Hashimoto's/Thyroid Issues

Hi everyone.

This is my first time commenting so I'm a little nervous.

This is my first pregnancy and I'm 34, but will be 35 when I have the baby in August.

I'm worried about being an older first-time mommy, but also because I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. I've been trying to get as much information as I can about having a thyroid problem, and I've been advised by my endo that I need to take more of my meds  (Synthroid & Cytomil) and have check-ups and bloodwork done monthly to keep an eye on my levels.

I also realize that having a thyroid problem, I'm at a higher risk for a miscarriage, and that's worrying and scaring me the most. I'm praying that everything will be fine and trying to not think about that.

Do any of you out the have thyroid issues and how are you doing with your pregnancies?

Thanks for reading!
This was a total shock, so I'm not at all prepared for anything yet ;)

  • I have Hashimoto's (with Endometriosis). Try not to worry - it really only increases your chances if it's not treated. I'm on the same meds and get bloodwork monitoring. Hashimoto's is scary, it's an autoimmune disease, but you are on the meds you need to keep it from being a problem - just takes your meds! I keep mine bedside so I can take them first thing and not forget.
A side from that, I've had numerous friends who once Pregnant developed hypothyroidism, were treated with meds and went on to have healthy Pregnancies.
    Hope that helps

  • Hi - I have hashimoto's as well and two healthy children, but have had three early losses as well. I don't think you have to worry about much now - just take your meds and get your blood tested as previous poster's mentioned. Miscarriages are usually the result of a problem with the egg/fetus and that is in God's hands at this point for all of us. At least that is what I am telling myself - stick, baby, stick!

  • Never been formally diagnosed with Hashis but my mom had it and I have to get checked all the time because I have hundreds of goiters and nodules on my thyroid. I have had 1 previous MC and 1 healthy pregnancy. Fingers crossed everything goes well for you.

  • I have hashimotos as well. Don't try to stress. Just keep taking your meds, my doc said as soon as i see the bfp, up my dosage by 2pills a week. You'll need to get blood work done right away to see where your levels are, and keep that monitored.  I'm going in every 4 weeks, and she'll adjust me as we go. Good luck!

  • Did think so many of us would know we have Hashis! I do as well (Dx at 18 years old so I've been fully aware I may have issues conceiving) but we got pregnant our first month of trying and I'm at 7 weeks tomorrow with a healthy little squid-looking thing in me! I am on a high-end prenatal with Folate (not folic acid) but I believe that is because of my MTHFR, not hashis. Also still taking 25mcg of Levothyroxine and my levels last week were the best they've been in the past year. Just keep an eye on your levels and up your dosage if your doctor thinks you should and you should be fine.

  • I have hypothyroidism after having radiation to fix my graves disease.  Just take you thyroid meds and make sure you are getting you bloodwork checked regularly.  During pregnancy my OB no itors my thyroid levels instead of my endocrinologist.
