Definitely craving all the salty and spicy foods. And anything made of potatoes. Oh and fruit. I ate an entire container of strawberries today.
I am having aversions mainly to meat/fish. But it's OK if it's in something, if that makes sense (like tacos or soup). But just a piece of grilled chicken or a burger, NOPE.
I think the funny thing about when I'm pregnant is the part where I don't feel like eating junky foods as much as I do when I'm not. My body is apparently like, nope don't need that pasta, but those fruits over there you hardly ever get, yeah let's eat lots of those!
This isn't about what I'm eating, so much as what I want to eat. Or rather drink.
My husband is out of town for work. I've been home all week with my toddler, who has decided naps are no longer her thing. My house is decked out in Christmas lights, I'm sitting on the couch with all other lights off, my toddler is finally still, leaning into me while flipping through a book. It's the perfect moment.
And all I keep thinking about is that delicious pumpkin beer in the fridge. There are 2 bottles left from when we got it months ago. so, so tempting.
@osucma I went to Subway with a friend the other day (she doesn't know we are expecting) and I was practically DROOLING over the thought of a foot long turkey and provalone sub. My fear is really the only thing stopping me. My OB wasnt even concerned about lunchmeat. I also buy DH lunchmeat from the deli for his sandwiches and it's so hard not to eat it since it's right there in my fridge.
I don't imagine there's anything in Thai food that could be harmful. The flavours in many curries come from coconut milk, soy sauce, chilli peppers, spices like lemongrass, as well as fish sauce. The amount of fish sauce is usually a splash. It depends on the quality of the place, some fast food places may add MSG which some people don't do well with (some people in general, not just pregnant people). Of course it's always best to try and find out what's in it before you eat it.
I am super frustrated this week because I am craving a specific slice of cheese pizza from a specific restaurant 3,500 miles away. Where I live grab-and-go pizza isn't a thing (I know...). I'm going to have to find SOME kind of pizza tomorrow on my lunch break.
@kat0607 I hear so many varying opinions on lunch meat. My midwife said to have it all heated up, but my co-workers all said that they ate it throughout their pregnancies and were fine.
With all that being said I broke down when I got home because I did not want make anything I ate a bologna sammich! OH MY GOD SO GOOD.
@lvcpatt84 I use to have to bartend when I managed a restaurant and a lady obviously pregnant ordered a tap beer. Eventually I think she said she had like 6 or 8 more weeks. I was so uncomfortable serving her. I must have just had my ds shortly before that if I remember right. And then she started talking about how she really wanted a higher alcohol content beer but her husband wouldn't let her, hers had to be atleast 5.5%. I don't know how I kept a straight face or maybe I didn't and she didn't care idk. She seemed normal but I haven't seen them since.
kudos to you for dealing with no naps and dh gone. You're a better mom then me, I would have and have in the past begged for help from mil.

I am also a beer drinker and I look forward to pumpkin beer all year. I was so bummed to give away a fridge full of pumpkin beers (if I see one I haven't tried, I buy it) after I got my BFP so I feel your pain. Alcohol doesn't sound appetizing to me at all right now but after the first trimester I will probably indulge and have a small glass of red wine or split a beer with my husband on a special occasion, like our anniversary.

I bartended through college. I remember having to take some kind of 2 hours class about rules and cutting people off etc. I remember one of the rules was you aren't allowed to deny bar service to a pregnant woman, and everyone in the class was like, whaaa???? It wasn't at the bar, but a pregnant woman did order a glass of wine from me once, and I remember my 21-year-old-self-with-zero-life-experience giving her major side eye.
Fast forward 8 years to my 5th wedding anniversary, 27 weeks pregnant, sheepishly asking our server at a very swanky steak house downtown for a glass of pilot noir. Thank God that guy had more tact than I did!
@kat0607 London. Most quick lunchtime foods here are sandwich based. The New York style pizza slice thing hasn't caught on. For the record, whole stone baked pizzas are freely available. Just not slices. It's a really picky thing, but I'm missing a good old cheese slice right now.
I am craving a Navajo Taco and a nice huge Navajo burger my appointments are right next to the best restaurant for Navajo Burgers. I resisted today because on Friday we get to have Navajo Tacos and my midwife said I needed to eat better and fry bread twice in one week is so not eating better

@Cait32 Ooops, somehow I'm just now seeing this! I think eggs are one of those things like meat - some people will still order a medium rare steak while others will only go for well done. According to my ob's website, same goes for eggs. Scrambled is fine, but they don't suggest anything with a runny yolk.
I plan to talk to them more about it when I go in. I'm sure I'm being overly cautious, but I'm in the "rather miss out and be safe than sorry" camp.
@britmanering73 Yep! And they are amazing. This is the first year I've seen them and I kinda stocked up (FFFC?) Plus DH won't steal and eat them before I get the chance because he doesn't like mint! Bonus!

