Babymoon/Family Vacation

Re: Babymoon/Family Vacation

  • We did a babymoon with my first and my experience was that I was mostly frustrated by all the things I wasn't allowed to do, because pregnant, and exhausted the whole time. In hindsight, I would've been happier doing a staycation and spending less money. With that being said, I know plenty of people who did a baby moon and loved it. I'm just a homebody while pregnant. To each their own.

  • Just booked a trip late Feb/early March to England and Ireland.  Before baby we were plannign on going in June.  Now, its just going to happen a little early!  No one goes to Ireland for the weather... right?  Woot!!!

  • Some of you have some awesome trips planned! Enjoy! :)

My husband and I just moved back from a few years in west Africa this spring, where we were traveling each quarter, so we are happy to stick around home for a long while! So no babymoon for us... although I might tag along on a business trip to Chicago in January. So many cool places in the US I've never been!
  • As I was reading that article I was thinking that they didn't do a good job looking into the insurance policy beforehand. It does mention that the preexisting condition was a UTI before the pregnancy, which makes zero sense, but it also said there were 9 items and that was only one of them.
I feel terrible for them, but I personally wouldn't risk going out of the country that close to my due date and trusting a travel insurance policy. I am also a RN case manager and have dealt with these types of policies before, so I may me more informed than the average person when it comes to those things.

As far as a baby moon for us, we have a few trips planned this year but none are just the two of us. So we are planning on a long weekend at a resort within driving distance for our anniversary in April. We also already have a few trips planned for once baby arrives, so hopefully he or she is a good little traveler!

Well she did check with her doctor first and he said it was fine to travel at 31 weeks. I agree that the insurance company is just being stupid (UTI is NOT a pre-existing condition) and looking to save money, but it makes me worry that anyone could be denied. I am 35, so am I excluded for advanced maternal age? How can you be sure in advance that you are covered? It seems you can't.

I really wish there was an update on this story. Since I can't find one anywhere, I wonder if the insurance company paid and there is a non-disclosure agreement.

@ChrisLipstick I agree, and I also hope they paid. I have just been involved in so many negative situations with travel insurance, even if the doctor told me it was okay, I wouldn't go anywhere that I couldn't be covered by my regular policy. I think you would have to call and ask specifics and actually read over all of the exclusions and limitations of the policy to be sure. But even then it isn't a guarantee that they don't try to get out of it and make you put up a fight, which is the last thing you'd want to deal with after having a premature baby away from home!
  • I'm trying to figure out when we can do a Niagra Falls trip. I was also debating a Northern cruise, because I love them, but cruises are a bit more risky. My husbands schedule is tight so it's either going to be during the holiday break or we won't have another chance until March.
