the one stroller (just a Snap n Go) but if you want to jog with the baby then you might want a jogging stroller.

@JWatt5 : We used the pack n play in the living room as a place to easily change the baby and store diapers/wipes. We didn't really use it for sleeping except for traveling. We actually still put my two year old in it to sleep not long ago on vacation.

    @NatSprat0703 : I think I made the registry around 20 weeks

@BlackNYellow : Rock n Play all the way for the bedroom. That thing is a lifesaver.

@smallbutmighty77 : I think we started looking in my second trimester. I actually had a place picked out with a security deposit on it and then during my modified bedrest (about 2 weeks before my daughter was born) I found a different place that was way more convenient to my husband's work and we ended up choosing that place instead

  • @budzynb ugh, I feel for you! I thought my MIL was bad, but yours sounds even worse! Mine couldn't wait to tell her aunt - apparently she has asked my MIL every week since we got married if I was pregnant yet. Does it make anyone else uncomfortable knowing other people are talking about your reproductive system/sex life, or is it just me?
  • How far along are you? 13 weeks, 2 days

Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Yep, had an appt on Friday and got to hear that sweet little heart beat  :)

Cravings? I've been eating cereal like crazy. I really would love to have an egg with a runny yolk or a cold deli sandwich....I'm basically craving everything I can't have right now.

Rants/raves? See previous comment about MIL. My in-laws are chomping at the bit to tell the world. I had to tell my SIL she can let people know, but DO NOT post anything on social media bc I've barely told anyone yet and don't want them finding out from someone else!

Questions for FTM, STM+? We took a tour of a daycare on Friday, but DH wants to check out an in-home daycare before we decide on anything. Do you prefer daycare or in-home child care better, and why?

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation? We went to Hawaii for our honeymoon and jumped from Maui, to Kauai, and ended in Oahu. I'm ready to go back just to get away from this cold, dreary weather!
  • How far along are you? 13 weeks tomorrow!

Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Next appointment is this Friday.

Cravings? Anything cold...Smoothies/freezes! And my bad craving is pop!

Rants/raves? Just been feeling horrible these past 2 days. I felt extremely faint in church on.Sunday and since then just been not feeling the greatest. Headaches and feeling nauseated and constantly dry heaving.

Questions for FTM, STM+? Times like this when I feel sick I wonder and worry how will I be able to take care of a child when I feel as horrible and energy-less as I do now.

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation? Last August my hubby and I went on a vacation trip with a group of our friends to Tennessee Gatlinburg. Super fun time parrying in the cabin!
  • How far along are you? 9w+5d

Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? Not until blood draw 2/7 and 13 wk appt 2/24

Cravings? Chips & salsa, waffles w/ butter & syrup... at least today haha

Rants/raves? We told my parents Friday. They're excited and want to tell everyone since it's their first grandchild. I get it, but it's also annoying because it's our news to share, and we still want to wait a bit, especially after genetic testing.

Questions for FTM, STM+? @jacksonbears and I had the same question. Pants are def getting tighter, and I know some of it is bulge/bloat, but I feel like I'm trying to hide it.

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation? Our honeymoon in October to London & Ireland. It was the best trip ever! Now, every few days or so we talk about moving there... and it's getting more and more appealing!

Any appointments this week or last week? How did it go? last ultrasound with our RE this coming Friday, then the first with our OB next week!

Cravings? we have this restaurant chain by us (Ohio) called Smashburger...the one thing that sounds good to me all the time is their grilled chicken "spicy baja" sandwich with their sweet potato fries. I could eat them every single day.

Rants/raves? this is kinda silly, but I'm getting annoyed with my MIL checking in on me every single day to see how I'm feeling. I know she's excited and she cares, but ahhh. She also asks for pictures of our new kittens allllll the time. I can only imagine how she is going to be when the baby comes!! My DH might need to have a chat at that point!

Questions for FTM, STM+? Speaking of kittens - does anyone have experience with cats and babies? My DH thinks I am ridiculous for being worried of the cats jumping in the crib or bassinet and smothering the baby. I said we just need to keep doors closed and keep a really close eye on them. Am I crazy?

GTKY: When and where was your last vacation? We went on a Caribbean cruise in June that was fantastic! Thinking of going away over Memorial Day weekend which coincides with my birthday too...maybe Colorado or Utah...I need to get researching!

  • @BlackNYellow I live in Buffalo NY. I never really thought about that. You brought up a interesting point. That must be the reason.
  • @smallbutmighty77
I'm in Chicago too and we're starting this week (week 13/14) to research our employers' policies on day care (I heard mine lets you use a health savings account for licensed day care?). DH has a coworker whose wife is 5 months along and they're actively looking at places and putting down deposits. DH and I decided that this coming weekend we'll set aside time to look up places in our neighborhood and start hitting the pavement.

There was another question somewhere about day care centers versus in-home. I'm a FTM but what I've heard from others is interesting. 1) In-home may be cheaper and may be your only option, which is fine. If they're not licensed you can't qualify for a tax credit or any tax savings (i.e. HSA). 2) A friend of mine is a second grade teacher and she said something that I've heard elsewhere- the kids who go to daycare centers are often (but not exclusively, of course) better socialized and better educated. The centers usually have proper teachers, and with in-home you may get a teacher or you may get more of a baby sitter.
This is all anecdotal of course. My DH was "raised" by his grandmother in his very early years and he's a well-adjusted adult and very, very smart. So whatever. LOL.

  • @LoweeeK definately not crazy!! I've been having the same fears myself.  I have 2 dogs and 2 cats.  I'm not worried about the dogs at all, and I'm mostly worried about 1 cat in particular.  Bc he is so attached to me and I'm scared when he's not getting as much attention that he's going to take it out on baby.
