  • Haha yep, I was just thinking about how anxious I am. This will be the first child of the next generation in our family... so I'm interested to see reactions.
  • I'm nervous...I still don't know how I'm doing it and knowing me I'll be all "oh yea we're having a baby, pass the potatoes"
  • Lurking from May, but I'm on the cusp of groups with a due date of May 29th. I've already told a lot of people, but I'm excited to tell my grandparents who live in Florida today! *TW loss mentioned* I waited to tell them because we had 2 prior losses and I didn't want them to get their hopes up. But being at week 13 and hearing the heartbeat yesterday, I'm feeling really confident that this will be our take home baby! *end TW*

I'm considering announcing on facebook, but I'm not sure. On the one hand, it was hard for me to see facebook announcements when I was going through my TTC struggles, but I also get excited to see people's big life events (engagements, babies, moving, etc).

  • Can't wait to hear how it goes for everyone! Be sure to update us. :)
  • We told our family and close friends when I hit 12 weeks last weekend. But please tell me... I don't know this stuff since this is my first pregnancy, but how many weeks along do people usually go public? I've never been pregnant, or had a loss before, so I don't really know how all this works. I'm reading that some of you are announcing publicly as early as 10 weeks? But I thought it was safer to wait until 16+ weeks though? I thought I should wait until my 18 week anatomy scan but maybe I'm being too overly cautious?

  • It all depends on how you feel this is my first as well and I have ready a lot of people just wait until around 13 weeks after the first trimester it just depends on the person but what you want!

  • @wifeinraleigh28 My sister announced on fb at about 6 weeks or so I believe. She lives her life on there, so ymmv.
I also know people who seemed to suddenly have infants.
I personally want to wait a while, but I'm8+4 so who knows how I'll feel later!

  • @wifeinraleigh28 I think week 12 is traditionally "show and tell week". Your uterus starts to pop over your pubic bone creating a little bump and you tell friends/family. I waited until 12 weeks with my first. I'll be 13 weeks on Saturday and am announcing to my family today. But really, it's just a personal choice like PP said.
  • @Knottie42089123, omg tres leche cake is to die for, and that one is really cute! Good luck!

  • @JAGinMI - Thats adorable.   We told the family and have talked about it openly but haven't really told our 4yr old or 2yr old (they are pretty clueless, bless their hearts) yet because we want to  "publicly" announce in a couple weeks and I know they both will totally blow up our spot.

  • Everyone's announcements are so nice!

@Elizabethsbp I'm so sorry for the loss of your precious daughter. I cannot even imagine how difficult that must have been. Which did you end up using to announce? I loved the blanket and the photo of your daughter next to the text of her announcing she's going to be a big sister. I'm sure whatever you did was wonderful.

  • @rmarble23 I get so nervous in between scans too, and my next ultrasound won't even be until I'm 18 weeks! (anatomy scan). My last scan was at 11 weeks, so that's a really big gap. On Wednesday we get to listen to the heartbeat at my prenatal appointment though at least. I know I'm probably safe at this point (13 weeks) but I still get nervous about letting the world know.

  • Loving all the pics/stories. Due to our history we won't be announcing until/unless we get good news back from our NIPT. Hoping we'll be able to do a Christmas announcement. In the meantime, keep these stories coming please!

  • @wifeinraleigh28, I think the right  time to announce is really individual. Having gone through a loss that  very public due to how far along i was, I think of it like this- anyone I would want  know if I had a miscarriage, I tell early. We told one of my brothers the weekend we found out,  my parents shortly after that, and a few friends around seven or eight weeks. We know that those are the people whose support we would want if anything went wrong. Obviously something tragic can happen later in a pregnancy, but it is most likely before 10-12 weeks. If we have a healthy heartbeat at my 13 week appointment, and knowing that NIPT came back clear, we will tell the rest of the family after that. My dh is a pastor, and concerned church people really annoy me during  a pregnancy, so I will wait to go totally public until I am showing too much to hide it, but that is just personal circumstance lol.

We're telling extended family at Thanksgiving and then will probably go ahead and throw it on Facebook as well. We'll be 10 wks on Friday, but after hearing the heartbeat and seeing baby move around last Friday, I feel like we can go ahead and tell everyone.
Please tell me you're from NE? (Not to be super creepy or anything, but I felt like the lone Nebraskan.)
I totally missed this @Assiram42! Yes! We're lifelong Nebraskans!! :) Glad to have someone else from The Good Life here!

  • @halfthetree, super cute announcement!
  • We told our extended families on Thanksgiving and just announced on FB today. It does make me nervous to have it out there in the world now. I had an 11 week ultrasound that went great but I still can't help but worry. My next ultrasound isn't until January 25th. So that's a long stretch of not seeing what's going on in there!
  • @halfthetree so cute!!

We didn't announce on Thanksgiving because we wanted to tell DH's family in person. However we traveled to NJ and were able to share the news on Black Friday. So on Sunday we nervously shared with the world.
