Guys, I just found out they're about to open a doughnut bakery underneath my office.

Ha, enjoy! There's one right next to my OB's office. I've always thought that was a very clever and unfair business plan.

  • @happyhiker OMG that's a smart business move... go where you know the hungry pregnant women will be. I would be in there everyday after my appointments, ha ha!!!

  • @Happyhiker there's a place called "I love bagels" next to my ob... it is heaven and also a totally unfair business plan  :D
  • So before I go into this story, brief backstory... I do a lot of work from home, and we'd decided about 2 years ago to turn our guest room into my office. While I was away one day, he surprised me by going out and buying me a desk and getting the room all set up. He actually picked out an awesome desk, got me a second monitor, etc. The set up was awesome, it was a sweet gesture, and he felt really good and proud that he'd done something that made me happy.

Well, fast forward to a baby arriving in about 3 months... and because we live in a small apartment in the city, we've come to the conclusion that I'll have to lose my office and it'll become the baby's room, and I'll just do my work on the kitchen table (which we never use anyway. Unfortunately there's no space to the move the desk to another part of our apartment because there's no just no room. Because pregnant, my back has really started hurting because of the chair I've been using. It was never a problem before, but now I can't sit in it longer than hour without my back being in bits. I don't see the point of buying a new chair, because we're going to be turning the office into the baby's room once he's out of the bassinet in our room anyway. I mentioned to DH that I was thinking maybe we should sell the desk in the new year, because I'm just sitting on the couch working anyway because it's the only place I can get comfortable with my back and using the computer. He seems really sad about me losing the desk, and every time I bring up getting rid of it, he keeps trying to find ways to keep the desk.

I know he's doing this because here's this great thing he did for me and he wants me to be able to enjoy it (and also he seems to be a lot more attached to the desk than I am), but I don't see the point in keeping it anymore if I'm not even using it. I feel so bad like I'm hurting his feelings every time I bring it up!

  • @npaulie I'm sorry you'll be losing your space  :/ I know your husband did a great thing for you and you've taken the time to appreciate it, but he'll just have to understand that it's no longer practical. Hopefully he comes around and understands that selling the desk isn't a personal affront to him; it's about doing what's best at this point. And also, I feel you about sitting too long and having your back hurt. I do a lot of sitting at my job and I always start to feel a shooting pain in my shoulder blade after a while. I got a prenatal massage this past Monday and it was the best $65 I've spent in a while. Highly recommend one!
  • Within the last 3 months or so, I had a small black barstool that pretty much collected clothes when it was in our bedroom, so I moved it into the bathroom so it'd be a place for me to sit while I do my hair and makeup (my hair isn't even that long but boy, do my arms get tired!), and plus, my belly is already in the way of me leaning over the sink to get closer to the mirror! Just now I had to take it from the bathroom so I could have short sitting-breaks while I make some Christmas baking. Pregnancy can seriously be exhausting... I pretty much don't go anywhere outside my house unless I know there are plenty of things for me to lean/sit on!
  • I just called and re-scheduled my next midwife appointment a week later so it would fit with DDs naptime.  At first I figured I would just keep it as is, but this tired lady and her cranky toddler are NOT messing with naptime.

In the end it's also nice because it spaces them out a tiny bit more (I know, I know, they see you every two weeks for a reason, but I feel like I live at the place) and it'll help me not have an appointment the week between Christmas and New Years like I was supposed to.
  • @coconutkisses21 oh that's super cute!! Unfortunately the desk is all glass and super modern. It's also so big we couldn't fit both the mini crib and desk in there at the same time. :-/

  • Some chick on facebook just said that when her baby was born he was drinking 1-3 oz every 2-3 hours. How is that possible when at 1 day a baby's stomach is the size of a cherry and only holds a teaspoon?

And also considering that for the first couple of days all baby gets is colostrum, she's either forgetting what it was really like having a fresh newborn, or completely full of it.
  • @DizzyMom WOW!!! You've got some serious talent!!! Those look amazing!!

Truth. Babies drink about an ounce an hour. I have no idea about your size question, but that's the rule I've always heard when it comes to leaving pumped milk for carers. They drink even more in a growth spurt.

I will say that breast milk clears the stomach way fast so maybe that has something to do with it?

If you are nursing don't worry about the numbers though. Babies who are breastfed actually l9we weight at first. This is normal since milk.doesn't come on right away. For the first couple of days your baby is nursing colostrum. Then the milk train comences :)

*TW* - BFP & MC in March 2016.
BFP in June 2016; EDD March 2017.
    Samuel born February 2017!

  • I just got jury duty notice.  :|

It is for four different weeks from the beginning of January to the end of February.

Just.....no. I know I am not due until the end of March, but no. I am hoping they cut me some slack.
  • @longliveregina aw, lady. Feel better!
  • @thisisallyson that seems unfair, they selected you for 4 times? I hope you can get out of it!!!

Looking at the 10+ day weather forecast stresses me out. It's showing all these days with snow and ice accumulation and I freak out at the thought of driving in that stuff. I still look at the forecast a few times a day because I hope for it to change and show sunny & no precipitation... but I just need to block the weather app on my phone somehow or control myself from looking at it because I can't be worrying like this!

I'm not actually questioning anything other than the truthfulness in her tale. I'm calling her a liar basically.

  • Good lord people give crappy advice. Someone on the same facebook page just told a pregnant woman to drink raspberry herbal tea to help her cervix soften. I mean, you're close, but no... raspberry herbal tea isn't going to do anything other than make you pee. You need red raspberry leaf tea.

  • Got my Amazon registry completion box in the mail. Skeptical of some of this stuff (are wipes going to be good 3 months from now? Should I just donate them to a shelter so they're not wasted?) but there's a swaddle with hedgehogs on it and I AM DYING OF THE ABSOLUTE CUTE.

Plus isn't that to strengthen the ute for contractions anyway? Or is that epo?

Plus I totally feel uncomfortable recommending herbal remedies for pregnant ladies without a medical degree....they have real impacts. Like rrl tea is not recommended for those with a history of breast cancer.

If the box is sealed I don't think they can dry out :)

  • My DH and I are having an epic debates regarding circumcision. Like we could put bump conversations about it to shame. I end up having to leave the room - we've now done this three nights in a row. Why can't I be having another girl?!

Note - not looking to start the debate on here, doesn't even matter what side myself or DH are on, just the fact that we are such polar opposites about it is driving me crazy because there is no way to meet in the middle on this issue!

  • that's a tough one! IMO there's no one right answer which is the hard part. I hope you guys work something out.
  • @CanadianintheSouth I was against it and H was for it. We spoke to the doctor about it and based our decision on her advice.
