I took my kids to the library over break and picked up a couple of the Stephanie Plum novels to re-read before downloading the newest one. Not sure what I'll read when they're finished.

I love reading. I didn't quite read 30 books last year which was disappointing. I used to read 65 books a year or so but I don't think I'll ever be able to do that again after baby is here! I picked up Heartless by Marissa Meyer because I enjoyed her Lunar Chronicles series, but it's a little too YA for me. I'm also reading book 8 in the Lord Peter Whimsey series by Dorothy L Sayers. Love British mystery. I don't have a lot lined up on my reading list because I'm having a hard time finding books that keep me interested. I'm reading two nonfiction though by Brennan Manning and Emily Freeman respectively, and looking forward to one by Jennie Allen coming out on the 31st.

I should look into the Stephanie Plum. I keep hearing good things.

My goal is to read 52 books each year. My last book of 2016 was Ghettoside, a nonfiction book about policing in LA, which was good but not a favorite. I'm on Goodreads if anyone wants to be friends!

I am currently reading the 14th colony by Steve Berry and am enjoying it. I was hoping to have it done before new years, but was unsuccessful. I should be able to finish this week and have no idea what I want to read next. Probably something less serious...

I am in a book club. This months book is Devil in the White City. I'm hating it. So much so that book club is Friday and I'm only half way through the 2nd chapter. I'm also reading Trigger Warning. It's a collection of short stories by Neil Gaiman. I LOVE Gaiman and Dean Koontz.

I'm really looking forward to night feedings. With DS I would just pull out my Kindle and read while he ate. No need to turn on any lights and wake DH up because the Kindle lights itself. I got through so many books.

I miss reading books that are longer than 2 sentences a page! With 4 kids under 6 reading a book is impossible. I read a book a couple years ago on a baby moon weekend! It was soo relaxing sitting by the river reading while my husband fished

. I use to read a lot on my night shifts about 5 years ago. I love Beverly Lewis and my Amish stories

I love to read but haven't picked up a good fiction book in a long time. I'm doing a pitiful job of picking my way through The Whole Brain Child and I'm planning to re-read my copy of Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Childbirth soon.

DS had me read "Llama Llama Red Pajama" seven times last night...does that count?

For me, I'm reading The Girl on the Train (I started it months ago and keep getting distracted by life) and Chip and Joanna Gaines' autobiography. Yep, I watch too much HGTV.

UO: I am not a fan of Chip and Joanna. They just annoy me. And I felt this way before the whole faux-controversy about their church being anti-gay (I mean, c'mon, they are devout Christians in Waco, TX. The odds that they are anti-gay is pretty damn high, and if someone thought otherwise they weren't thinking. Also, it's the only HGTV house-buying/selling show I've seen that hasn't had a gay or lesbian couple on it).

Fun fact: HGTV is the third most watched cable channel, so if you watch too much of it you are in good company.

Same with The Girl on the Train. I had just started it, when DH bought me the I just want to pee alone book and I find it way more funnier and interesting!

Their joking manners with each other remind me so much of me and DH. Except I'm more Chip and DH is more Joanna in that aspect.

I'm reading a snobby American History book called Setting the World Ablaze. The title is misleading because the author is way too snooty boots to make colonial history exciting. I have read better historians.

Now that it is the new year, I would love something fun to read. I'm going to look into some of the recommendations. I bought Devil in the White City at a used book store forever ago. I might start with that but, I kind of want something more lighthearted.

@SnarkasaurusRex We like to watch Fixer Upper too. I usually like the end results of their design aesthetic. The happy family of 6 crap, living on a picture perfect 40 farm can be a bit much. Have you googled what their farmhouse house looks like? With 4 kids...yeah right.

@jennielynn+ that's exactly my problem with them. everything's just too great. plus they spend so much time in the reveal on joanna's design choices when the home owners don't even get to keep that stuff unless they decide to buy it!

Also, a mystery: what joanna looks like without eyeliner.

Haha. Re: Chip and Joanna. That's the only HGTV show I watch. I don't think it's their fault everything looks perfect though. It's all in the editing. I'd like to read their biography, see where their hearts really are. DH thinks Chip is absolutely hilarious and I don't. Lol.

