Hello, let me introduce myself first..
For the first 30 years of my life, everything was smooth and worry-free. I was my parents’ most beloved child, found my true love in college, and happily married him after graduation.
At work, I was my boss’s most valued employee. Whenever I was in charge of a project, colleagues would inevitably say, “Oh, then I’m totally at ease.” I was constantly named “Employee of the Year,” with generous bonuses every year.
Later, I started my own business. Within just three months, I had broken into the market and started making money. By the fifth month, I was earning twice my previous salary. Growth was steady month after month. Right when the business needed more hands, I serendipitously met an amazing partner, and the company reached a whole new level.
Really, it seemed like at every step, whatever I needed, a pair of hands would always place it right in front of me, just in time.
My Two Girls: Ellie & Mia
Meet Ellie, My Firstborn
In 2020, my husband and I decided to have a child. After trying for over a year, we finally got the news in 2021 that a little one was on the way. In 2022, we welcomed our first child, Ellie. She made me a mother.
She is utterly adorable—big eyes, rosy skin, chubby little hands. Every time I look at her, I can’t help but give her a kiss. She is pure joy, and I love her more each day.
But as a first-time mom, I faced unprecedented difficulties. The postpartum tearing wouldn’t heal, and the pain was excruciating. Clogged milk ducts made my breasts hard as rocks. The severe sleep deprivation… And what was even more crushing was that, with zero parenting experience, I was clueless when faced with her unexplained wailing, night terrors, refusal to nurse, constipation, diarrhea, fevers… I desperately searched online, longing for one accurate, truly useful answer!
It was during this time that I thought, once I make it through this “dark” path, I must leave a light on for other new moms.
And Then Came Mia
Ellie had just turned one when I got pregnant again. In 2024, we welcomed our second daughter, Mia.
Completely different from Ellie, Mia is a great eater and sleeper. Although she had her fussy moments in the first two months, starting almost from month three, she became super easygoing. She feeds on schedule, gradually sleeps through the night, loves her solid foods, and adapted quickly when I had to stop breastfeeding due to mastitis.
This made me realize just how vastly different babies can be! It made me even more determined to write about my experiences.
Why I Had to Start This Blog
The Catalyst: A Life Pivoted
After Mia was born, my business also began to decline sharply. I had no choice but to close it and become a full-time mom. My work no longer involves Excel and Word, but instead revolves around changing diapers, washing bottles, making baby food, and managing household chores…
This has been a monumental challenge for me. All my past achievements seem irrelevant now. Managing two young children has brought me a sense of frustration I’ve never known before.
The Daily Reality
They are always fighting over things. When one is in my arms, the other immediately demands to be held too. When I try to cook, Ellie wants me to read her a book. When I attempt to load the washing machine, Mia has a diaper blowout, and I must drop everything to change her…
By the time I finish all that, I see the cup of hot coffee on the table has gone cold again. And it’s not until evening that I remember, “Oh my goodness, the clothes are still in the hamper, unwashed!”
Of course, being a mom is filled with happiness, but that doesn’t negate how hard it is.
My Promise to You
Because I’ve walked this path myself, I won’t just tell you how joyful motherhood is, like many websites do. I want to share my real, unfiltered experiences so every new mom can find a “companion” here.
I want to tell you: you are not alone. What you’re going through, I’ve been there too. Your breakdowns, your helplessness, your moments of losing control—I’ve had them all. You don’t need to feel guilty. This is just a small, necessary stretch of the journey for every mom.
My Hope for This Space
I really want to share my parenting experiences—not just the warm, glowing moments, but to honestly document the pitfalls I’ve stumbled into, the tears I’ve shed, and the “survival wisdom” I’ve scraped together in utter exhaustion.
The Goal: A Mom’s Toolkit
I hope this blog becomes a “mom’s toolkit,” filled not with vague theories, but with:
- Practical Tips: Like how to quickly figure out why a baby is crying, tried-and-true methods for dealing with clogged ducts, or how to efficiently manage the daily grind with twins (or two under two) solo.
- Pitfall Avoidance Guides: Sharing the baby products I regret buying the most, and those “game-changer” parenting hacks. Letting you know which parenting anxieties you can let go of, and which principles are worth holding onto.
