Same, but MIL comes and finds me. I tell her it's ok one time when the baby is one week old and would have eaten for most of their entire visit if I didn't let her sit with me, and now it's a habit. I don't know if she thinks I need company or what, but both her and her MIL always seem to follow me wherever I go to breastfeed.

I'm all for people not caring when I sit and breastfeed in front of them, but it's not a spectator sport either!

  • Charlotte is on her second cold, luckily she didn't catch the last one but she's so snotty. Last night when she woke for a bottle she ended throwing up all over us because the mucus was draining into her throat.. I can only get so much mucus out of her and her last cold I feel like I was more on top of it or just luckier getting it out of her nose. But I just feel so bad for her, she's having such a hard time drinking because she can't breathe. Thank goodness there's no school tomorrow and after I make the kids breakfast I'm waking up my H and he can take of LOs. Oh and he's off all week so I guess that means he can just sleep till 10 everyday?!

I know right! We are visiting my parents so he sleeps in and I'm still getting up between 4:30am and 5:30am for Damien because, "Your parents are up too and can keep you company." Damien's cold is making him wake for the day super early fyi. Anyway, we had a night out with some friends last night and didn't get in until 1am and Damien was super noisy starting at 4:30am so I only got a couple of hours of sleep. Not a problem for my darling husband who slept like a rock until 9am. When he finally got up, I handed Damien over and told him he was on baby duty so I could nap.

Whenever Savannah has a cold we have her sleep in the rock n play for the incline and it seems to really help her sleeping, just a thought :)

I suggested it to my husband but he is wholly against him sleeping in it at night, no idea why! He naps in it all the time. He isn't very stuffed up though, thankfully, and his cough isn't bad either. I'd say it is a really mild case. I've toyed with moving him to the rnp during his MOTN feeding, not like my husband would know. We are at my parents' house this week and they don't have a rnp for him though.

I was against a lot until I got a baby that doesn't sleep! Haha DH feels the same way- she actually slept between us last night after a royal breakdown :#

They took my room. The damn facilities team at my office took my pumping room! To be fair, it wasn't actually a pumping room, it was an empty office, but it was empty! No one has used it since March and as far as I can tell no one is going to be using it either. I used it because I didn't want to go to the sick room that they also claim is worthy of their pumping room, and I can't pump in the stupid cube farm. In the empty office I could set up my computer, I could work while I pumped, and I could leave my stuff there so that I didn't have the full set up/tear down process of the pump 3 times a day. In the sick room I wouldn't be able to work, it would take me twice as long to pump because I'd have to cart the stuff to the room, organize it, and cart it back every time, and it's a public space! I think there is a lock on the door, but seriously the entire 400 person office can use that room. Not that being a working, pumping mother isn't already hard enough. I'm so over this

Edit: Luckily, we have an unlisted meeting room in our area as well that can't be booked by anyone that my very understanding team has offered to let me use when I need it. We hardly ever have meetings in there, we usually just yell over our cubes if we need anything. I feel stupid sitting in this large meeting space, but it's better than that sick room

That's good that you do have another option for now! by the way what is a sick room?? do sick people come to work?

I don't go back until Jan but I finally visited my work last week. The plus is we have a lactation room (i'd still have to do the whole carry/ setup/ takedown every time). The bad news is they renovated our  offices and the whole wall and door facing the floor is glass! i'll be working in a fish bowl so i can't just shut the door to pump.
I know I can't complain bc the lactation room is a really nice option. you have a little sofa surrounded by a curtain, and there is a fridge in their too.
  • This thanksgiving I'm thankful for my kids health. Today we had some devastating news about our nephew who is 4 months old and has been in the children's hospital since birth due to congenital deformities and heart problems. We learned that he suffered a massive stroke and may never walk or talk and will most likely be in diapers for life. My heart is broken for my BIL and my SIL, and I can't help feeling guilty, even though they are nothing but loving to and about my sweet baby. Wishing you all a happy, fun, safe and healthy Thanksgiving!!!
  • So I swear there was an HBDB thread for today and I even posted to it. Now it seems to have vanished.  Anyone else notice this? What happened? I was looking forward to seeing all of those cute faces! :(

Weird!  Yes there was one because I started it this morning!  Did admin delete it (not sure why they would)???
  • Every night has been progressively worse for us. We've been up since 12:30am since Damien was extra noisy and fussy and then he was up for the day at 4:30am....again. It doesn't help that we are on an uncomfortable air mattress. I think tonight we are going to take over the couches. So tired. It's been hard to enjoy the trip.

