Re: Randoms - Week of January 23rd

  • My local hospital has a "free" online breastfeeding course. It was ok, but a little disorganized in my mind, but still if anyone hasn't taken a course gives good information!

  • We took a birthing class one Saturday back when I was only like 26ish weeks- this past Saturday we had a full day of three classes with CPR, newborn care and breastfeeding and I am 35 weeks. I think it all depends- due to my husbands work schedule we had to do the weekend 1 day classes- if you are doing the class with many sessions over a time period you can probably start earlier- early third tri is probably a good time! @rmarble23

Me: 28, DH: 30 Married July 2014  DX: Severe MFI- 3 failed IUI's, IVF #1 Egg retrieval June 4th 2016, 5 day transfer- BFP Baby Boy! EDD 2/25/2017. Our sweet miracle Carter Bennett arrived 2/12/2017 6 lbs, 2 oz 19 inches. <3 Surprise BFP!!! Baby Girl due 10/1/2018.

  • Posted this in 3rd tri board, but i'll post here too!

We went to our first birthing class this weekend (I'm 28wks)... I dragged hubby to yoga studio. Oh it was SO FUNNY seeing him attempt some of the poses. To be fair, I had no idea we'd actually be doing yoga for 1/4 of the class... was just thinking I'd be doing moves and he'd be learning how to support me... which happened as well. But I was giggling whenever I caught glances of him. He was NOT thrilled, but held his tongue and was very supportive. He's a good ol' West Texas boy... they just don't "get" yoga lol! Thankful he did it for me though<3

@rmarble23 all the classes I've looked up recommend that you are in 3rd trimester - hospital & non-hospital both. We will most likely go to a hospital weekend class like @chicandbubbly when I get a little further along!

  • Oh and just read through some of the posts from last week that I missed...

@rmarble23 @clt2pwm11 I wouldn't worry about the weight gain. Doctors need to CHILL. I've gained 23lbs so far and my doctor is just like eh, you should technical only 7 more lbs to be within the healthy range... but she didn't seem too concerned. I was pretty thin before pregnancy, so I just feel like I'm catching up to what is healthy. Oh and I passed the GTT with flying colors.

I will say after that visit, I've started to make smarter food choices and we joined a YMCA near our house... I've begun regular workouts there. I'm not really concerned with the weight gain as much as how out of shape I am... I've heard labor is the most intense work out of your life. So I want to be prepared! Working out with 23lbs extra weight has NOT been easy... I feel so HEAVY, but also energized and healthier!

  • Has anyone been told to take iron due to being anemic? My dr said take slowfe iron pills but after one pill I was up all night with a horrible stomachache that had me up for hours. I have an ob apt tomorrow so I'll ask them what I can do to avoid that again but the label says its gentle on your GI track and I call BS on that.
  • @ale9687 I am taking an iron supplement due to "slight anemia". I was told to take at a different time than my pre-natal to avoid getting sick. The nurse also recommended I take before bed because you're most likely to sleep through any GI discomfort. I'm sorry it kept you up!! I had some GI issues the morning after taking the first pill, but I seem to have gotten used to it now. I've had no further problems. The brand I'm using is Nature Made and the "strength" is 65mg. I hope this helps!

  • I'm trying not to freak out. I had sex with dh last night and I just went to the bathroom and there was a little pink blood when I wiped. I know it's probably nothing, but I'm 26 weeks, so I'm naturally a little concerned since I haven't had any bleeding since early in the pregnancy. Would you call the doctor or just wait and try to take it easy?

  • Hey @clt2pwm11 I think the spotting is most likely due to sex and a more fragile cervix (due to all the hormones) that being said I would call your doctor's office so that you can get peace of mind, I had lots and lots of spotting my first trimester, but had a tiny  little bit  last week (week 28) and made sure to mention it to my doctor even though I wasn't as concerned. DH and I stopped having sex because I would bleed each time and it was too stressful!

  • @clt2pwm11 I'm sorry you're going through this! Any blood at any time is scary to see. If I were you, I'd probably call the doctor/nurse just to get some reassurance. It's likely just irritation, but they may want to see you to check your cervix and whatnot just to be sure things are okay. I hope it turns out to be nothing!

@2legbaby I hear ya! We haven't had much sex, and I feel so bad about it. Hand jobs for the win.