- A Community for Moms: I hope my stories connect me with more moms like you. We can cheer each other on in the comments, share our own tricks, turning the storms we face alone into a journey we walk together.
The Bigger Vision
My previous career taught me to analyze data, solve problems, and optimize processes. Now, I’m applying all those skills to this new “position” of Mom. I want to prove that a mom’s value is absolutely not confined to the home. The mindset, resilience, and creativity we built in our careers can shine just as brightly—perhaps even brighter—in this more complex, long-term “project” of raising humans, and can even be transformed into a force that helps others.
My hope is simple: that every mom who opens this blog can let out a sigh of relief and say, “So it’s not just me.” Then, she can find a bit of practical info, a dose of comforting solidarity, and return to her sweet, chaotic mom-life with a little more confidence and a little less weight on her shoulders.
This road? Let’s walk it together.
Re: 1st Trimester Check-in Week of 11/28 ***New Leader Needed!!***
2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having? Lots of little aches and pains here and there. I feel little flutters in my uterus which I'm hoping is the baby moving, but it's so hard to tell. It could just be some expansion going on.
3. When is your next appointment? Wednesday morning! I won't be getting an ultrasound but we will get to listen to the baby's heartbeat so I'm looking forward to that.
4. Anything else you'd like to share? My appetite around lunch time is out of control. I could easily eat 2 full lunches. But then my appetite kind of dies in the evening. I've also been having aversions to meat and DH is a big meat eater. But I'm having a hard time even being near it and I can't even prepare it. He's been a trooper putting up with my inconsistencies (he's such a creature of habit).
QOTW: Who knows about your pregnancy so far? When/how do you plan to announce your big news? We've told all the really important people in our life now (aka family and close friends) and we've started telling people as we see them. Still haven't decided when to go Facebook public. My mom keeps asking when she can make her own FB announcement, haha. But I just don't feel ready yet. Maybe after our prenatal appointment on Wednesday I'll feel confident enough to go public, but if not we will wait until after our anatomy scan on January 5th (when I'll be almost 19 weeks).
Me: 34, DH: 38 ~ TTC since 2014
IUI #1-3 (Nov 2015, Feb 2016, May 2016) = BFNs
IVF ER (July 2016) = 7 PGS normal embryos
FET #1 (Sept 2016) = BFP! DD born 5/30/17
FET #2 (April 2019) = BFN
FET #3 (July 2019) = BFP! DS born 3/27/20
11 weeks, 6/19
2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having?
Nausea not as bad except for in the evening, bloating not as bad, still having gas, headaches almost every night now, restless legs at night, insomnia, acne in weird places, sore boobs.
3. When is your next appointment?
Dec 7
4. Anything else you'd like to share?
Wishing I could sleep better at night. I'll have to try to squeeze in more naps.
QOTW: Who knows about your pregnancy so far? When/how do you plan to announce your big news?
Most of our immediate family knows, our DD knows and her teachers know. I'll tell everyone else with a Xmas card after I hear a strong heartbeat at our next prenatal appointment. I'm still nervous but I think everything is fine.
BFP Oct 2011 - DD born July 2012
TTC again since July 2014
First IUI 9/26/16: BFP!
EDD 6/19/2017
It's a girl!
Born 6/26/17, 9lb 5oz
2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having? Appetite is up and down. Strong craving for random food and disdain for others. IDK if its b/c of twins but my bladder! Already going to the bathroom tons including during the middle of the night which I never did before.
3. When is your next appointment? Later this week.
4. Anything else you'd like to share? Has anyone bought any parenting books? This is my first time at the rodeo and I'm thinking of getting some. "What to expect when you're expecting." I always see that book. We'll see.
QOTW: Who knows about your pregnancy so far? When/how do you plan to announce your big news? Only my in-laws know. We'll tell my family and close friends next week. I don't plan to do anything on Facebook. I have a feeling though that a distant aunt will just announce it when she finds out. We have no mutual friends outside of family so I'll shrug it off. Read an article recently from some upset parents stating that a family member announced the birth of their baby and posted pics on Facebook without their okay. I find that rude. Let the parents make the announcement if they so wish or at least obtain their permission.

1. How far along are you and what is your EDD? 8 weeks with two little peanuts
2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having? Im pretty lucky so far! Nauseous on and off but nothing too major. Some days I really dont feel well, but most days I am okay! Still very tired and I am crampy from time to time, but I think its just everything stretching out. Trying to decipher the difference between good crampy and bad crampy lol. My sense of smell and sense of taste is unreal; its crazy how heightened it gets.
3. When is your next appointment? December 7th is my first OB appointment
4. Anything else you'd like to share? I graduated from my RE today; it was my last morning drive out to that office. I am happy yet sad. I LOVE my RE and wish she could see me through my pregnancy, but I am happy to have a healthy enough pregnancy that I get to move on now!
QOTW: My immediate family and close friends know about the pregnancy. We struggled for so long, I kind of became an open book throughout the process. I leaned on family and friends to get me through. They all knew when I would do transfers so they knew when I got my results. I thought it would be cruel to lie to them and tell them I wasnt pregnant, so they all kind of knew from the very start. My extended family and friends will find out around Christmas (12 weeks).

1. I'm 8 weeks, 3 days.
2. After all my symptoms disappearing last week and freaking me out they are back. Nausea back, cramping has been really bad the last few days with any exercise (even a brisk walk). Does anyone else really struggle to take pills? I'm gagging at the thought of taking my drugs
3. First proper appointment with my nurse-midwife on Thursday.
QOTW: Who knows about your pregnancy so far? When/how do you plan to announce your big news?
Very close family and friends who have supported us through the IF journey. They know we are very cautious but I will need their support if things don't work out with this bean. I'm managing to keep positive at the moment but every day feels like an achievement.
@JaneJane I've just finished Expecting Better and it was great. It challenges the reasons and science behind lots of advice (and criticises the conflicting advice given with no reasoning). For the most part it doesn't tell you what to do but gives you the options and risks associated which suits me.
I'm now reading Let them eat dirt, which isn't really a pregnancy book but it talks about the importance of microbes in the first days/years of life (including pregnancy). It's very easy to read despite being about really complicated science. For example the impact that taking antibiotics in pregnancy can have on long term health of your child and what you can do to minimise the impact (probiotics and a varied diet with complex carbs and fermented foods).
I think my sister in law is going to lend me her pregnancy books when we go home for Christmas in a few weeks.
I'm a librarian so I expect I'll be reading more than the average person!
Edited to add QOTW.
@nellin I don't exercise because I am too afraid to do anything that might make me miscarry (I'm a headcase lol) but I do find that the days where I am more active, I spot a little more and i'm more crampy.

1. How far along are you and what is your EDD? I'm 6w4d. EDD is 7/21/17
2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having? Nausea, food aversions, sore boobs, and constant major headaches. I've become super sensitive to salt and sugar, and all of a sudden nearly everything I eat is too salty or too sweet.
3. When is your next appointment? Dec 10
4. Anything else you'd like to share? I had a major freak out Sat morning when I had some pretty heavy spotting for the first time. I spent the morning crying and scared out of my mind. I had to wait 3 hrs for my clinic to open and they had me come in. My RE did our first u/s and we were able to confirm it's one baby as one of our little frosties didn't make it
QOTW: Who knows about your pregnancy so far? When/how do you plan to announce your big news? Pretty much everyone except DH's family. My coworkers, family, and friends all knew I was doing my FET so they all knew I'd have results within 2 weeks of transfer. We'll probably tell DH's family closer to 2nd trimester - it's a bit of a strained relationship so DH will probably tell his 6 siblings via text of an u/s pic with cute caption or something like that.
Welcome @taradise99 and @MicronesianMamma! Congrats on your little beans!!!
@MicronesianMamma I think that probably most of us have been there with the spotting scare early on in pregnancy
@Nellin I'm 13 weeks now and haven't had any nausea for about a week. Well, just after I posted the check-in my nausea came back so bad that I got dizzy and I've been fighting it all morning. It definitely comes and goes for me, and just when I think I'm in the clear, it's like NOPE!
Question for twin mamas: are you calculating your EDDs based on the 40 week mark or is it earlier? Just curious because I've been removing people from the check-in based on their EDDs implying that they've reached 2nd trimester. But if your EDD is sooner because you're having twins, then you might get removed before you reach 2nd tri! Should we stick to a 40 week EDD for the sake of the check-in? Open to suggestions.

@wifeinraleigh28 no problem about the board. Question though, do you make up the QTOW each week? Also, I'm a twin mama and I gave you my EDD based on 40 weeks. They will likely take them early but I don't know 100% yet so I'm going with 40weeks.

QOTW: Who knows about your pregnancy so far? When/how do you plan to announce your big news? I just told my boss today since I felt so sick over the long weekend. Other than that, only my DH, and a good friend at work because he asked about my next steps. I'm planning on surprising my parents at Christmas - my mom is a huge worrier, so I'm trying to spare her and me! As far as they know, we are still on an IVF 'break'.
5 weeks + 4 days; 7/28 (not 7/21, like I typoed last week)
2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having?
Bleeding... dark brown yesterday, bright red this morning, now back to dark brown. Went for an early u/s this morning. No detected reason for the bleeding picked up on u/s... embryonic sac and yolk sac picked up, but no fetal pole yet.
3. When is your next appointment?
U/s on 12/7
4. Anything else you'd like to share?
Felt really bummed that there was only 1 sac (we transferred 2). One is obviously better than none, but I just really 'felt' like it was twins, so it was a blow.
QOTW: Who knows about your pregnancy so far? When/how do you plan to announce your big news?
Immediate family and my best friends know. No announcement plans as of now.

QOTW: we told out extended family on Thanksgiving day. I don’t think we’re going to make a broader announcement (or anything on Facebook) until after our 20 week appt in Jan.

@mjacks16 What a huge surprise you'll be giving your parents at Christmas!! I'm excited to hear their reactions!
@Monica54321 SO sorry to hear you had bleeding. I had bleeding at 10 weeks and freaked out too. So scary. I'm so glad they saw the yolk sac. It's still just early for the rest of it at this point. I'm glad you have a little fighter in there and I'm sorry they didn't both stick

Monica54321 sorry to hear about the bleeding scare. It sounds like it's very common - I had spotting that lasted a few days about the same time as you but all seems fine now.
When are people who work telling colleagues/bosses??
I'm trying to decide still!
I told my Assistant Principal when I was doing treatments (she went through IVF too) so it made it easier to tell her. I also made sure my doctors appt never effected my job. I just told my Principal two days ago. I figure I cant be lifting my kids and being as hands on as I usually am, so I don't want her to think I am being lazy lol. Im also due at the perfect time for a teacher (july 12) so it again wont effect my job and it made it easier for me to tell her that I was pregnant.

2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having? None right now. The tiredness & sore breasts have subsided for the moment.
3. When is your next appointment? NT scan (ultrasound) on Friday. Got to hear the heartbeat at my OB appt yesterday.
4. Anything else you'd like to share? Waiting for my belly to change some. I'm plus size so I still look fluffy and not pregnant.
QOTW: Who knows about your pregnancy so far? When/how do you plan to announce your big news?
My mom, siblings, & mom's side know's I'm expecting. I haven't told my dad's side yet (TW: Dad passed in Feb.). I plan on telling them via messenger on Friday after my ultrasound. I was going to tell them in person but we won't be getting together for Christmas this year due to conflicting schedules. My bosses and staff know at work. I was looking at a change in my position (school system politics) and wouldn't be in my normal departments when I planned to tell around 13wks so I told them at 9.5wks. Everyone's been super excited and supportive of my new journey.
As far as exercise, the only exercise I've done since getting my BFP is walking. DH and I walk about 3 miles every morning (and occasionally again in the afternoon) and I've somehow managed to keep it up even on my ultra tired days. I think it's been keeping me healthy though and in good shape for the pregnancy. My OB said the elliptical is fine (we have one) but I haven't had the energy to hop on there yet.

2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having? nothing right now, everything has pretty much subsided other than my giant boobs
3. When is your next appointment? 12/6 i meet my ob nurse
4. Anything else you'd like to share? i officially graduated from RE, i have stopped the estrace and crinone (amazing for my morning schedule) and i am working on my last functioning bra (hilarious but not really) ....with my large boobs even prior to getting pregnant i would snap the underwire randomly, well in the last few months i went from about 10 bras down to 1, the last one was this weekend
QOTW: Who knows about your pregnancy so far? When/how do you plan to announce your big news? everyone at work, unless they have been living under a rock. there are 4 of us pregnant so its a running joke now. my parents and in-laws found out on thanksgiving, lots of tears there it was great. the extended family we plan on sharing for Christmas and i have ordered a shirt that i saw on pinterest "bump's first Christmas". I am def planning on doing a FB announcement for Christmas or right after but i am up in the air as to how. i am very aware of how everyone else's announcements have made me feel over the years so i want to make it about our journey and where we have come from but then again not everyone knows and i dont know if opening that can of worms for some of our family is what i wish to do.
@janejane i am trying to read "what to expect..." i would normally try to read before bed but i am barely making it to bed so i am not getting too far with it
Brief little update... so yesterday I started experiencing some pretty intense abdominal pain and could only find relief from laying on my side. Fortunately I already had my monthly prenatal appointment scheduled so I was able to talk to my OB about it. She said it's that round ligament pain I've been hearing so much about. Man that can really hurt! Sometimes I cough and get a sharp stretching pain in my uterus from it too. But I'm glad it's all normal. We had a good appointment. No ultrasound, but we listened to our little girl's heart beat and it is still beating strong at 154 bpm! I had DH record it so that I can listen to it whenever I want. It's like music to my ears!
I've also been getting horrible headaches lately, mostly in the evening, but so bad that I can't function... can't eat dinner, can't even move around really. I've just been lying in bed with an ice pack on my head. My OB confirmed that headaches are very common at the start of 2nd trimester. I'm glad to hear it's normal but they are really difficult to deal with. I was all excited to enter 2nd trimester! For the nausea to go away, to get my energy back, to have my sex drive back... and all I've wound up with so far is round ligament pain, excruciating headaches, oh and nightmares! Apparently nightmares are a normal 2nd trimester symptom too. Hopefully these symptoms won't last the entire trimester...

I'm sorry about the headaches and round ligament pain!! I've had a few headaches that keep me from falling asleep at night. Hopefully your uterus will calm down with those pains soon!
1. How far along are you and what is your EDD? 13 weeks tomorrow, EDD June 9th
2. Which oh-so-lovely pregnancy symptoms are you having? Is laziness a pregnancy symptom? I've been really lazy when it comes to cooking. I want to eat so many things but not so crazy about the cooking part.
3. When is your next appointment? It was supposed to be today but DH is out of town so I had to reschedule for next week! I can't wait! There should be an ultrasound involved because I haven't had one since 8 weeks along.
QOTW: Who knows about your pregnancy so far? When/how do you plan to announce your big news?
I have told my work (because I was doing an awful job of covering up symptoms and there are certain things I can't do there while pregnant), two friends and my mom. We are going home for Christmas and will tell the rest of the family then. No plans as to how to announce yet.
@Colleen0516 I'm so happy to see you here!
@rmarble23 LOL at the bra story!! I hope you were able to find some on sale! I am living in sports bras for now.

@nellin Congratulations on allowing yourself to start becoming excited about it! I think once I'm through the 1st trimester I will be a little more excited. I feel as if I'm walking on eggshells now!
*update* Spoke to the oncall RE who had the personality and empathy of an ant. I have go in for an ultrasound at 7am tomorrow.
