Re: Randoms/Chatter week of 1.9.17

  • Ok so went to my doctor last week. She seemed kind of tuned out, she listened to me and answered my questions. Turns out she's leaving. Sad! However I asked her about my headaches and what I could do. She said Tylenol and caffeine, which I felt kind of irritated about bc I don't usually even take Tylenol or drink caffeine. Maybe that's why she felt they would be ok? And she gave me a prescription for something with Tylenol, codeine and some other stuff but I got a rash from codeine so maybe that's why she said not to take it much. Idk just an overall disappointing appointment.

  • @morgarita I know it's frustrating not getting the answers you were expecting from your doctor. But really, Tylenol and moderate amounts of caffeine are legit ways to help a headache, and totally safe during pregnancy. Were you wanting a more natural remedy? I also rarely take Tylenol or any medication. Pregnancy is kind of the only time I do. The headaches are no joke, and there are so many other aches and pains associated with pregnancy that it's good to have some on hand. I would also skip the Tylenol/codeine prescription unless you were really desperate and regular Tylenol wasn't helping.

@morgarita - I too had massive headaches in the first trimester and didn't want to take anything.  I rarely take medication when not pregnant.  Like @adabyron pointed out - Upping the caffeine helped me the most - I had developed an aversion to coffee and a poster (I forget who) recommended Coca-Cola which I rarely drink - but man it helped with the all day headaches.  My CNM recommended eating a little protein every two hours - cubes of chicken etc that you carry around and don't have to think about.  This helped a little because with the nausea I wasn't eating regularly.  I also gave in to taking a short nap to try and sleep it off - this helped a little too.  Other posters (I forget who) recommended magnesium and Riboflavin supplements as helpful.

    Edit: word order
  • guys - there's a girl in August's UO that just said she smokes pot daily while pregnant to deal with MS...I can't.

  • @AdaByron I didn't think of it as being frustrated with the answers but I think your right I wanted a more take more vitamin d approach. I was thinking it was her lack of enthusiasm this appointment but I totally get why she's checked out.
@caribbeanmama we have coke in our fridge right now which is rare the protein seems like a good idea as I think back to my diet. I had asked specifically about magnesium bc I've heard it menyioned a lot and she kinda skipped over it.

  • Does anyone else have their anatomy scan scheduled already? Mine is in 2 weeks, so 17w3d, and it seems so early! Like they seem to be just starting them on the June board...

@Rae1 I read that thread! Also the one who said everyone should have more than one child cause "only child syndrome ruins people"

    Edit: fix gif
  • @Rae1 I had to go read that thread.  That shiz makes me so mad.  A friend of DH's ex wife smoked/consumed pot every day of her pregnancy with their DS. He was born 10 weeks early with a ton of problems.  She ended up going to jail because of other drug problems.  That alone has convinced me to never smoke or do drugs.  Also, I know that the weed didn't cause all of his problems but definitely contributed to them.

@morgarita - That stinks that she's leaving. I love my OB so if you'd like her information let me know. I believe we live near each other.

  • @GlitterFish I have mine schedule for Jan 25, which will make me 16w4d for that appointment. But my clinic also does two, an early one and one at 20-22 weeks. I also did a NT scan last week and saw legs, arms, feet, so it will prob be fine.
  • I got results from the thyroid panel and everything is normal. Wonder why it was originally out of the norm. I am relieved though!

DH is insisting I call to request NIPT. I'm 12w 3d. I was sure he agreed it wasn't necessary (33 yr old) but now he's asking me about it saying he thought we agreed to do that. Ugh.

Last random thing... Frostbite....  My fingers are being eaten away aaaaahhhh.

My friend's girlfriend is a genetic counselor and she told me jokingly of course that heroine for example is not harmful to the fetus lol! It will be born an addict but that's it! Ha ha ha. It's true but so disturbing. I don't recall her thoughts on weed. I'm not into any of that stuff or even alcohol. My drug of choice is caffeine lol. Which I limit of course.

@SaphireSweetie88 I'm meeting her partner next month. Hopefully that works cause the clinic is 5 minutes from my house. If not I'll be pming you. Our insurance covers froedtert not aurora.

@GlitterFish just scheduled mine today! For February 13th, 20 weeks for me. I've always heard 18-20 weeks but I guess they know best right?
  • @GlitterFish I'll probably get mine either at my next visit, which will be 17 weeks on February 1st, but it isn't far off the norm. I had my last anatomy scan for my daughter at 18 weeks. If I don't get it on the 1st, it will probably be scheduled for the middle of February, which would be an awesome birthday present! My birthday is on the 18th, so I would probably have them write it down, and seal it up along with any accompanying pictures.

Mine is scheduled for February 17! Crazy how fast it is approaching.
  • @GlitterFish @Rae1 my good friend who's an OB says that a level II ultrasound (anatomy scan) at 17 weeks can often work, but the odds of needing a call-back because something was hard to see is a lot higher than waiting for >18 weeks. Doesn't mean anything's wrong, just harder to see. Hoping you'll get everything you need with yours!!

  • @kghusker1003 oooooh, love me some Pepperjax! I haven't had their philly yet, but I do eat an embarrassing amount of their ranch dressing every time I'm there... :#

15 vials??! Holy crap! I think they only took 3 from me.
  • @SPurp13 LOL.  DH has all the stereotypical attributes of an only child, except he has a younger sister.  I haven't figured out how that happened yet.
  • DH is my favorite person in the world, by far.

Me: I am just so glad DS isn't going to be an only child.
    DH: I'm an only child!
Me: I know, love. Like I said...

    Sorrynotsorry!

@SPurp13 your response about being an Only made me laugh!

I always say I'm the worst of both being an Only and the baby of the family. My brother is 9 years older. It makes DH feel better anyway ;)

They took about the same amount from me too (I couldn't count but much more than ten), and I didn't even need the heritage panel this time (took 14 vials when I did it).

  • I will have to say Im jealous of all you ladies getting ultrasounds in the next month. Mine wont be until end of March because my dr office doesnt like doing them until 22-24 weeks. So the soonest they would do it is March 27th.

My random is I wish mother natute would make up her mind in Ohio. We keep switching from below zero windchills and single digit temps to 50+ degrees. One or the other! I have a feeling we will have yet another year with no spring and have the heat start early.

Well, I'm a giant asshole, and I'm also an only child, but I actually don't think the two are related. Well. They probably are in my case, so nevermind, but that's due to bad parenting.
    @SPurp13
Haha! It definitely comes down to parenting! Not all only kids are brats and not all kids with siblings aren't. I think it was more her point that everyone should have more than 1 kid that pissed me off. Who has an opinion on how many kids I decide to have or not have?!
  • Lol only child, I am an only child, from a line of three only children, and my DH is basically an only child (brother 15 years apart). I've wondered if I'm the way I am from being an only child, but honestly I think it's just my personality. I never wanted a sibling (actually expressed that a lot as a kid, and still don't miss it) but I want to have 5 of my own so they are never lonely and I have a big family. Go figure that one out. FTM so we'll see if after having one I still want to go through this a potential of 4 more times.

  • So random but I just love watching cops.

  • @Itsnotyourturn Love cops!

I'm watching Say Yes to the Dress right now while DS naps and I want o scream at these 'loved ones' who are acting like total asses. So you don't like their choice in dresses... who gives a shit?! Pick the dress you like for your own damn wedding! I get if there is a major issue and a loved one wants to make sure you see the flaw, but when the bride is glowing and in love with it, can't they just fake it?!
  • I'm also so jealous of those who already have their scan set. Mine won't be for another six or seven weeks, and it's killing me! I'm so anxious to see little one and know if baby is a boy or girl. Once we know, we'll be able to start planning more.

Hobestly, I'm very anxious to be further along with my pregnancy. I want a little bump and to be closer to my third trimester. I'm trying to relax and enjoy the journey, but I'm just so excited!
  • @JulyBaby17 I am the complete opposite. If everything could just slow down. We don't have much to get ready tho and are going to figure it out when baby gets here so I do get the planning aspect.
  • I have all of my appointments set - does anyone else? They went ahead and scheduled them at my first appointment. My anatomy scan is 2/20.
  • I have my anatomy scan scheduled for 2/14! I'll be 20w2d then. I'm a little jealous of those doing it sooner lol. @ginger1228 I don't have all my appointments scheduled, though. We've only been doing one at a time