I just banged out a few books - I've picked up a lot of the popular ones but NO REGERTS! Just finished The Nightingale and All The Light We Cannot See - both excellent fiction based during WW2. Oh ya! And finished Those Girls - it was good, very graphic but exciting. I ran out of books but found The Revenant in my drawer - guess I bought it and totally forgot about it! 2016 was the year of chick books for me. I'll chalk The Revenant up to being my 2017 book

I've been so bad since DD was born. I try to pick up books before turning on the TV but I often fall asleep OR I get so sucked in, I read all night long and then I'm pooped.

If you like WWII books @super_sam03, have you read the Winter of the World Series by Ken Follet? He's one of my favorite authors but be ready for a long haul...once I start one of his series, I can't put them down.

I'm in a book club and we're reading The Liar's Club by Mary Karr right now. I'm fairly indifferent so far.

RE: Chip/Jo Jo...I pretty much aspire to be them. Except my DH doesn't know how a hammer works. Dream big, right?

I'm on book 5 of the Maggie Hope series! It's historical fiction set during WWII and you can tell the author spent a lot of time on her research.

@thecavfamily you heard Tarek and Christina split, right? Hgtv was still airing these family Christmas ads with them even after the news broke. It was odd. (Also I think you mean flip or flop).

@catem07 @thecavfamily I never thought the two of them were a good match at all. When I told DH that they'd split, he had the same reaction as me - "Finally!" They just didn't even seem to like each other half of the time to me.

My mom, on the other hand, penned a Facebook post about how "true love is dead!" because they were splitting up. Nah. If Chip in JoJo split up, THAT would be a different story.

I wanted to read their book because I find what they've been able to accomplish to be pretty amazing. Plus, Joanna has my design aesthetic down to a T, so even though I know the show is just a little too perfect, I still love it.

I know they got a lot of flack for their pastor being anti-gay, but, like @catem07 it's not surprising given where they are. I'd be more upset about it if they were off spouting hate speech or actively discriminating against gays, which doesn't seem to be the case. I'm all for people living their own lives and believing what they want as long as they're not being jackwagons about it.

Random, but a friend of a friend was on the show and she did a little Q&A about it, and she said that they were told up front that a lot of the staging materials wouldn't stay in the house unless they wanted to purchase them, but they also had a chunk of the budget that was reserved for stuff they definitely wanted to keep (furniture, artwork, decor, etc.). She actually said that she was glad when a lot of the staging stuff left because it was a little "too country" for them and she was happy to get her own stuff back in there.

*Sigh* I miss reading. I used to love to read. I could devour books. Ever since DD came around the only book I have time for is my bible. And even at that I'm only reading a 10 minute devotional on Bible gateway everyday on my phone.
But I used to love the Stephanie Plum books @Beckyf321

It took me almost a year to finish All The Light We Cannot See - it progressed super slowly and I always ended up getting a couple chapters in and not touching it again for weeks. I'm stubborn so I finished it. The story as a whole was good but it was a tough read, for sure!

Definitely going to be watching this thread for ideas for my next reads! I love to read but sadly don't get to as often as I like since by the time I get the free time to in the evenings I'm too dang tired haha!

Currently on my bedside table that I've been slowly working through is Jodi Picoult's new book Small Great Things. It is so good I wish I had the energy to stay awake and read more at once!

The best fiction I've read in recent history were A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, People of the Book, and Life After Life (warning: a bit graphic). All highly recommended.

*sigh* I wish I read for fun as much as I used to. Right now it's all I can do to read my way through some of the pregnancy/labor/parenting books my SIL gave me. I'm in the middle of "Birthing From Within" right now and there are some real gems of wisdom in there. Hoping to have a chance to re-read it and "Ina May's Guide to Childbirth" before April!

@SnarkasaurusRex how are you liking The Girl on the Train? We read that a few months ago for my bookclub. I liked it, but I thought it was tough to get through, just from her depression and issues--it was hard to be in her head for most of the book. I heard the movie was really good.

I love reading, but I never seem to have time anymore. I used to go through books like it was nothing. Right now I'm reading the 3rd Outlander book, Voyager. I've been reading Anna Karenina for like 4-5 yrs (not kidding, it's great but just very dense in some spots...have to be in the right mood), and I started The Fifth Wave because I liked the movie and want to see how the series ends.
