Re: Randoms - Week of January 23rd

  • Omg @clt2pwm11 I'm speechless. Do they know what happened and how come you went into labour so early? I'm sorry you have to go through this, but I'm glad it happened at this stage and that you are well. Hope you get to see baby boy soon. Praying for you and your family.

  • @clt2pwm11 - I am thinking of you and youe little one.

Thank you ladies. It has been a long day. I met with 1 ob, 2 mfm residents and a neonatal doctor. Everyone seems to have different opinions, but everyone is in agreement they are optimistic I won't deliver for a few weeks. The mfm residents were great. they are under the best mfm in the area. At first they said there was nothing they would do until 23 weeks (viability here). Then they talked to the mfm and she said she might want to try an emergency cerclage. Most doctors do not suggest them for twins, but I guess she is the best of the best. They checked my cervix and I am not dilated. I am not contracting either. The mfm wants one of their doctors to do an ultrasound in the morning then she will decide what she wants to do. I am uncertain how I feel about the cerclage but it might be the only option to come close to 36 weeks. They also have started me on progesterone. And I will either start steroid injections and maginisum tomorrow or Sunday to help the babies develop just in case.  The neonatal doctor went over risks and asked us to sign an agreement if we want to try to intubate at 22 and 23 weeks if they come in the next week and 3 days. Hopefully we have a definite plan tomorrow. Every day is one day closer to them being okay if they come.

  • You are so strong @clt2pwm11! I can't imagine how scary this must all be. I told DH last night about both yours and @kelrauh 's situations frustrated because after all the struggle with IF it just doesn't seem fair to have to go through this too. Glad your sweet boy is in good hands and wishing you a speedy recovery so you can reunite with him.  Hugs!

  • @clt2pwm11- they are giving me magnesium because it is supposed to lower a babies risk of cerebral palsy significantly. The mfm said if they can get it in the moms system it can lower the risk by 50%. I cannot imagine how scary your situation is. If the nicu team he has is anything like the one I have here he will be in great hands. They reassured us a lot yesterday, and with him making it to 26 weeks he has odds strongly in his favor. I am glad they are able to do donor milk. That was also discused yesterday, it reassured me that if they come early and I can't supply it they will have it. I hope you can see your little man soon. I am thinking and praying for you.
@2legbaby- it isn't fair. That's all DH keeps saying. I feel like the fertility process has made it a little easier to work though this in my head though. I feel like our fight to get here puts a bit of fear and a lot of drive in all of us which makes us not question going though whatever it takes to put our babies first. Signing documents to say if I would want them to intubate the babies and try to save them if they were born right now was an easy thing to answer and thanks to the ivf process I knew DH and I were on the same page due to having many ethicical things to decide prior to conceiving.

  • Today was frustrating. We got the news that my cervix length is now 0 but I'm not dilalated. They wont do a cerclage now. So we sit and wait and hope they sit tight. They started me on meds in case I'm having undetectable contractions. Will start maginisum and steroid shots tomorrow to aid development.

  • @kelrauh what an amazing feeling to make it to viability. @clt2pwm11 I hope your reunion was nothing short of incredible. I'm thinking of both of you ladies daily!

AFM- has anyone had experience with getting dizzy/nauseous and almost passing out? I almost because 'that girl' yesterday at a wedding. I'm not sure if it's because my nose is sensitive and the combo of people's perfume and an older gentleman in front of me in the pew whose suit clearly hadn't been worn in years and was musty along with the standing/kneeling did it but as I was kneeling my ears started to plug, I got dizzy and had to sit down. Then I got all sweaty and nauseous. Fanning myself with a program helped and the feeling passed after a few minutes. It freaked me out though.

  • @byrneme  if I change positions too quickly I will get extremely dizzy and have close to passing out. It's from the cardiovascular changes in our bodies(increased blood flow etc). My dr assured me it's totally normal but I just need to slow down. Strong cigarette smoke smell makes me pretty nauseated but never to the point of dizziness or feeling faint. I usually just feel like I might lose my cookies on them.

Make sure you are drinking enough water as well! I notice it a lot more if I'm slightly dehydrated.

@kelrauh Congratulations on hitting another milestone! Hopefully the babies stay put for a little bit longer. It's amazing how far modern medicine has come! Sending prayers and positive thoughts your way!

@clt2pwm11 Im glad to hear Charlie is doing well! I hope you guys had a great reunion! Sending prayers and positive thoughts your way!
  • @kelrauh Congrats on reaching viability with your 2 littles! Praying that they only grow stronger each day that they remain in their cozy home. Sounds like you're in good hands! Thank you for updating us.

@clt2pwm11 How'd your reunion go with Charlie? Thinking of you!

I'm 22 weeks now. My rheumatologist told me right after I got pregnant that because of my autoimmune disorder I have an increased risk of pre-term labor. That, combined with what you ladies have been going through this week, has made it adamant in my mind that I request a cervical measurement at my ultrasound on Tuesday! Trying to not get too paranoid.

@clt2pwm11- I am so happy to read your little Charlie is doing good.

I am jealous of your families ability to understand. My mom is being a bit overwhelming. She lives 2 hours away and is a nurse for reason she feels like she needs to be here 24/7 and ask the doctors and nurses questions.  DHs family is not like that at all. My DH is not happy about it and wants me to tell her she needs to give us space and go home (which she did yesterday but is making her way back today even though I asked her to come back Wednesday) she said we have snow storms coming and doesn't want to get stick in it if something happens. Every hint I have made she acts like DH doesn't like her and has a problem with her. I told DH that my focus right now is keeping my stress down and these babies in so I cant be between the two of them. Sorry for my rant I've only been here 5 days and I feel like I'm losing it.

Ugh, family hey @kelrauh. They all mean so well, yet sometimes that's not what you need!
Definitely keep your stress down as much as one can.
Any chance you could tell your mum it is so very kind of her, but you need your rest, so if she could come certain days so you can get your energy up the other days?
And do not apologise for ranting here. You may rant 24/7 on this board if that takes off the heat and you keep those babies inside!

  • @kelrauh I'm sorry that your family is not helping your stress levels. I know how it feels to be in between two parties who should know better. Like @tvh1982 said, if you can firmly tell your mom that you need her to respect to your wishes,  that would be good. Some people do not respond to hints at all, and you may have to risk hurting her feelings in order to get your boundaries up where they belong. If you can't, is there another family member who could intercede for you?

  • @kelrauh So sorry you're dealing with family stress right now! Is there any chance you can get the doctors and nurses to be the bad guy for you? Can you ask them to tell your mom visitors are restricted for your health and well being? That way you don't have to try and deal with being the peace keeper and can just focus on the babies.
  • @clt2pwm11 great news on Charlie's progress and totally agree with him not being at home for the shower with his sensitive immune system

@kelrauh I second @persnickity 's recommendation about having nurse/Dr play the bad guy...during our birthing class the nurse encouraged us to use them if family was getting to be " too much "(in reference to l&d but applies even more to your situation as stress is bad!)