    Two things:
Anyone else's baby still on slow flow nipples?  Levi has been formula fed since 2 months.  He will be 5 months next week and just this last couple days I decided to move up to medium flow.  He is doing ok but still seems to struggle some.  He's not acting like he's drowning like last time I tried to switch but still spills a good amount.  I would think at this age, and having started solids (doing well), that this would have been an easy switch.

Also, I've had to start doing his neck exercises again.  I don't know if teething is contributing or what.  I probably hadn't done his exercises in a month then it was literally overnight his head was to the side again.  Thoughts?

Still using slow flow here.... I believe @adiaz132003 was the one who said there's no need to change the nipple size because breasts never get faster flow. Obviously this matters more for BF babies but it makes sense to me so I never bothered to buy the medium or fast flow nipples for her bottles.

Yup that was me.  Still using the same flow nipples here because babies sick gets stronger as they get bigger so really, why bother switching at all?  We haven't changed nipples at all and Preston is totally happy with that.
  • I've never changed the nipple size with any of my LOs, but you may need to replace those slow nipples at some point. One of boys was especially tough on his bottle nipples once he had teeth and I had to replace them. I really wish the large bottles came with the slow flow nipples.

We moved up a level simply because the formula we switched to was thickened. Poir Damien was working way to hard with the lower level. If we hadn't switched, we would probably stay on the lower one.

  • Yesterday was such a great day until we left for date night.  We wanted to see a movie but it was sold out so we went for drinks and as soon as we got there MIL called, Preston was screaming and she wanted to ask us how to handle it.  She didn't want to mess up his sleep routine bit we told her to do what it takes to calm him down.  We were a nervous wreck the rest of the night even though she texted us when he fell asleep.  We ended getting too tipsy and woke up with horrible hangovers and Preston decided to wake up at 6.  And we have family portraits today... Goody.
  • Am I the only one confused by how many weeks/months baby is!?  Lol. He's about to turn 24 weeks so I'm thinking 6 months but then it dawned on me that it can't be because there are 52 weeks in the year. So technically 24 weeks is 5 months. Do you guys go by their actual birth date? (I.e Ethan was born 6/14 so he would be 6 months on 12/14).

I was initially confused too and my husband had to explain it to me. The months are based on the date he was born (Damien was born on 6/17 so his month markers are always on the 17th). The weeks are basically a "different" count from the monthly one.
  • At this point it's easier to go by months, I can't believe all our babies will be turning 6 months next month! Where did time go?
  • Yeah I just use months at this point. I don't even know weeks.

Same- and in pregnancy I always used weeks because it was confusing then because 40 weeks = 10 months which didn't make sense haha

I was almost 2 weeks late, so the wonder weeks is yet another number to keep track of. I just track months. On the 26th it's a month, on the 10th is a 1/2.

  • My advice is to fight the urge to check up on her throughout the the day.  No phone calls, no checking the daycare live feed.  I banned myself for at least a week. Try to focus on work as much as you can.  I spent more time the week before crying than I did the week he actually started daycare.

Sending our little guy to daycare almost instantly turned him into a baby that slept longer at night and he is much more social in large groups of people.  It was also nice seeing a group of women excited to see your little one everyday and to see how at ease he was with them.

    Good luck to you!!

It is definitely tough. It does slowly get easier as you get used to the new routine, but I found myself crying the most when I finally got back home after work and was able to hold and cuddle him after not being with him all day.  The hardest thing I think for me was realizing that going to work and not being with him all the time was the new norm. I've been back to work for a little over 2 months now, and it still sucks, but I know going to daycare has its benefits, and he seems to enjoy it for the most part so that has made it a little easier, too.

I feel ya. I go back next week. It's going to take time to adjust to being a working mom outside of the house. Hope the day goes quickly for you!!!   <3
  • Made it through drop off (DH came thankfully).. Work has been so busy it's been easier than I anticipated. Currently pumping at work which is very odd but oh so necessary after 4 hours!  :D
