Trying to Get Pregnant

IF/Testing check-in Week Dec 12

This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility and it becomes a whole new ball game. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another.  Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say, and treat this like an ongoing conversation.

Diagnosis (If you've been):

Cycle/CD:

Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?)

How are things going?

Any questions?

  • @wabash15  This isn't my first treated cycle just my first one with this re. I was just seeing my gyn for a while who does Fertility did Femara and then closed both up to the 10mg nothing worked I did the goal for shot and those worked but ended up *tw* with a cp. I saw ano re who told me my only shot was I've. I am now seeing thisome re and said I wanted to try pills again since my periods are coming on their own now ( I used to have to take the medroxyprogesterone to start af). So we did that and it worked but only 1 follie on 5mg so if this comes up negative I'm sure they will up it. They didn't give me any instructions at all which is frustrating. I have been testing out my trigger though. Like I said I'm almost positive I'm out this cycle but I need the beta for my peace of mind. I had a dream of dancing pregnancy tests last night with faint lines. ugh.

  • @kaitlink33 Sorry your tests are being confusing.  How many dpo are you?
@wabash15 I'm so excited for you! I hope this week goes fast and your appointment goes well!!!

Diagnosis (If you've been): DH: ED

    Cycle/CD: 12/12

    Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):  TWW

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) b2b IUIs (gonal-f and ovidrel)

How are things going? These IUIs were worse than last month. Last cycle, both IUIs were a walk in the park, no pain, no spotting.  This time, first of all we had to be up at 5am for 6am IUIs. The first IUI wasn't that painful but I had some spotting afterwards.  The second IUI was downright awful.  He couldn't get the catheter into my cervix so he kept pressing and messing with the speculum.  It was not fun. Hopefully this is the last one we need!!

    Any questions? Nope

@antoto i just got home from having it done so I guess i'll know soon.  ETA: how common is it to see an indentation line on FRER?? I've never had it happen I've never even thought I've seen a line they have always been stark white.
@juliebeannn I'm about 12ish dpo (not entirely positive, I'm just guessing based on when I had my trigger shot)

  • @antoto ugh i did use the ones with the curved handle so I bet thats what I was seeing since it was barely noticeable. Thanks for the heads up, but I know the general rules I used to be on here all the time about a year ago and took a long hiatus then decided to come back the other day out of the blue.

  • @kaitlink33 Well I'm glad you came back <3  Do you know when they will call today?  I'm sending good vibes your way.
  • @antoto im not sure, they don't seem to be very good at that sometimes I usually have to be the one to call, but I have the online portal thing so it'll probably be on there before they call.

  • @kaitlink33 I hope your beta comes back positive!! at 12dpo, I'd say it's probably NOT your trigger anymore but some people metabolize it slower and it lingers into 13-14dpo.  But hopefully that's not the case for you!! FX for you!

  • @juliebeannn thanks! I have a feeling it won't since I have had some strong cramping the last 5 days or so as if AF is coming and the line was so very, very faint I am now thinking it may have been an indent like antoto said since I used the curved handle :( I know the trigger was still in my system up until saturday (12dpt) since the ic test was a very faint positive but they've been negative since yesterday so maybe they're more reliable.

  • FWIW @kaitlink33; indent/evap lines show up about 90% of the time (in my experience) if they're read outside the testing time frame. I've even tested this shortly after my period ended and they've still had lines (blue dye, FRER, wandfo). FX your RE call she you back soon with the results!
  • thanks @becky012016. I've never seen an indent and only had an evap on a blue dye test. I read the test right away and saw it then threw it in the trash and haven't looked since, but I just FEEL out so I think it probably was.

  • @antoto glad your feeling good so far!
@juliebeannn on two of my IUI's they could not get the catheter into my cervix and ended up having to grab my cervix with a tenaculum (basically a large clamp) to pull and manipulate my cervix so they could pass the catheter... OUCH that was not fun. Fx all the discomfort was worth it.

@juliebeannn sorry your iui was painful! Mine have always been quick and painless, but this last time the nurse seemed to be having difficulty so I hear ya! Hopefully we're both on our last iui!

  • @madspunk thank you! Did they say you aren't responding at all or just very little? Is this your first medicated cycle? Im just curious because when I first started trying with medicated cycles my body didn't respond to femara or clomid up to the highest dose of 10mg

  • @mrsdaddario Innnnteresting that he didn't have much to say.  I'll ask my RE the next time I see him too.  Maybe none of them know?  With how damn common PCOS is you think there would be studies on this!
  • *Question*
Sounds like most women are on some sort of progesterone supplementation during the TWW.  They tested mine last cycle on 4dpo and it was 13. My nurse said it was above 10 so no need for ovidrel booster (I guess this is what they do instead of progesterone supplements).  It sounds like my progesterone is on the lower side of normal, so think I should push to use the booster this cycle?  Can't hurt, can it?

@kaitlink33 Yes this is my first medicated cycle. I'm not responding at all. Good to know that I might just need a higher dose!

@mrsdaddario Thanks for the tip! I'm so excited to finally have someone who can give me tips since I don't know anyone IRL who can relate. I'll talk with the RE about that. I have a really high AMH level so they had already mentioned it might take more for me to respond.

