STM+ C section scar pain?

Holy hell. Any STM+ with previous c section have experience with their scar area being painful/pulling? I'm assuming it's totally normal but today it's really intense...does it go away? Get worse as you grow?

The middle and right half of my scar is keloided. My body tends to keloid scars no matter what I do...awesome. I don't know if that makes a difference with the pain/pulling.

Re: STM+ C section scar pain?

  • Mine hasn't bothered me one bit since surgery but I think I might have had the unicorn of C-sections and recovery... my scar is almost non-existent, completely faded and the pain was so minimal I just took motrin.

It may have more to do with how recent your last one was... isn't your DS fairly young?  My twins are almost 4 yo, so that probably has more to do with it than anything else.

  • Oh man, my recovery was so tough. But I was on strict bedrest for 10 weeks prior to my c section so I know that's why my recovery was crazy tough. DS is 21 months old (born April 2015) so I suppose these pregnancies are kinda close! That would make sense...I'm glad your recovery was amazing! I wouldn't wish mine on anyone!

  • My c-section scar was perfect, then 4 months later it keloided like crazy. I haven't had pain (last pregnancy was 16 months ago), but it has been itching a lot throughout this pregnancy. Pretty sure I've only made the scar worse.
  • FTM here, but my surgery scars (from abdominal surgeries not c section) cause me a lot of pulling and stretching pain right now. My doctors all say it's perfectly normal
  • I just called my OB about this! She said it's totally normal because scar tissue doesn't have as much elasticity as skin, but is stretching. The pain comes and goes for me. I'm 18 weeks, DD is 14 months old and my scar is keloided as well.
  • My DD is almost 4 (in March) and my c section scar healed really well too. It hasn't bothered me at all but it's recently it's been really itchy.

  • I had a c section with my first and my scar bothered me a lot when I was pregnant with my second! It hasn't bothered me at all this time.  I must be already all stretched out lol.
  • Mine bothered me up until a few weeks ago, but for some reason it isn't a problem anymore. Maybe it will get better!

  • Well at least I'm in good company! @lifeislove87 I also have had my appendix and gallbladder removed but those scars didn't bother me in my first pregnancy or this one...just my c section scar.
Any use any creams that helped? I have a mixture of coconut oil, shea butter and vit. E oil that hasn't seem to help much. Figuring this is just how it is! Hoping it either comes and goes...or just goes too.

  • I haven't noticed anything externally but my DD is over 4 years old so it is an older scar.  Internally I've been feeling some weird pains but not sure if it's scar related or just general stretching.

  • With my second pregnancy my scar started hurting at 20+ weeks. For this pregnancy it is SUPER painful. At my 20 week US I will be checked for placenta accretia, which can be excruciatingly painful. I'm only 14 weeks and should not have this much main. It may be something to ask your dr about.
  • So I haven't had a c-section, but my SIL had 4.  She did say it would hurt from time to time as baby grew, but what really bothered her was how badly the area would itch (mostly in the third tri). Good luck to all of you!  I don't envy the process you went through during delivery with your prior LOs.  I salute you.  I am a wuss and while I know I would do it in a heartbeat if my baby was in danger, c-section scares the crap out of me.
  • I've had 3 csections and have never had any scar pain.  All my deliveries are 1.5-2yrs apart.
