I guess i could say that my little toy breed chorkie (Roxy) knew i was prego before i did. I found that out because the day i tested and it came out positive . she has been very spacious from me for a couple weeks before then as well as a week after i tested. Maybe i have a different smell? Anyways she has gotten alot better now and is quite cute. She has been trying to sleep right on my tummy all the time or right beside it. Whenever my husband come nears me she has her little growl. Hahaha. Maybe she is trying to protect my little belly that isnt showing yet. Has anyone else have this happen with them with their pets?

We adopted my mutt, Petra, when I was about 5 months pregnant with my first. She would lie with her head on my belly whenever possible. She quit doing that after my daughter, Jane, was born, but now she has been doing it again the past week or so. She knows! I guess dogs can smell the pregnancy hormones, or something. Petra doesn't growl, but she has been sulking whenever she wants to be on my lap but Jane is there.

Here are Petra and Jane. They are the absolute best of friends, and have been since day one!

  • We have 5 dogs (1 is a foster) and a cat and 5 out of the 6 are always right on top of or next to me. The smallest one sleeps on my stomach or as close to it as possible. They're usually awesome cuddle bugs but lately they've been like glue on me as soon as I walk in the door.
  • I have two cats. One is still a kitten so she is only aware of herself right now.

My older cat Tybalt though, he is a love. But he never snuggles next to me or sits in my lap, he just likes pets. Until I found out I was pregnant. Now when I lay down on my side he comes up, kneads gently on my belly, and then snuggles next to it purring. I love my guy!

  • I have one dog, but he has always been super attached to me. I haven't noticed any extra attention. I'm not sure if he could give me more attention though lol

  • My cat Bashful that never really cared for cuddles or being under the covers has been curling up next to me under the covers right by my belly. She started doing this like a day or two before I got my BFP. My other cat Ally at first became a bit more distant just before my BFP but has since started cuddling with me again. It's amazing how they can sense the change in our body.
  • My animals are clueless it would seem.  But when I was pregnant with my first I went over to my brothers house to let his huskies out. He was out of town and his now wife was working late. The younger male husky is wild and when I sat down he started to move like he was going to jump on my stomach. My brothers girl husky went all protective, knocked her brother out of the way and growled at him. She then began kissing my stomach and laid her head on it while tracking her brothers every move. She was usually very aloof with everyone but my brother so it was very sweet to see her protecting me and my baby that way.
  • My tiny little pekingese keeps demanding to sleep next to me and usually she sleeps by our feet. She also won't let the cat come anywhere near me. It's funny because the cat is bigger than she is.

  • I have 2 cats and a dog, and normally my dog jumps up on me but has refused to since I got my BFP. And one of my cats is usually extra cuddly, but he's been distant and avoids walking across my body the way he usually did. I hadn't thought about it much until just now, interesting!
  • It's not just cats and dogs! I ride horses and my favorite at the barn always drops his nose to my belly when I walk up to him. He did that with my first too! Also, my dog will not leave my side and my one cat constantly lies on me or next to me. The other cat is too stupid to notice anything!
  • Animals always know. There is a cool study that shows they try to create dominance over the baby to make sure they don't have to vie for resources. That's why it's so key to make sure that you create boundaries and introduce the baby as an alpha. It's amazing stuff!
