I don't like decorating for holidays. The only time I do it is for Christmas. It's just so time consuming both setting it up and taking it all down. Plus it's so short lived. I like looking at it but that's it. I also think it can be overdone (like my MIL's house for EVERY holiday...yuck).

I'm usually much too passive to participate in the UO thread but this morning I on my commute I saw a mini-van with a giant decal with a cartoon baby face that said 'Baby in the car'. So effing what? I should be extra careful driving around your tank that may or may not have a child in it? I promise you I am going to do everything I can to not get into an accident with you regardless of whether there is a baby on board.

@laurad75 I used to hate them too but they serve a good purpose. Those decals and the yellow diamond signs that say the same are actually a means to alert emergency personnel that there's a child in the car. Technically they should be removed when a baby/child isn't in the car but I don't think most people do that.

Mine is I LOVE Black Friday shopping. I know most people hide out or shop online, but there are 4 women in my family who get up earlyish (not crazy early) and hit one of the malls near us around 7am. We have so much fun and have a planned route and a whole routine. I look forward to it every year.
I think we should be happy for anyone here who is a regular contributor that gets a BFP, whether they've been here one month or 14. I know it's not easy, especially when some of us have been here for a good amount of time, but everyone here deserves the congrats if they're posting and supporting the community.
ETA- @lulu1180 I've always wanted to get the female stick figure and about thirty of the cat decals. We do have three cats, and I wish I could have thirty, but alas DH doesn't agree. Maybe you could get one of the decals with the T-Rex eating the stick figure family?
@ColoradoHiker It's not that we aren't happy for those that get their bfp after a month or two but when you've been trying for so long with no results, it's sometimes tough to see so many people who have been trying for several months less than you on the grad thread. In other words, we are happy for them but it still stings sometimes.
Also, I saw a car at my office that has an australian cattle dog eating a stick figure family. I definitely lol'd!

@bumpybump agreed. I don't mind doing a little decorating, but anything beyond a tree feels like a completely unnecessary chore.
@JulesDP YUP. And, honestly, I feel that most Black Friday deals aren't actually that great anymore - it's like they lie about the normal retail price to make the "sale" price look better than it is.
@coloradohiker I don't think anyone isn't happy or refuses to give congratulations. We're just sad for ourselves. And honestly if women are struggling to feel happy that is a perfectly acceptable emotion.
@adirat and @lulu1180 , I totally agree. It is more than acceptable to struggle to be happy, especially when someone has been trying for a lot longer than whoever got the BFP. I haven't been here very long at all, and I still feel it when others post their BFPs.
My UO (or maybe others agree) is that I can't stand network marketing businesses or distributor based businesses. I've found that SOOOOO many women in my tiny, rural town fall for this crap. And then I get 38982 invites to "parties" every month. The crazy thing is that a ton of women actually go to these parties and buy a ton of stuff. I guess it's fine to support each other, but I think it's really dumb and annoying.
My UO is that I love hosting Thanksgiving!! I'm already so giddy and excited thinking about it. I'm cooking everything for 12 of us and having my parents bring the alcohol and the inlaws bring an appetizer spread

@LuND Are you talking about things like Mary Kay and tupperware type parties? I'm kind of surprised that they're still so popular, tbh.
YES! Isn't it ridiculous?!? In addition to Mary Kay and tupperware, now it's candles, supplements/diet products, LulaRoe clothes (so ugly), home decor.....
Small, rural ND towns are generally behind the times, and the residents seem to be more gullible.
@laurad75 I used to hate them too but they serve a good purpose. I don't think this is actually true. I think some parents may think that this will be the case but emergency personnel check for anyone - children, babies, adults in the cars no matter what. It's automatically something they will do.

Have you seen the most recent John Oliver bit about MLMs? It's horrible how nearly all of these people end up losing tons of money or working their asses off just to break even.
@LuND I agree! I can't stand them. I think a very very very small percentage of people actually make decent money, but only the ones that get in early and have a ton of others underneath them but the ones at the bottom are basically giving money to all above them. Hence the whole pyramid scheme aspect ps. I never know if I'm tagging your name correctly because it doesn't auto poopulate