@antoto I always wonder where all the PCOS studies are! It seems like there should be more.

    *Question*
Has anyone else had issues with really low estrogen levels? It seems like that's a side effect of Letrozole, but it seems strange that my estrogen level went down so much. It's only 20. The results just came in so I haven't discussed this with the RE yet.

  • @madspunk I didn't respond at all like I said to either med on the higher doses of either until I did the gonal f injectables and those got me going and where since then and losing some weight and coming off my metformin I'm growing follies with just the pills.
    NTNP since 2012

  • @madspunk Low estrogen is not unusual on Letrozole especially if you've needed to be on it for an extended period of time. My first round when I did a total of 10 days of 5mg and then 5 days of 7.5mg I ended up having mature follicles but my lining was still thin due to low estrogen. They put me on oral estrogen for the weekend and by Monday I was ready to go.
  • Diagnosis (If you've been): Potential scar tissue issues

    Cycle/CD: 19/24

    Status (WTO/TWW/TTA): TWW I guess

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) waiting

How are things going? Met with my RE today and feel discouraged. He said he disagrees with the HSG images looking good - he said based on my history (previous ruptured appendix) and the way the fluid flows in the images he still suspects scar tissue issues.

He still thinks the course to go is IVF and doesn't seem to offer alternatives based on what he has seen of me. He said all our numbers are fantastic but he thinks there is issue with scarring that make IUI or any other treatment risky/useless. This is a lot of hypothesis on his part and he says timing of when to do treatment is up to us. I guess paranoid me still worried it's a money-making scheme, but I also see what he is saying (and it has been 19 months TTC on our own with no BFP).

I have to take 30 days off "trying" to get the ruebella vaccine. I guess DH and I just have to talk and decide what to do. Our insurance does 100% cover IVF.

Any questions? Lots but not even sure how to articulate them. Sorry this was long.

  • @kyersten I'm sorry your RE was not optimistic about IUI being successful. Could you get a 2nd Opinion? Maybe its blind faith in people but I feel like most REs are not just in it for the money but really want to help people get pregnant.  That is amazing that IVF is 100% covered! hopefully the time off for your vaccine will give you and DH time to reflect and see what you want to do.

@mrsdaddario HOORAY for O on your own!!!! that is so amazing.

  • Diagnosis (If you've been): submucosal fibroid, mild MFI (morph)

    Cycle/CD: 19/12

    Status (WTO/TWW/TTA):  TTA

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?) Had my myomectomy surgery yesterday! All went well. Doctor said the fibroid was sitting right by my right tube so it's very possible it was hindering things!

How are things going? Just recovering today. Feeling optimistic for the first time in a long time.

  • @kyersten Sorry you got some discouraging news from the RE.  Is there any way they can confirm the scar tissue?  Maybe a saline sonogram?  I don't know much about them but I know our RE said that a saline sono would come after an HSG if the results of the HSG were iffy.  Maybe this 30 days of being benched will give you and your DH time to process this sudden possible jolt into IVF.  But it's great to hear that IVF is covered by your insurance.

  • @madspunk I also have NIR PCOS and had zero response to 5mg! I did it for a total of ten days (two-5 day sessions) with no response. Finally by CD 20 something they finally upped me to 7.5mg. I had two follicles pop immediately. If you go in again with no follicles at your next check up I would ask about increasing your dosage! GL!!

:anguished: Oh no, I'm on 2.5mg this cycle. What did my doc give me, Femara for ants??

Also, hey girl <3  I got the biggest temp spike and most prolonged temp rise of my TWWs ever with progesterone, but it was oral progesterone.  FX so hard for you it's a good omen for things to come!!

  • @kyersten I'm sorry you're feeling discouraged, totally understandable. I agree with @wabash15 that I have to believe RE's are out for the patient and finding the best option. If you get a weird vibe from yours then maybe a second opinion? I know going through the initial appt with another doctor is annoying, but worth it if you find someone you trust.

So I have a question myself...has anyone heard of and/or used any online pharmacy to purchase fertility drugs from? My insurance denied coverage for my Endometrin and the pharmacy said it's $700 out of pocket for each 30 day supply. That's way higher than I expected. My RE is looking into other off-brand options, but in the meantime DH found ivfpharmacy.com which offers Endometrin for much cheaper. It seems very weird to me to buy something like this online, but it does require a prescription. I don't know, I'm skeptical, but if it's saving me over $600 I figured I'd at least look into it. Wondering if anyone here has any experience?
  • @TravelingCouple I've used goodrx.com with great luck if you decide to go through a local pharmacy. For our IVF meds we're going through South Miami Fertility Pharmacy (we're in NC) because they're the cheapest after extensive research. I think if the website looks legit and you can find reviews online go for it!

  • @tamalahoops Thanks, it's nice to know you are buying online with success. I guess the skeptic in me thinks, what if it's black market ish that I'm shoving up my hoo-ha with these vaginal suppositories? Ha! ivfpharmacy is based in Israel so it's not even in the same country I live in. But it does have good reviews and has larger supplies than offered here for much less cost. MH is talking to our health insurance co to see if they have any recommendations. I'll check out goodrx.com too.