@BlueEyedDreamer Part of what had me worried was that he hadn't moved all day, but I ate a small snack an hour ago, and he has been moving ever since. I haven't seen anymore blood, so I'm going to hold off until tomorrow, but I'll definitely call if I see anymore. I just love him so much and want him to be ok.

  • @clt2pwm11  - I just had the pink spotting Monday night and I totally forgot that DH and I had sex on the Sunday, which helps make my pink spotting make even more sense. That was the first time since my IUI in November and it'll be the last time for a while. Glad you can feel him moving, that's a good thing.

  • @ale9687 I haaaated being on iron pills, so I just irresponsibly stopped taking them. A friend recently recommended Floradix, which is a plant-based liquid iron supplement. The liquid form supposedly makes it easier to absorb and easier on the stomach. I've been taking it off and on for about a month; my stomach has been ok but not great (though that may just be pregnancy in general), and I'll be going in for bloodwork in a couple of weeks so I'll see if it's been effective.

In the meantime try to fill your diet with iron-rich foods. Every little bit helps!
  • @cato99 I may ask my ob about doing the pill every other day or something. Id be interested to hear if the liquid version helps at all.

@babylonghorn16 I took my prenatals hours before my iron pill today, so I'll see if that helps anything. My pill is 45mg so not as strong as yours. I do have gi issues to begin with so maybe I'm just super sensitive to them no matter what the strength.
  • @rmarble23 We recently registered for all the classes we're going to take. Some will be very early 3rd trimester and others will be mid-late 3rd trimester. It really just depended on when they were offered because they were really only offered once a month, so trying to coordinate was a little tricky. My breastfeeding class is unfortunately dangerously close to my due date, but it was the only class I could take as the previous month's offering conflicted with a different class. I would check out the schedule and start planning!

  • @clt2pwm11 Can you email your doctor? Mine has a web based portal that I can send an email through. That way, I can let them what's going on and they can respond when they get a chance without me feeling like I'm being a bother. They respond really quickly! I'm having spotting today and they emailed me back in a few hours and even got me in for an ultrasound as reassurance today.
  • Well today's ultrasound did not go so well. I am 22 weeks and 3 days. Babies are measuring almost a week ahead and weigh 1lb 3oz and 1 lb 4oz. But it turns out my cervix decided some time in the past 3 weeks that it cannot handle two babies. My cervical length is only 0.5cm and baby A sac is funneling. So, it looks like I will be laying in a hospital bed until they make their entrance. I am not having any contractions and I do not believe I am dilated. They dont seem too concerned at the hospital but I have only talked to a resident since leaving the ob office. The ob on call said I dont need a mfm consult that they feel comfortable handling this. I'm going to put my foot down on that since I am high risk due to twins and my cervix. We meet with an ob and neonatal doctor tomorrow. I am counting the days to 24 weeks and then 28 weeks. I dont know exactly what to expect or hope for but for now I am trying to be positive.

@2legbaby - yes they said I have an incompetent cervix. Ob said no cerclage due to how far I am, the funneling and twins. I want another opinion which is why I want an mfm. From everything I have read on trusty dr. Google it seems like it is typical for them not to do one because infection and preterm labor risks are high. Hopefully I will get some answers today.

  • @kelrauh I'm so sorry to hear this, it's so very scary! I also have cervical incompetency but luckily in my case we discovered it earlier at 2.5cm (it had shortened by 1cm in 1 week) so they immediately gave me a cerclage at 18w.

Totally agree you should absolutely insist on seeing an MFM. They just have more experience with these issues and you want the absolute best care possible.

If it's any consolation, my cervix got longer after I stayed in bed for 10 days, so bedrest really helps. I also got meds (terbutaline) to stop contractions after the operation, and was put on the progesterone suppositories. It all seemed to help.

I'm off bedrest now but still not allowed to walk too much, stand or even go to office. I'm 26w now.

Let us know what your MFM says. Hang in there

  • Well friends, I had pre-term labor. Last night my contractions got strong enough to wake me up. They were close together and I was bleeding, so we headed to the hospital. I was dilated significantly, and they couldn't stop them even with medicine. The Dr. decided to do an emergency c-section, and our little boy was born around 8. He weighed about 2 lbs ( I'm 26 weeks and some odd days). We haven't seen him yet, but I'm doing well. Please keep us in your prayers as this was very unexpected and we have a long way to go.
