Best of luck today @mecoats you deserve it!! You'll do amazing!!

Can't believe we're all hitting viability this week, very cool!!

@kiyamurph that house sounds awesome, I hope they accept your offer!!!

I was talking with my sister last night about baby registry things, specifically sleeping arrangements for babies when they're really young. Are any of you planning to use a pack n play instead of a traditional crib the first couple months? I bought a sleeper thing (https://www.amazon.com/Tiny-Love-Rocker-Napper-Red/dp/B008VU3A1C) that my sister thinks is dangerous because it has sides that the baby could go up against, even though he would be buckled into it... I was planning on using this with baby in our bedroom the first few months but now I'm wondering if she's right about it potentially being a suffocation hazard... I was also planning to buy a rock 'n play sleeper as like a back up or for naps, but am a little worried about using it too much because I read it can contribute to flat head...? Anyone use either of these previously as a primary sleeper or plan to use one this time around?

  • @serenity13 I planned on using a rock n play by my bed for the first couple of months before transferring my baby to a crib. I hadn't read about the flat head issue. Yikes! You are making me reconsider. Regardless, I want something small in my room next to the bed for sleeping.
  • Anyone ordered their breast pump yet? I know that most insurance companies will cover it, but I have no idea how that process works. Besides, my insurance is changing Jan 1, so I'm thinking about waiting until then.

  • @RunBooRun I was lucky enough to get a brand new one for free through a Facebook mom group I'm part of so I dont have to be wait for my insurance but I hear the process takes 2-3 weeks
  • @mecoats Good luck at your interview! Knock 'em dead.

@kiyamurph How exciting! I hope they accept your offer and you hear back soon.

@RunBooRun I already ordered and received my breast pump and it was a much easier process than I anticipated. I was lurking another BMB and somebody went through this website https://www.breastpumps.aeroflowinc.com/ in which I did too. You put in your insurance information and they'll let you know if they can supply you with your pump. The process from inquiry to delivery took around 2 weeks. Their customer service was AWESOME.

  • @RunBooRun I tried calling my insurance directly to see how to go about getting a breast pump covered by my insurance and they gave me very minimal information but said my doctor will know what is covered. So when I went in for my appointment last week they gave me everything I needed to know and they did most of the work for me. my suggestion would be to ask your doc what's covered. maybe they can even suggest which insurance company to go with (the one you have now or the one you are switching to) for the best pump because I know some have better options than others.
  • @EALasagna45 and @babyspice - Thanks!!

@runboorun I have BCBS PPO I ordered mine through Bryam Health Care. U can find their website and call them.  They have spectra and medela to choose from (and other ones). They will tell u how much ur insurance covers or if u need to pay part or all. They won't charge u till they talk to the insurance company. I ordered medela bc my friends all have it. It came in a week, and its new, not a rental, all mine. My insurance covered all.

  • @RunBooRun I ended up going to Medela's website and typing in my insurance information. The covered pump popped up for $0 and I ordered it. The issue I had with the insurance companies is that they wanted you to go through medical suppliers, which were hit or miss on what types of pumps they carried. I heard great things about Medela, so I went for that and it was super easy.

@serenity13 my DD slept in a rock n play for first 4 months or so , no issues here.

@RunBooRun try yummy mummy.com that's where I got mine 100% covered through Aetna and there is a drop down menu to select your insurance carrier . This is my 2nd pregnancy in 2 years so I did not get a new pump this time around but I got all new parts and tubing completely covered by insurance
  • @RunBooRun I actually got mine a couple of months ago. I wasn't sure how long the process would take, so I contacted my insurance to ask about how pregnancy works with it and they were super helpful (I currently have Humana). She gave me a few different websites I could order it from and it just plugged in my policy number and dr office info. They contacted the dr office for the prescription for it and the pump arrived like 2 days later. Easy peasy.
My insurance is also changing to Blue Cross Blue Shield in January, and I am considering getting another pump and seeing which I like better, or leaving one at work and having one for home maybe. Hopefully it'll be just as easy. Seems like it really depends on what insurance you have as far as when they'll allow you to order it.

  • Like everyone has said-depends on insurance. Mine called ME and did all the work for us last time around, this time my midwife had all the paperwork at my last appointment to order for me -but I declined because I'm gonna stick with the one from DD1 (which I may have used a handful of times)
  • There is no reason not to use a pack and play for baby. Any surface can give baby a flat head if left in the same spot for long enough. A rock and play, however, is not a safe sleep solution. Babies should sleep flat on their backs on a firm mattress with nothing near soft in with them. The semi reclined position of the rock n play (and other items like it) can restrict the airway, it also allows gravity to pull baby into his prefered position and stay there which does cause flat head syndrome, it can also increase acid reflux. A safer alternative to any of the semi-reclining rockers that are popular for sleeping is a bassinet. They're small enough to fit right next to the bed, but they are flat and are approved by the American Association of Pediatrics.

@babyspice I had a very similar experience with my insurance company. I had to get a prescription from my doctor, though. My insurance company tried telling me they'd only pay to rent one and said I had a 20% coinsurance, yet somehow I ended up with a brand new Medela.

My random - I have a sinus infection and I feel like crap. Therefore, people are irritating me more than usual.

  • When you are exhausted, your SO is exhausted, newborn is picky about sleep... you let your kid sleep wherever works for all of you to catch a few winks.

I thought id use the pack and play for DD, but she refused to use it. We ended up bedsharing with a bassinet. Ideally I'd like to use pack and play up next to our bed this time for closeness but extra space in bed - but I have no set expectations. Whatever gets us all the most sleep will be what we pick when the time comes!
  • @serenity13 you might want to look into the "dockatot". It's a baby bed that's safe. My son wouldn't sleep in the rock and play. I've never tried the dock a tot but I ordered it for this baby and can't wait to use it!

All of my shirts are getting too short. Even the maternity ones. Why can't tall people clothes ever be easy to find?

    Etf: spelling
  • i want the dock a tot so bad! if LO has sleep issues like DS did I'm taking the plunge . I'm really just kind of stressing out about where baby will sleep after a few months. We could technically make our guest room work, transfer DS to a big boy bed and give her the crib but we don't know exactly when we are moving yet which I think is just adding to my worries.
  • @samm1225 short lady here but big belly and some of my maternity shirts are too short too! Funny enough, some of my regular tops still fit. I give up lol

The dock-a-tot does look great. I just can't justify the price tag when it's more then I spent for my crib and mattress...

ETA: if you google babynest, moms are making similar items on etsy for $45... I'd ask some questions about the material and breathability, but might be worth looking into.
  • aw @longliveregina it's a bittersweet thing when they are finally done. I feel ya
  • @longliveregina I won't judge you for not going to work on Friday! And also, I totally get the feeling of being done with breastfeeding. Very bittersweet. My 2 yo misses it and so now he'll ask to say hi to my boobs. It's pretty funny. If we're on the couch, he'll say, "hi boobs?" And then I'll lift my shirt and he'll lay his head on them. Breastfeeding this next baby is the one thing I worry about when it comes to my little guy being jealous. Considering my boobs were a source of comfort for him for 2 years, I'm not surprised he still misses them.

Do they just not consider these things? Or is there like, a secret store you can shop at if you still need to look presentable past a certain point?
  • @samm1225 you may not want to shell out the $$$ at this point because they're expensive and we don't have a ton of time to go, but Isabella Oliver is the only maternity brand I have not had this problem with (I'm tall and also having twins, so I need all the fabric I can get).
