I'm tired of the red tape

We called the beginning of December for Chris to be evaluated by EI.  They came with a SLP and and OT on the 23rd.  They reccomended that he be evaluated by a PT.  I've called every day since the 29th and still am waiting to get the PT eval done.  Why must there be so much freaking red tape to give my kid the services he needs?

Re: I'm tired of the red tape

  • We have been lucky enough to never have had this problem, our team is on the ball.  Sorry to hear your frustration but I hear this is the problem more often then not.

Maybe your pedi office could call and speed things up?

  • That sucks, we've always had all of the eval's done within a day or two of each other. Have you tried calling the coordinator? Are you able to have the results/staffing meeting prior to the PT eval, then have it added later? (I'm not sure how the process works in other areas)

I am calling the coordinator.  I left the message today that I was going to start more than once daily phone calls soon if we don't get things sped up.  They wanted to do the eval before the IFSP.  It is just so freaking frustrating!

  • Sorry to hear that you are going through this!  I used to work in EI here in CT.  At times our agency was "famous" for some of these things- a big reason I left.  I used to tell families to call the director of the agency.  If that doesn't get you there call the state coordinator- here in CT Birth to Three is run by the Dept of Developmental Services, so you'd call the coordinator for your region who is a part of the "parent" agency and if that doesn't work- call the top dog-whomever is in charge of all of EI.

Also, read your procedural safeguards that they gave you.  There is a time frame for holding an IFSP- I can't remember how long they give.  Also, send emails if you can- then you have documentation of your contact attempts.

I hope things speed up for you!!  Your son is lucky to have such an advocate for a mom :)

    Good Luck!

  • In Illinois the time frame  is 60 school days. That is about standard I think- the school districts like to take their time because that is less money that they will have spend. Sorry to say that but it sucks I know.
  • I'm sorry that you're dealing with this, it does sound completely frustrating.  I hope they do the PT eval soon.  Hang in there!
