Re: Moms who go Bump in the night/Randoms

  • So Preston has a bleeding diaper rash that just won't quit and a double ear infection... Joy...
Our ped prescribed us a paste that has zinc, hydrocortisone, and niactin(?). It cleared up the stubborn rash Jackie had for a week within a couple days of use.

Oh no! My oldest had bad rashes. I tried all the natural stuff, but for some reason the only thing that worked for him was "butt paste". I hope for both of your sakes that things clear up quickly!
Somehow Nadia has a magic bottom and hasn't gotten a rash yet. (Knock on wood)

That's whatvthe Pediatrician told me to get, butt paste, lol.
We use Baby Butz paste, it's been amazing. I switched when his diaper rash was starting to come back and it went away within a day and we haven't had any trouble since then
  • So my son has started to make fake, or what I think are fake, coughing noises.  Sounds like he is constantly clearing his throat.  He has no other symptoms. I mean he has constant boogers, but nothing excessive like when he has a cold.  I have resigned myself to the boogers, but his delight in fake coughing is starting to throw us off... Any thoughts??  Should I be more concerned?
  • egirl1025 my son was doing this for a few days and I thought the same thing.. then on I think the second night it turned into a worse cough and a fever.. turned out to be RSV. Just keep an eye on it, RSV was legit hell.
  • Preston does the cough but it's short quick bursts one after another, like a laugh.  Turns out he was trying to mimck our laughs.
  • Damien does that too and I know he is trying to mimic my laugh as well...my husband has always made fun of my laugh so it's kind of funny to hear Damien do it too.
  • Our LO was doing this tooand I read that a lot of babies just do it when they discover that they can, they like the sound of it or something. My mom thought it could be allergies but she only did it for a few days
  • Babies find out they can make a new noise and they like to practice it. It can either be super cute or super annoying depending on the noise!

Hahaha my nephew would shriek like a raptor! He's 19 months and still does it when he's excited. Lol

Damien does that! We say he is calling in his dinosaurs.

Ethan discovered what I refer to as screeching. It's an awful, high pitched scream. Lol. He particularly enjoys doing it during dinner time.  :#

My second baby did that! And she always did it during the quietest part of our church services on Sundays, haha.

Every time we burp Madelyn, my son will fake burp after. My BFF's daughter used to fake sneeze because she loved how a real sneeze felt, and she wanted to do it again.
  • Savannah makes some of the weirdest noises! Sometimes she is completely silent and others she is a shrieking machine! It is so funny to watch

  • Calvin is crawling now. I cannot turn my back for a second without him scooting off the playmat and licking the high traffic area of the floor. He is also impossible for diaper changes. He will not lay on his back long enough for me to change him! Aaaargh.
  • I got invited to a baby shower for a girl who recently moved about 20 miles away. She and i have known each other for years, were in the same social circle, but were never very close. I haven't talked to her since she moved 4 months ago, and I doubt I'll hear about the birth of the baby from her when it happens, probably just through mutual friends eventually.

I can't make it to the shower. Am I still obligated to send a gift? Normally I would want to, but since we never actually talk I feel a little funny about it if I'm not even attending. I'm not sure what the right protocol is in this situation. Thoughts?

That's tough! Maybe if a mutual friend is going send a pack of diapers (or something small) and a card along with her?

It's at a friend's house nearby, and another good friend is organizing a group gift, it's just that she and I aren't in touch anymore

I wouldnt worry about it too much then.
  • Anyone else's older kids fight naptime like crazy?! It's like the sooner you nap the sooner you can get out!!!
  • i don't know what to do. There's a school meeting tonight, and I was going to go while dh stayed home this time to put the kids to bed. But dh isn't feeling well, and I don't know if going to the meeting is worth him parking the kids in front of the TV till I get home, and having to deal with over tired cranky kids at 9pm. I hate being an adult sometimes

  • Nothing like going to work with 3 healthy kids and picking up 3 sick kids... Sorry grandma!!!
  • All three kids have croup. One of my girls woke up crying and hyperventilating then proceeded to puke down my shirt and into my bra. It's going to be a loooooong night!

  • Thanks everyone!!! The croup is awful! We made a bathroom sauna and that seemed to help, croup always scares me because my hubby's brother momentarily died from it as a child, so I know how serious it can be. Thankfully the baby is not as sick as his sisters too!