I think the reason behind not posting congrats comments in the grad thread is that it clogs up the thread so the actual BFPs get kind of lost in the shuffle. I'm indifferent to the format either way.
@LuND I used to be part of an MLM company (Slumber Parties) and you are 100% right, they suck, but not because of the products, but because of the business plan. It's a scam for the women who become consultants; they make it sound like you'll make your money back so fast but really, no, you won't. You have to keep buying stuff every month and you never crawl out of the financial hole. Unless you can devote all of your time to it, you'll end up having to quit and lose a lot of money. Like I did. And they call it "owning your own business" but it's not yours, it's theirs. There are a million rules. I couldn't even sell off my inventory when I quit because of their rules (I ended up breaking them and putting it on ebay anyway). Plus yeah, you alienate friends with your sales pitches. I had a friend from college message me and I was all excited to hear from her, but then her message was just about buying some skin care products, and they were insanely expensive!
However, I do buy products from those companies, because I love Mary Kay's eye make up remover and I like the LuLaRoe dresses (although yeah, some are really ugly, which makes me wonder if the consultants are stuck with the ugly ones when they don't sell, and the company doesn't give them any say in which patterns they get!). It doesn't hurt the consumer to buy the products, but it can hurt the women selling it.

@eggplantface TBH I'm a "distributor" for a vitamin/supplement company. However, there was no investment up front, no minimum order(s), and no requirements aside from a $25/year fee. I just signed up because I really like the products and can get them cheaper if I'm technically a distributor. It's more like Sam's Club because of the low yearly fee, and I easily make up the $25 in savings on the products I buy for myself.
Years ago someone convinced me to be an Arbonne consultant for a hot minute.... then I realized how dumb it was and quit.

@lund You are definitely not alone with your opinion on MLMs. I lost a friend because she was borderline harassing me to become a rodan and fields rep. She got really annoyed with me because I would join a recruitment call even though if I called in she would 'get a really nice bag'.
That being said, I think there are some that aren't quite as terrible. I like BeautyCounter products and as far as I know they do not aggressively recruit like some of the others.

@LuND That sounds like a decent deal though. Is that Beach Body? I also am curious as to why these companies use this business model if not to scam money from people. Couldn't LuLaRoe very easily make a website from which people buy what they want, and not force consultants to buy from them up front? Mary Kay has a website, but they're assigned to individual consultants, so it's ecommerce for the consultant, not the company. I'll have to watch the John Oliver clip at home (blocked at work).

@bumpybump I'm the same. I hate clutter and I feel like putting out holiday knick knacks are just clutter. Plus, it's a lot of work to put out, then put away, not to mention having to store everything. I'll just stick to our Christmas tree and a nice wreath on the door. Bah Humbug.
My UO: I think Christmas music should only be played the week of Christmas. It drives me crazy to hear it now, in November. By the time Christmas rolls around I'm so sick of it. We have a radio station here that plays Christmas music non-stop starting Nov 1, and it makes me want to blow my brains outs. How many different versions of Jingle Bells can there be?!? Don't even get me started on 'The Christmas Shoes' song.....
@laurad75 about the baby on board stickers- once my H told me he is actually more careful driving around a car with one of those decals. At first I was like, "oh wow that's so sweet" and then I started thinking about and ended up yelling at him because he should always be driving as carefully as possible!
I haven't ordered without being a distributor for so long, so I checked to see how non-distributors order. It looks like it asks you for your distributor's name or who referred you, but I'm not sure it's required. I know that distributors can create a website, but it's not required and I haven't done that.
And yeah, you'd think that pretty much all of these companies could just have websites.... but I suppose a lot of their profit comes from making their distributors buy product in bulk.
Re: Baby on Board signs -I was always taught they were for accidents where the babies/tiny humans could have been ejected so the emergency personel would know they're looking for a baby. Not that the emergency people wouldn't do a thorough search, but like... if the car was super smashed and on fire, they'd check under the seats and stuff for babies. I'm indifferent on them though.
@eggplantface the don't have regular ecommerce websites because then they'd need to hire actual employees and give benefits... under this model they don't need to provide the people selling their products anything. It's much cheaper for the business to stay afloat.
that being said, I strongly dislike them, I've never been a consultant, and I refuse to attend any parties... even when asked by close friends.
@antoto I want to see Ghostbusters so bad, but DH refuses because he's heard it's so bad!!

@MaMinette13 My husband and I both loved the new Ghostbusters, and he said that he thinks the men on the internet who hated it "probably are just sexist and hate any movie with women because they're women." So, you know, men liked it too.
It's objectively a funny movie.
