@NYCProf I thought I wasn't showing but was asked by a random guy working behind the counter at one of the lunch spots near my office if I pregnant... so maybe I am showing a lot more than I thought!
@michaela0704 Today is the first day I noticed my stomach is actually sticking out and it's hard and I can't really suck it in!! One awkward thing is that my boss keeps looking at my stomach!! She's the only one in my dept that knows besides the human resources lady. I feel uncomfortable when she looks down. She's an older woman (like late 50s), shouldn't she be more discreet, less excited? Also, I'm 38 and it just feels strange... Have I gotten so used to being not-pregnant and so stuck in my ways to just feel more normal, natural during this process?
Today I told an AP I work closely with and my principal. It's was awkward! For lack of a better word... They are both male and both seemed genuinely excited. I'm still not comfortable announcing to my dept.
I told human resources today. I went to ask her a bunch of other questions related to some of my employees and slipped it in at the end of our conversation. I manly told her so I could be reminded how much time off I will accrue between now and June. I told her to expect me to take all the time I had for maternity leave as well. She told me, "didn't you just pop a baby out a year ago?! You know how this happens right? You must be a fertile Myrtle." Um, ok, thanks? When I left her office, she yelled down the hall, "I won't tell anyone about what's happening to you in June but I also forgot to say congratulations." Thanks for the confidentiality, HR lady.
I told my boss and the girl I work with directly in the office. The rest I was going to just wait, but we were getting new office assignments today so I thought it might come up. I made one of those cheesy signs - AND NOT ONE PERSON GOT IT! So I guess I'm waiting to show again??? Lol

That's so offensive and rude!! I don't understand why anyone would say something like that. She's crazy. Sorry!

That's so cute! I thought about that as well but didn't want that extra attention, hugs and congratulations at the same time. I I also don't want any weird comments, questions, etc. I think I'll be showing when we return from break on January 2nd. Last day of work is next Wednesday. Ps I find it very odd that your coworkers didn't get it. Maybe they just thought you'd be gaining weight?lmao so funny!!
I told my boss awhile back, but I just told my department a couple days ago at our Christmas lunch. I was pleasantly surprised at the reaction. There was a moment of congratulations and everyone is excited because it's the first baby in the department in a really long time, but nobody got weird about it and nobody is treating me any differently. I was super nervous to tell, but ultimately I'm glad I did because I think it will actually be less weird now than coming back after break (today is my last day until 1/3!) and having people wonder but not wanting to ask.
@NYCProf One lady who was visiting the office to organize the desk assignments asked "Who is your baby?" I assume the others just think I already look like Santa???
Highly monitored internet and no cell service in the office, so I'm postin' and ghostin' while I'm workin'

You are too funny!!!!!!!! Hahaha Sometimes we just have to laugh!
One of our staff is a young mom and she was really excited. We have quite a few late 30's/early 40's unmarried/no kids members on our team. So I'm assuming they are glad for me but there's also that dynamic I'm sensitive to. When I first came on board there I was the only person in our small org who was married, besides the CEO. I've never worked with so many older singles.
@NYCProf I'm not sure if you were responding to me or not, but based on placement I'm going to guess you were (if not, just ignore me!). I have to say, yes, I am extremely lucky within my department. I think it's partially just working with a lot of no nonsense, but kind, biology/chemistry instructors. They're all pretty awesome. Now if only the administration that decides things like my leave would be even a tenth that supportive, I would be all set.
