@ChefRamsay you should feel blessed that you don't know what it is.
@Pinky917 It's brutal. And the worst thing about it is if you hear it once, it's stuck in your head ALL day. My H knows I hate it, and out of no where he'll just sing "sir I wanna buy these shoes...."
It drives me crazy to see people, especially other women, put down the Direct Sales industry. Why can't we support women who are working in any and every form? Do you post about the company you work for from time to time? Why can't they? If you don't like their products, don't buy them. But please don't put down what they do! They are just trying to share what they most likely love and is helping to support them/their family. If they are hounding you, ask them politely not to. If you're invited to a million parties, simply decline them.
Am I a consultant with a Direct Sales company, yes. Does it help my sanity as a SAHM to focus my energy in other places at times, yes. It allows me time for ME! It allows me to bring in some money to supplement DHs income for fun things like family pictures, yearly zoo passes, etc. Do I plan to get rich, no. Have other consultants made a lot of money with it, yes, and others haven't. I love the products, love sharing them, and love what it brings to our family.

@bumpybump that was well said. I think most ladies on here are referring to the sales people who take it too far with pressuring you, etc. but personally I don't have anyone on my social media who goes too far so I don't mind it.
@bumpybump As much as I may not want to work as part of one, if it works for someone, all the power to them. I do hate when people pressure their friends to buy or join - or invite everyone on their FB page to a party, even if they live across the country.
As someone who is trying to build my own small business, I agree - business pages are great!
Except for a few people who were already douches, I don't have a problem with the people who are doing 'direct sales'.
My problem lies with the companies that are targeting and exploiting people who are typically women who don't have the money to lose on these schemes. Beachbody is pretty much the only one that targets men, too. I think that the companies take advantage of people and more often than not, people spend more (sometimes significantly) than they ever make or save. Been there, done that. Lost about $500 when I really didn't have $500 to lose.
In addition, I have problems with what they pressure people to do. Things like 75% of the people who friend me on Facebook anymore are people who I know but am not really friends with. Momentarily, I'll be flattered. Then I'll see that they're in direct sales and that's why they friended me. Or I'll see that I have a message from a friend you haven't heard from in a long time and I'll momentarily be happy to see they're thinking of me. Then I see that they've been pressured to recruit more people. Then there are the times where they're encouraged to kind of shame women who work outside the home. And that doesn't include the text they have these women post on Facebook that turns them from sounding the smart people I know into total idiots who are just blown away that when someone put this magic elixir on these chapped lips before bed, in the morning, they're so soft! Look at these amazing pictures!!! Yeah, that's kind of how it works when you put stuff on your lips before bed. Even when it's just classic $5 Neutrogena.
Sure, they work well for some people but I think that for the most part, the companies work for themselves with little regard for what they actually do to the people they recruit as distributors. It's the same thing as many of the fundraisers they have kids do. Sell all of this insanely overpriced crap and you could earn this awesome whatever. Tell you what, kid, spend ten hours doing work for me around the house and I give you half the money and you can buy that thing and give the other half to the school and everyone except for that company will be money ahead.
Also, I read an article that talked about the baby on board signs and interviewed the inventor. It was originally created for the 'go ahead and drive dangerously around everyone else but this car has a baby in it' reason.
ETA: The reasoning behind not generally commenting on the grad thread is to keep it from being cluttered by repetitive "H & H 9 months!" comments. It's almost like when comments are always welcomed, people feel like jerks if they don't post something but without a really good connection with someone, you kind of run out of new stuff to say. So then everyone goes with the "H & H 9 months!" and then it loses its sincerity and impact and the whole thing gets clogged up. So a lovetit pretty much = Congrats/H & H/etc. And it's not that people aren't happy for regular posters who get BFPs in 3 months or less or that it stings, it's just that frankly, it usually hasn't been that hard on them so it's not like I'm going, "Ahhhhhhh! OH MY GOODNESS! It's finally happening for you!!! YAY!" More just, "That's nice. Good for her."

@bumpybump I don't have an issue with direct sales in general but I do have a problem with randos coming out of nowhere (esp on favebook( pretending to suddenly be interested in my life but really they have an agenda of selling me something. I don't appreciate that and unfortunately it has happened to me. I think it gives direct sales in general a bad name. I got so turned off to the point where I have shut down and don't want to hear it from anyone. Sad thing is I would normally buy something on a recommendation of a person I know socially!! I wonder if that is something these companies can fix to be more successful.

Since we're talking about being sold things; I don't really like girl scout cookies. They are gross and overpriced and normally it's the kid's patents selling them. I absolutely refuse to buy cookies from a parent.

It's funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most...not where you live, or what you drive, or the price tag on your clothes... There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind, this I've come to know! *ZBB*

@kiki75@eggplantface Sorry you had such a bad experience when you signed up with a company. Luckily, I've not had that experience with the company I'm with. (@saralee797) And yes, some people have no etiquette and will do anything for a sale. Even I have gotten numerous random friend requests where I have one mutual friend or invites to events and I always respond kindly telling them that I'm not interested (and yes, I've blocked persistent people). I always ask anyone who hosts an event with me to not randomly invite/add people to their event. Personalized, heartfelt, invites are the only way to go and to people who you actually know!
@NYTino24 by no means was I saying emergency personnel don't still check a vehicle. My grandfather, dad, uncle, cousins, and brother were all or still are on fire departments. I have a cousin who is the Sheriff back where I grew up. I look at it similar to the stickers in the bedroom windows to alert them but not be the end all be all. And although it was not their original intent, they have evolved in to an "alert" in some form. FTR, no I do not have one on my vehicle. I also don't care for the stick figures at all. Those are just braggy, dumb, and serve no true purpose. If they keep re-adding you to an event, I'd seriously send them a message asking them to stop. That's just poor business and friend etiquette.
