What are you reading?

Re: What are you reading?

  • *sigh* I wish I read for fun as much as I used to.  Right now it's all I can do to read my way through some of the pregnancy/labor/parenting books my SIL gave me.  I'm in the middle of "Birthing From Within" right now and there are some real gems of wisdom in there.  Hoping to have a chance to re-read it and "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth" before April!

My 2 faves were Spiritual Midwifery by Ina May and Gentle Birth, Gentle Mother.

  • For pregnancy/birthing books, I always recommend Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy.  So hilarious!

  • @schef070911 I feel like I'm in the same boat as you. I do love to read, but I feel like my nightstand is currently buried in baby/birthing type books. I've got Happiest Baby on the Block, The Bradley Method, Ina May, and Babywise all partially read and waiting to be finished. I'm not sure if any of them are the exact right program for us, but I figure the more I read, the more tidbits I can pick up and use as they seem to fit for us. I'm looking at it as developing a bag of tricks to pull from.

Yep! This is exactly how I feel about it.  :)

  • I miss reading!  I just don't have any energy or time by the end of the day.   We went on a week long vacation a year ago and I reread the entire Harry Potter series.  Best week ever haha.  I bought myself The Book Thief for Christmas, so I'm hoping to finish it before the end of the year.

  • I'm currently reading The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy and listening to Ina May's Guide to Breastfeeding and Let Them Eat Dirt: How Microbes Can Make Your Child Healthier. I'm also partially through Stress-Free Feeding and Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. My bookclub book for this month was The Happiness Project, which is one of my favorite books. Another book I've recently finished was First Bite: How We Learn to Eat, Child of Mine (see a theme here?).

  • For baby books, I enjoyed Bringing Up Bebe. Some of it I took with a grain of salt. It a fun read. The recipes are neat.

Maybe some of us could start a book together?
  • @SnarkasaurusRex how are you liking The Girl on the Train? We read that a few months ago for my bookclub. I liked it, but I thought it was tough to get through, just from her depression and issues--it was hard to be in her head for most of the book. I heard the movie was really good.
I like it, but I can't stay in her head for too long because it gets so depressing. Given that I've had some social anxiety/depression issues with the past, a lot of her baggage resonates with me and really throws me off. It's been taking me a while to get through it, whereas other books in that genre (like Gone Girl) I can read in a day or two.

  • @SnarkasaurusRex @MWoodside I agree, I kept having to put it down and taking a break because it was wearing me down. It made me impressed by her writing though. I loved the ending.

  • I have done a lot of reading recently because I was on holiday break and have had three snow days from work! My recent favorites have been A Man Called Ove and Small Great Things. Both were very good!
  • @mrsberg Not the same as a book, but we just rented the movie of A Man Called Ove and we're gonna watch it tonight! I didn't realize it was a book.
  • @mrsberg I adored A Man Called Ove!! I read the newer one, Britt Marie Was Here, and enjoyed it too.

@jennielynn+ I found Bringing Up Bebe in our neighborhood's tiny library. I'm looking forward to reading it!

  • I finished Six of Crows last night and it was super good! I'm going to get the sequel Crooked Kingdom from the library tomorrow since I have time to squeeze it in before my February book club book.