Ugh!!  So sorry to hear that it hit everyone!!  Hope everyone gets better quickly.  Croup is no joke!  Sending good thoughts your way.
  • It was a slow afternoon at work (work from home day) so I started going through lots of old baby clothes of DS' and LO's, deciding what to keep as keepsakes and what to throw away/donate.  I'm having so many feels right now. LO is our last baby so I'm feeling sentimental about everything.

I've been doing the same thing, and it's definitely mixed emotions.

  • So this was my first week back at work. It wasn't as traumatic as I thought it would be, I'm so busy at work that before I know it, it's time to go home. I miss her so much though, when I come home I just want to hold her and drink in her smell!

I'm exhausted, I feel like I'm joining the club of tired, working moms who feel like they don't have enough time to do either job well...

  • I start back at work in April so I decided that Damien and I should do a little roadtrip together. I plan to drive down to VA to visit family and friends, then during that visit my parents, Damien, and I will continue south to North Carolina. My grandmother in Alabama will be driving up with my aunt and my other aunts, uncles, and abuelita live ther in NC. This will give everyone a chance to to meet Damien and for me to see family that I haven't seen in ages. We'll head back to VA for awhile and then Damien and I will drive back to Montreal. I feel like I'm nuts to want to do this but at the same time, I really want to do it. The drive to VA and back will be done at my leisure and I plan to stop for the night at the halfway point. If Damien has had enough before we reach that point, we'll just stop wherever. I'm not on a timeline and I don't want to push Damien too much. I'm really excited about the trip but again, I also feel like I'm crazy to do it.

That sounds like a lot of fun! I think you should do it : )

When I drove the 10hrs from San Diego to San Francisco I broke it up into a couple days. I found 2 hours was just about the perfect length of time (granted Jackie was 2 months at the time). Even if you just stop for lunch to stretch legs, it's worth it.

Also, unless you have a very regular baby that will poop before you get in the car, put a burp rag or cloth diaper down in the car seat in case of blow outs. Jackie blew out her diaper almost daily during our 2 week drive cross country because in her car seat there's just no place for it to go but up her back. The rag will avoid you needing to wash a car seat pad.

Have fun and if you have time to kill anywhere near Norfolk, Va lemme know. I'd love to meet a fellow June '16er in person.

@meggyme I'm definitely going to make frequent stops, that's great advice to follow. I won't be in any hurry so if he maxes out at 2hrs and wants to stop for the day, I'm cool with that. I'm hoping to hit Woodbury, NY to stay overnight since that is the halfway mark (the drive is about 10hrs total) but I don't mind stopping whenever is necessary for as long as necessary. Good call on putting down a rag, we have awesome pee pads, think I will bring a few of those!

My parents are in a small town outside of Fredericksburg and I think a day trip to Richmond will happen at some point. When I was a kid, we were stationed at Oceana so I do know Norfolk pretty well. I don't think I'll be heading in that direction but I'd be down for a meet-up in Richmond if that was doable.
  • Kind of sad that last night I had to get up with two of the kids a total of 4 times between 10pm and 4am, the day started at 5:15 am with the third kid, and it was still the most sleep I've gotten in weeks. I really want some rest! Anyone have any energy boosting secrets?

  • My MiL made us a new comforter and blackout curtains for our bedroom. I picked out the fabric for both. She finished the project last summer and they've been sitting in our closet since then. Why? Because I hate the fabric I picked out. 100% my fault. I went fabric shopping with her having the idea that I wanted white linen and wha I picked is...well, not quite that. My in-laws are visiting this weekend so my husband and FiL put up the curtains. I think they look terrible because of the fabric I picked out. I'm so frustrated with myself. She put a lot of hard work into the project and she did a great job, it just really sucks that I hate them...and it's all my fault. Oh well. I'd never say that to anyone so it will just be a secret that I live with. I'll just try to think of the love that went into making them rather than focus on the negative.

I completely understand! I am really not good at picking out colors or home fashion in general, but I also can't give up control and let others do it.
We got married like 2 years ago and now that we finally have a house and a queen sized bed, we've just started using some wedding gifts that I chose and registered for. I'm kind of regretting my bathroom towel choices bc they wouldn't be my first choices now. I'm thankful that our bedding actually looks pretty nice.
I'm also having some regret on some of the paint colors I picked when we had a lot of the house painted before we moved in. At least they are neutral though so I don't hate them, just a little blah...

Triple latte, I have a nespresso machine and steamer and lately I've needed a latte every morning, regular coffee just wasn't doing.
