So I see you are from Duluth? I grew up across the bridge! It is supposed to get ridiculously cold up there this week. Here too....Mpls was so not far enough...I need to move again!
Yup - we moved up here about 7 years ago now from the Chicago area. I was so nervous that we'd freeze to death that first year, but it wasn't that bad. Now, after baby (I'd nicknamed him my onboard heater when I was pg) I'm freezing all the time!! I admit - I'm tired of the cold, but I do love it up here. I remember - one year a friend sent a news article about the winter carnival in the cities, and it gave the mean temperatures for the winter - they were a good 10 degrees warmer than in Duluth! Argh!

It is a nice area! I really, really miss the lake and the Lakewalk in Canal Park, but the jobs are just really lacking up there. You would think after growing up around there I would be used to the cold but I just can't get used to this. Chicago must have at least been a little warmer. What brought you this far north?
Chicago was warmer, but it was also more wet, so it often was that bone-chilling cold.
We love the lakewalk, and all of the outdoor activities there are up here! For that, it can't be beat - we do miss having good restaurant options, though! We moved here for my DH's job. He was originally in theater, and he had to go where the job offer came from. I don't know if you ever went to the Duluth Playhouse when you lived in the area - we actually both worked there when we first moved up.
I hear you on the lack of jobs, though. DH is currently a SAHD for that very reason. Is that why you ended up moving to Mpls? I'm hoping it won't come to that for us.

I have def heard of the Duluth Playhouse! I was in theater in high school and have been to quite a few shows there!
We did end up moving down here because of the jobs. My dh was let go from Maurices corporate office because they outsourced his position and I was working a crappy retail job. Since we moved down here we both have found pretty great jobs and it stinks we can't have those same jobs up there because the housing market it so much cheaper up there! Hopefully you guys will not have to move- it is honestly a great place to raise a family.
Your DH worked for Maurices?! A friend of ours used to work there - they moved recently. Small world. Yeah - Duluth really needs to expand its job market - it makes it hard to stay here unless you have some sort of medical background, are able to work for the university, or accounting (I'm in the last group, because I got tired of being unable to apply for all the accounting jobs I constantly saw in the want ads).