I definitely ate an entire box of Kraft mac and cheese by myself last night. Covered in ketchup. Normally I don't even like ketchup. DH got home and was completely grossed out.
All I want to eat is cheese and carbs. Carbs and cheese. Pasta, mac and cheese, potato chips, cheezits. I hate myself right now. I used to be SO disciplined

A box of mac and cheese was my dinner of choice Monday and it was fantastic.

Oh man I draw the line at over cooking my eggs and red meat. Hell no. Nor have I ever heard that. I can see the egg- kind of even though it's an insanely small chance and it's not entirely raw anyways but no to well done steak. Just no. I had over easy eggs this morning they were amazing. Even though I think the lunch meat thing is pretty bunk because you have a higher chance of getting listeria in your raw spinach in your salad I do still avoid it cold although mainly right now because it sounds gross. I will say this is my second pregnancy though and I completely understand wanting to play by any and all recommendations especially for a first pregnancy

During my last pregnancy there was a listeria outbreak in ice cream so I pretty much do what I want. I had a med rare steak last night and I eat Jimmy Johns frequently. Meh
@JAM85 and @alcrimmins off topic but can't stand it when people at a good steak house ask for steak sauce. And just saw a post that put down ketchup on steak, seriously people do this?!
I still eat my steak rare and my OB is fine with it. It's not an every day thing, and he said I'm more likely to get sick from bagged spinach/lettuce.
Also jimmy johns is king. I eat it frequently.

Call me gross but I like ranch on my steak even pre pregnancy. I only eat it like that at home, if we go out I keep my grossness to myself. But I can't bring myself to put sauce on it if we go out.
I'm also on the salty bandwagon... my usual sweet tooth is pretty much gone. I only want fruit and yogurt, and chocolate milk.
I still have my eggs poached (I love runny yolks) and I can't get enough sourdough toast... buttered, or with melted Havarti cheese, or with avocado. I LOVE TOAST!!!
Pretty much all I ever want is some sort of sandwich (any excuse for bread) or a mixed green salad, with tomato, heart of palm and black olives with ranch dressing! And I've been plotting to have In-N-Out for days!!! *I've also had tuna salad once, and turkey lunch meat on several occasions... haven't been sick.
Aversions have been Thanksgiving left overs (never even touched them), baked chicken (which is a regular in my house, but sounds repulsive now)... I even made a pot of chicken soup last week and was turned off by the smell as it was cooking! I ate Trader Joe's cheese tamales instead. Also anything sugary or sweet is not appealing at all, just make my stomach turn.
I saw one of those recipe videos for crab mac n cheese and now I'm regretting not getting the stuff to make it at the grocery store. Somehow I let H talk me out of it We are making slow cooker ribs for dinner tonight so I'm looking forward to that. Plus I'm eating some deliciously sweet pineapple right now and it is everything!

I've been eating anything that can be ketchupped. I've almost gone through a whole bottle since the nausea/aversions/cravings kicked in at week 5. Kiiiiinda grossed out by that fact lol.
@oheliza44 I have two more boxes in my pantry... this might become a problem!
@OperaSingerMommy Try it!! It totally wouldn't be something I'd normally do, but holy crap was it good!
And to anyone who puts any kind of sauce on their steak - blasphemy!! I also won't be going the well-done steak route - my OB's office says as long as the inside is 145/med rare, you should be fine.

My appetite fluctuates every day. Some days I can't seem to get enough others everything sounds DISGUSTING.
I do crave chips, pop, I eat a pickle every day, I have wanted deli meat SO BAD!!
@kghusker1003 I have eaten deep fried pickles many times! They are so good!
My husband is out of town for work. I've been home all week with my toddler, who has decided naps are no longer her thing. Then I came across this:

I won't drink it, at least not tonight, but that article makes me feel a little bit better about obsessing over drinking it.
