Applecheeks + Total number of Covers in Stash

So hey, I am almost done with my ENTIRE STASH and I admittedly went overboard a bit with covers bc I didnt want to just have a single cover in each colour, so I tried to simplify by buying in 4s.  haha.  I sold off half my prints, so now my prints are just in 2s and my OS solid covers are in 4s (grey, white, grasshopper, kiss -all flips)  I still wanted to have a pale blue in there, maybe a yellow, and now I am reaizing its just so. many. covers.

Any btdts have advice on how many covers is too many?  I also wanted to use some wool babee greens/sloomb underwoolies/ playwoolies for daytime maybe, which means, how often am I actually going to reach for the pul over the wool?

Which brings me to my MAIN QUESTION is what do people tnink about the applecheeks envelope covers?  I have all prefolds and flips bc they were cheaper, heard mostly good things, "keep it simple," I thought: Bam.  dunzo.   but now I'm wondering if the Applecheeks may really be worth the price?  vs flips?  like if it made sense to swap out even 4 flips for 3 applecheeks in whatever colour would be basically the same $$$ (except I scored most of the flips on sale).  or even 4 flips for 2 applecheeks in whatever colour?  I have zero Applecheeks yet, and before I go buying 4 in a pop of those, (yikes) which feels a little like jumping off the deep end, if I should slow my roll and re-adjust my stash.

Current size 2 covers:

(2) Blueberry capris - bears
(2) Blueberry capris - foxes
(2) Thirsties duo - woodland
(2) Thirsties duo - blackbird
(2) Thirsties duo - oak & acorn
= 10 prints

(4) Flips - white
(4) Flips - grey
(4) Flips - grasshopper
(4) Flips - kiss
= 16 solids

Wanted to add (4) flips in mirror/moonbeam, or (4) applecheeks in a pale blue... and or (4) in a yellow.  if I add 8 more solids, that puts me at 10 prints + 24 solids = 34 total.  plus there's another very special print I found in a different brand that I'd love to get a pair, for 12+24=36 which obviously I feel like nobody needs that many covers.

Have I gone insane?  Are the Applecheeks worth trying a few?  are they worth converting all my Flips?  or keeping a mix?  do I need to seriously consider cutting back to 12+12 MAX??? Or the more, the merrier?

halp.

I never liked Flips, but I have and like the few AC covers I have.  I generally use the AC as pockets but they can just as easily be used as covers.  I have also used wool a few times.  Wool for nighttime can easily cause you to never grab a PUL cover again (not guaranteed though as I don't wool often currently)  I gave up wool as a diaper cover when ds outgrew the ones I had at a time where he was having GI issues.

Since Flips and Thirsties Duos (my current favorite) can be used multiple times, I would reduce your stash down to just one, maybe two of special ones, of each color/print before deciding whether to purchase AC or wool or nothing more.

My current stash is 10 wipeable PUL covers and 8-10 (I need to count) pockets which includes the AC covers.

If you do decide you want to give AC a try, join the AC bst group - but be forewarned, some of the stashes there can make your current Flip stash feel small.

@PipSqueak0313. Thanks for the input!  Yes, I already cut the prints down to twos and they all feel soecial to me!  Lol. The blueberry ones are both I feel like a little bit rare, so even if I keep all those, that's just 12 of the duos/capris.  There is a part of me thats tempted to either drop one color of flips or else one of each colour so it goes from 16->12 flips, and then if theres 3-4 colours of AC I feel like I love, do the same, so Id have 12 /12/12.  Its still as many as 36 covers, but at least its balanced that way, and I can maybe just wait and see how I feel about the flips bevore getting rid of them entirely?

Is that kinda along the lines of what you're saying?  I just really didnt want to end up with a stash of a million single "mixed up" covers. :/ Maybe I'm just being boring/weird though!  Lol

Where is the AC BST group?  On here or on fb?

@PipSqueak0313. Ah!  It just dawned on me!  How are people saying they just use them as covers of they are non-wipeable???  Are they still just single-use, even over a prefold?

Eta it's dawning on me I might rather have more sweetpea covers, but the OS.  I already have 8 of their nb along with duos and capris...

The BST is on Facebook (along with Peace, Love, Applecheeks which is a chat group)

If you use the Applecheeks like an AI2 (with an insert/prefold/flat on top) then you need enough absorbency to keep the fleece from getting wet.

For what you have now, that's a lot of covers! If you want that many, that's fine, but you definitely don't need them all. Most recommendations I've seen say something like 24 diapers (prefolds, flats or fitteds) and six covers (assuming a wash routine of every other day). I've also seen recommendations that say 3 to 1 or 4 to 1 diapers to covers. Either way, you have a lot! The applecheeks are not a cover. They're a type of pocket diaper. So you will have to wash them every time you use them so you'd need more if you had just those or are using them often. I wouldn't get the applecheeks, just because I don't want to have this other kind of diaper. And I'm not a fan of pockets. This is all personal choice however.  I wouldn't get a bunch unless you know you like them.

Also, I'd get rid of some of the covers. I just don't have the inclination to keep that many around and organized if I don't need them. I don't understand needing to have pairs of each print. Prints are fun, sure, but ... it's a diaper.

@lovesclimbing Thanks for your input!  Yeah, I'm definitely trying to slow my roll, and looking forward to using the stuff myself to help me better decide what specifically to keep and what to let go of...  I decided not to get the applecheeks, but did get a few sweetpea OS covers just to compare with the flips.  Not sure why I didn't think of that sooner!  You're right too, is just a diaper. ;)

I am not a psych major, but I think it's safe to say I used fluff-therapy as a way of processing our ttc struggles... taking the gaping hole in my heart, and throwing in diapers where an actual baby should be.  It all feels pretty pathetically transparent when it gets right down to it. :/

And it's definitely fun to start buying baby stuff.  :D  I'm naturally a very thrifty person on top of choosing to use cloth specifically to save money, so my diaper collection will definitely be on the smaller side of what's needed.

@lovesclimbing  yeah, that makes sense ;)

I was like, oh prefolds and covers are simpler, better fit to prevent leaks etc, economical... until I read how much everyone LOVES their Geffen prefolds and always grabs those first.  I felt like I had the chance to take my time and not to end up building a mis-matched stash, so why not just start with those!?  So pair that with closer to a 2:1 prefold to cover ratio - that's if you count ALL the prefolds larger than newborn size - I 100% could have built a stash of even high-end AIOs for the same or less!  I like to think I still prefer the benefits of using prefolds+covers, and just a few mostly promo aios for the diaperbag or emergencies, but still.  Where the budget tipping point happened was definitely somewhere along the way with my covers... ;)

I may try unloading one of each colour solid I have - might make a nice little mini- or starter- stash of 6 for someone out there, and then switch to 3s for my last two colors.  That way I would still have all 8 colours I wanted, total 24 solids, just in 3s instead of 4s...

    Colours I have:
