Re: TTTC Checkin: 11/29/2016

  • congrats @Megzb510!

cycle day #4 of my third letrozole try.  feeling really blah.  thankfully we have a follow up appointment at the end of this cycle so hopefully will have more answers and a plan going forward.  I can see why it's hard to do the same thing more than 3 times - I am already feeling like this isn't going to work for us and wanting to try something new!

    Married since 2011

    TTC since Oct 2014
    DOR + MFI
3 failed IUIs; IVF August 2017
    FET January 2018 - BFP
  • Congratulations to @Megzb510!

CD8 and loving that I'm not preoccupied with trying. Had lots of beer over the holiday weekend and didn't stress over exercise. Only had one reference to me having kids someday at the holidays. And it didn't really bother me. (Probably helped that their little one peed on dad's leg through her pull up)

Had stronger feelings last week about how unfair infertility is and my therapist recommended "Waiting for Daisy" as a book to explore how I feel about this process.

QOTW: I can't say I have one. There's just so much good TV on streaming services. I'm overwhelmed by my queue most days.
Married 4 years, TTC 3 years
Dx: Unexplained infertility, hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's, MTHFR Mutation
    DH - low motility
    Rx: Levothyroxine, misc supplements

@BenJay thanks for mentioning the book, I think I'm going to check that out also!  Like you I've enjoyed this month off and not being preoccupied with TTC.

Still just waiting for AF to show up next week hopefully, although I wouldn't be shocked if she wasn't on time.  I heard back from the RE's office and I tested positive for the MTHFR test. From what my nurse said it's a gene mutation(awesome) that causes issues with the absorption of folic acid.  The nurse didn't  elaborate beyond telling me to take a  prescription she's calling in for me. Dr. Google is horrifying and making me feel like I'm doomed though.  :(

QOTW- Friends because it was my happy place or My So Called Life because that ended much too soon!

  • @BenJay Thanks for the book recommendation. I'm going to request that from the library.

@worldtravler0522 I hope they get the rest of your results soon!

@seethosestars Good luck with your cycle! I know how you feel about wanting to move on. Last cycle was our first break and it was nice because it felt like a change. Of course now I want to jump right back in--even though I can't until next year--so I guess a break does help get you back in the IUI mindset.

CD10 for me. DH is still having no problems with the clomid. Hopefully it's actually working. He should have a blood test soon. I'm getting antsy to start the IUIs again next year. I told DH I'd do three more once we got his motility issues sorted out.

QOTW Deadwood. Even though I never actually finished Season 3, I understand it ends on a cliffhanger. I really should finish it.
  • @Megzb510 Congrats on your BFP!
@seethosestars Fx that you get some answers and good luck on this cycle!
@BenJay Thanks for the book mention.  I will probably check that one out.
@Worldtravler0522 I'm glad your tests so far have come out clear.  Fx that the rest are ok too.

CD12 for me.  I am almost done with my Estrogen pills and DH and I have started our week of BD.  And hallelujah, my libido has returned!!!  I was helping DH clean up the kitchen after dinner last night when suddenly BAM there it was. And it was like, full force.  I even had some fun dreams last night.  Not sure if it's the estrogen as this is the first time I've been on it.  Anyone who has taken Estrogen before...is increased sex drive a potential side effect?  Whatever it is, I like it.

And I don't want to say that I am feeling optimistic, per say, but I am feeling really good right now emotionally.  I don't feel quite as stressed about conceiving this month than I have been lately.

QOTW: I would bring back Firefly.....in a heartbeat.  It was such a good show and never even made it through the first season because Fox network screwed it all up.

  • @worldtravler0522 Sorry to hear that! I know @lablover78 has the same issue, and can provide lots of good advice on her treatments. There was also a thread about it on the IF board, although it may be buried.
  • Thanks @Bababatty, I'll see if I can dig up that post on IF and I thought someone else had that issue but I couldn't remember who had it.

  • Hi everyone.  I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving.

I had been waiting to post here until I got some news from my RE office after my pre-IUI monitoring this morning.  Unfortunately the results I just got are shitty.  My progesterone level is super high indicating that I O'd really early this cycle.  This isn't the first time that has happened so I will have a call with my doctor in the next week or so to talk about what is going on and what is next.

I'm so sad.  Back to TWW I go with no shot of getting KU this cycle.
History and blog link in spoiler

  • @Worldtravler0522 it is actually normal to have a MTHFR mutation, you can have one or two mutated genes. Having two puts you at higher risk for negative effects. The only way to know if the mutation has an actual effect is to test your homocysteine levels. If those are elevated it means your folate levels are low (MTHFR is used in the breakdown of folic acid into folate).

Theres a lot of non-evidence based information online. In fact, as a nurse it was hard for me to even find legitimate information/research on it.

The real concern for TTC is neural tube defects due to low folate levels and possibly clotting disorders due to high homocysteine levels.

Hopefully that helps. Please be careful about what you read online. There are many "doctors" who do not use evidence to back up their claims and are using their "personal expertise" to sell products and gain fame (Dr. Axe and Dr. Ben Lynch - to name a few)

AFM - not much new. In the FW, going to do date night with my SO and just enjoy the no pressure BDing right now. Trying to stay busy so the RE appointment gets here faster!

  • @PoeMasque thank you so much for your response!!  You have no idea how helpful it was for me.   After reading some stuff this morning I was like great not only am I never going to carry a baby to term but I will have a heart attack too and I can never eat carbs again and folic acid is poison.

I was somewhat skeptical of how often Dr. Lynch showed up in my searches so to hear from someone else that I should be leery of him and others is helpful.  My nurse seemed completely chill about it and told me to give them a call when AF shows up and to start my supplements ASAP. Thanks again for your input it was very reassuring!

@Worldtravler0522 I actually just got tested for the same thing. My (new) doc also seems chill about it, although given my past treatments/lack of success it was the first thing she recommended testing. From what she says, it's an "easy" fix!

CD 21 for me, most likely 2-3 DPO. Didn't test/temp on thanksgiving, so there's a little wiggle room. Not hugely optimistic this cycle given the whole MTHFR thing, but our timing was good so we'll see how fast the supplements kick in, I guess?

    QOTW: I'm with @hoffmanr7 - I miss Firefly!

Edited to put quotes around easy. Because, you know, emotions...
  • @Worldtravler0522  and @smokinangel one thing I forgot to mention - I have a close friend who was diagnosed with MTHFR and told to go on a strict non-fortified foods diet (her Dr. told her "I don't know much about it, but look at Dr. Lynch's site and follow his rules exactly" - HUGE red flag there FYI). She did this for about a year with zero improvement in her original symptoms of fatigue, neuropathy, and muscle pain. She stopped worrying about the whole thing about 6 months ago, but did continue to take a folate supplement. She got pregnant one month after getting her IUD out and is now 8 weeks along. Her OB is not concerned at all about the MTHFR issue and it obviously had zero effect on her ability to get pregnant very quickly.

One thing that I will mention about folate: new research shows a significant increase in autism spectrum disorder in children born to mothers with elevated folate levels in late pregnancy. So for all the MTHFR ladies who are on extra folate, I would urge you to ask for a blood serum test in the third trimester to make sure your levels are in the normal range. This is super new research and it absolutely does not mean you should stop taking folate or folic acid in earlier pregnancy. Here's a link to show your OB if this is concerning to you

  • So each time I post, while I'm reading everyone's posts I have in my mind all the things I want to say to everyone. the "congratulations" "so excited for yous", the "oh no! I'm so sorry to hear thats" and everything in between. I want to tag everyone individually and personalize all my coments. but when I finally get to the end and begin tapping away on the screen on my phone, my thumbs cramp up, I keep losing my place, and one too many typos in screen names sends me spiraling to frustration... so rather than one by one, I'm going to be lame and just say "yay! congrats to those who posted good news. and "hugs" to all of us who need them.

Not too much new over here. I'm waiting on af so I can get on back track with temping and such. I will not take provera to start a cycle this time around. I'm going to wait and see if my metformin and weight loss have kicked it into gear. oh, pcos, I hate you. I'm realizing how little I know about pcos, so I've started doing some more research. if anyone can point me in a good dorection, that'd be great! I keep getting overwhelmed.
I tested today with a cheapie, I'm supposed to start my period this weekend. I knowwww it's early, but I just couldn't wait... I'm such a self sabotager. I knew I'd be disappointed with a bfn. I knew testing too early would give a bfn. I did it anyway. because *i.must.pee.on.all.the.sticks!!!* I then hid it in the trash so dh wouldn't know I decided to make myself sad. lol. does anyone else hide their excessive testing?

Qotw: oh so many!!! (not all cancelled, but just ended in general) psych, parks and rec, private practice, raising hope.... Oh if only they could all be never ending like greys anatomy!

  • @laurad75 I'm sorry. That sucks. :(
    @mrswifeytoad - I test lots too. :)

I'm CD9 (@BenJay, I think we are synced :)), and not loving it. I had a minor meltdown after work today, just thinking about how long it's been.

A friend sent me photos of her daughter who was born around when we started trying; this baby is turning into a toddler. She has so many teeth and is making friends at daycare... Friends! My sister started trying around when we did. She is due in 2 weeks. Another sister, and my step-sister (yes, 3 - but who's counting?) are due in March; they started trying after us.

I want to be happy for everyone, and I am, but I wish it weren't tinged with a reminder of what I don't have. I want to meet my little nieces or nephews and not have this sadness looming over the experience. I put so much pressure on myself to be there for my sisters - we lost my mom when we were young, and I'm the oldest - and I'm so angry that IF might cast a shadow when I go to the hospital to meet my sister's baby. I guess I'm trying to find a way to wrestle my sadness down.

I keep thinking to myself: "this will be a memory soon; you will get through this, you can do this, you will have a baby one day, just be patient." I've been thinking about running again, even - not because of the fitness, but because I could use the "just keep going" metaphor of it. After my mini-meltdown, I dragged myself to a yoga class and felt a bit better. If this IF keeps up, I am going to be in the best shape of my life.

QOTW: They weren't cancelled, but if I could I would bring back Oprah (OMG I miss Oprah so much lately - I want to subscribe to the magazine), and Sex and the City (obviously). I hated how SATC ended - Big was sexy, but I can't forgive him for Natasha, and I never saw the Petrovsky appeal (also, the movies! ugh!), but I miss those characters so much. I re-watch episodes sometimes - it is still, this many years later, an excellent show.

@hoffmanr7 you made me laugh. Every time I hear someone talking about how Fox screwed up Firefly, I laugh - like: "oops, found a fan." I couldn't get into it, myself. But I wasn't into Buffy, either.  (also @hoffmanr7 glad your libido is back. ;) )
  • @PoeMasque no need to apologize I love the information and Google is just overwhelming right now because it's filled with horrible results.  I appreciate the information!

  • @funkykey i can't tell you how many times I have felt the same way. My SO and I started trying before any of our friends and now three of them have new babies or are pregnant. I struggle with being happy and being resentful. Thankfully, I'm happy for them most of the time, but on bad days I just try to avoid them and let it pass.

  • @mrswifeytoad I also hide my excessive testing.  I normally make sure I shove any BFN down as far as they go in the garbage can so DH can't see.

  • Um, DH just gave me a hard time this morning about which garbage I use to dispose of the sticks... Looks like I am not shoving them down enough for him! Hahaha. He hates when there is "food garbage" in the bathroom garbage, and now I've learned also does not like it when there is an old OPK in the kitchen garbage... And here I am leaving them everywhere - there are so many, and sometimes I carry them around if it's going to take 5 whole minutes for the results. He is so particular sometimes! (My response: "Right, right. This is very serious garbage business.") ... not sure if anyone else is married to an engineer?  :p
  • @laurad75 I'm so sorry! That's so incredibly frustrating! Creepy Internet hugs to you.

    @karishoe Welcome!

@funkykey and @poemasque I feel the same way! It's actually gotten worse in the past couple of weeks. Really struggling after hitting 18 cycles. A friend just announced her pregnancy and I'm not sure I can stand to see her get bigger for the next 5 months. I'm even having a hard time looking at pictures of babies born to people who started trying when we did. Definitely a struggle for all of us. Sometimes I remind myself I don't know everyone's struggles and others I let myself wallow in self-pity. I think they're all fine and normal reactions. :-)
  • @funkykey I giggled out loud at your last response! serious business indeed!

@Bababatty definitely all normal, healthy reactions.

  • Still trying to get insurance straightened out so we couldn't do IUI this month but tried on our own. Not feeling hopeful as I ended up getting sick the week of ovulation. I was able to hit CD 12 13 and 14 but sometimes I ovulate a bit later latest was CD17. AF is due any day now. FX for you all!!!
  • So apparently not all my tests had come back yet.  The nurse called today to setup a follow up appointment now that everything is back.  I asked if the other tests had issues and she said not that she could see. I'm trying not to panic but I'm panicking.

  • Congrats to @Megzb510!

@seethosestars I'm on cycle day 9 of my second femara cycle. Hopefully this will be our month!

QOTW: The Finder was pretty interesting before it got cancelled. I'd love to see where they went with it. However I would bring back House in a heartbeat. (It wasn't cancelled, just ended.) I miss House  :(
  • I am CD 10. I've been on Metformin, a steroid, Clomid and Estrace. I had my follicle study today and it looked great! I had one follie that measured 20 (is it mm?) That the nurse was really enthusiastic about. They will let me know when they get the results of my LH blood work back when to trigger, but the nurse thought it would be tonight.

QOTW: allow me to show my nerd a little, but I wish there had been more seasons of Star Trek the Original series.

  • Still no AF I'm at day 30 I'm usually 28 day cycle but there have been times I've been 30 days so I'm not testing until at earliest Friday. I don't want to be dissapointed if I get a BFN. I do feel crampy like she's coming since last week on and off. My basal temp today was 98.16.
