R/R: Dr. Update (yes, this is long so feel free to skip ahead!): So I had my
appointment this morning to discuss my pre-menstrual spotting. I showed her my
spread sheet and stated my concerns. This was the first time seeing this GYN,
but I have to say that I really like her and she listened to my concerns and
addressed them all. I thought that my periods were irregular (thanks FF for
pointing that out!), but she said everything was in normal range. I’ve been
tracking my periods for over three years and I’ve noticed an increase in
spotting days before my period actually starts. When I was discussing this with
her, she noted that while my spotting may start a few days early, the total
length of period is about seven days, so within normal range. Also, when I
first started tracking my period, I don’t think I separated out spotting days
versus period days (the first day of spotting I considered the start of my
period). I asked about potential causes, mentioning progesterone and luteal
phase defect, and essentially she said that there hasn’t been consensus on
whether supplemental progesterone actually makes a difference to lengthen the LP and that LP defect is more difficult to diagnose and doesn’t rely just on
progesterone levels. Yes, if you have low progesterone, you’ll have difficulty
sustaining a pregnancy. So, if I do get KU, I’ll ask to have that
checked right away (if only for peace of mind). She didn’t think that hormone
testing at this point would be helpful. She did schedule me for a pelvic
ultrasound to check for uterine polyps, but that’s not until next month (she didn't find anything on exam).
Overall, I was happy with the appointment and she reassured my fears a bit. She
did ask whether there were fertility issues on either side and I mentioned that
my FIL had low sperm count (I haven’t been able to find anything scientific
about whether that is hereditary or not). My DH also had a surgical procedure
when he was young because he wasn’t emptying his bladder completely, so I mentioned
that. He also has had a small bump on his testicle that has been there years
and he got it checked quite some time ago (nothing was wrong at the time).
Nothing has changed with it, but I might see if he would be willing to get it
checked out again.

GTKY: What is something that most people don't know about
you?
Hmmm, this is a tough question!
Me: 31 DH: 32 Dating since: 11/17/2001 Married: 9/26/2009 TTC: June 2016
ColoradoHiker : Yeah, my family does not live near us and DH's mom will not be a real option for child care, so we wouldn't need to really give them a heads up. It's tough, I actually adore children and I am very affectionate when around them, but I do not openly talk about the excitement of motherhood or raising children, it's just not my personality type. Also, DH and I have been together for 15 years, so at this point, I think most people assume we are not going to have children...so it will probably be a huge surprise for people if/when I get pregnant and announce it.
WAYDTGKU: charting cm and my mood (mood is always my biggest tell). Eod sex when I know I'm close to ovulation.
R/R:
CS/Q: does anyone get super moody around ovulation instead of during PMS? I feel so out of control, it's why I went in bcp, and as much as I want another, this sucks for me and my husband.
GTKY: What is something that most people don't know about you? I suffer from pretty nasty anxiety. I'm good at hiding it, so most people don't know unless it comes up somehow.
@swimsister and @LuND Haha, I know right. It's after I pluck. Every two to three hairs I pluck out, I sneeze. Then I can pluck a couple more, then sneeze. Etc. It's weird but never injured me yet fortunately!
@BertieMeetsGertie I'm glad your appointment was a positive experience and you have a next step of an ultrasound. I didn't remember that about your husband -- have you considered having him do an SA earlier on than a year? My acupuncturist recently told me they only cost about $200 so it may be worthwhile for peace of mind.
Also, I have to say I'm a little surprised your doctor didn't want to do bloodwork since that's relatively easy/non invasive but the ultrasound is hopefully going to shed some light!
@adirat I meant to comment before but totally forgot. Plucking makes me sneeze too! I am pretty excited to find someone else who does since it just seemed so weird to me!
@BertieMeetsGertie I'm so glad to hear that your appointment went well! It's so nice to find a GYN that you like and that really takes time to talk to you and address your concerns!

GTKY: What is something that most people don't know about you? A lot of people are always surprised when they find out I grew up signing. So I am pretty decent at conversational sign. My brother is deaf, and so is his wife, but both of their children are hearing. Thanks, ladies! @adirat I asked twice about bloodwork and basically she said it wasn't necessary at this point. I don't think she was really opposed to it and I think I didn't push too hard because she recommended an ultrasound. Now if that comes back clear (FX it does!), I might see whether we can check the hormones. Since she has a plan of action I'll roll with it for now. She said that we were doing everything right and it can take some time, which of course I already knew. Regarding DH and SA, I haven't asked but I think I might see how he feels about doing it. Given his profession, it's hard for him to take off work so it would be difficult to schedule unless it's a few weeks/month out.

@JuneRoseRuby Oh no! So sorry to see you here. Our dpo team was all bad luck.
@BertieMeetsGertie and @JuneRoseRuby I've been looking into SA so here's what I know. Any doctor can prescribe an SA at a lab but you have to check first where it can be done (for instance the Labcorp near my work does it but not the one near my home). Some labs only accept deposits completed at home while others have a room to do it on site. Doctor's offices that do it (like REs) usually have a room on site. I'd recommend looking into the "where" question in advance so you know your options and can tell the doctor where you would like to go if they aren't sure. A pcp or endocrinologist may not know where to go but can still prescribe it.
In my case, my gynecologist wrote a referral for my husband to get an SA at a fertility clinic near her office, but he doesn't want to go into Manhattan for it so he's going to try to find a lab near our apartment. (eye rollllll)
Also, my gyno said you want it to specify count, motility, and morphology -- not just count.
I believe that they have to look at the sample basically immediately so I can't imagine it would take long for your doctor to get the results.
@JuneRoseRuby H's SA was ordered through our RE testing but he went the very same week. You have to abstain for 2 days prior. They gave him the cup at the appt and he took it home with him. Otherwise, you can make arrangements to do it at the office but my H felt like that was weird. You have to drop off the sample within the hour then it takes about two weeks to get ALL the results. I believe volume/count and motility came back right away but we had to wait on morphology. H didn't really complain about it at all. Good luck!!
ETA: by right away, I meant two days but that is pretty much the case with all results through my doctor.
@adirat ugh DPO buddies was a bust! Thanks for the sympathy
@Saralee797 I'm sure my H will be mortified to have to do it in the office. I have a list of questions on my phone to bring into the appt with me. I decided I am not going to show it to him before the appt so that he does't feel anxiety about the appt. I am in a weird space about it. I want answers and for there to be a reason that nothing has happened yet, but of course I do not want it to be something difficult. I want it to be something easy like oh here, just take this supplement and it will fix it right up and then get KTFU the next month!

@adirat@Saralee797 thanks for the info! I'll try to talk to DH tonight, AFTER BD! Part of me thinks he won't want to do it until we hit a year mark, but maybe I'm wrong. If he agrees, I'll contact my gyn to see if she would order it or if his primary needs to do it.

@JuneRoseRuby so sorry to see you back over here. Hugs. I meant to tell you the other day when it came up in the TWW thread... I too grew up in Rochester NY! what a small world!. Like the other ladies have said anyone can order an SA. if his endocrinologist is in a hospital they should be able to take the sample, and it does not take long to get results. If they don't already they could check basic blood work on DH (a CBC/Chem). If you wanted to get basic testing done you could talk to your GYN about routine blood work and then getting other things like LH/FSH/progesterone done. It also couldn't hurt to talk to your GYN about a referral to an RE since your close to a year (some RE's you can get in right away, others you have to wait months).... I wish getting KTFU could be as easy as take this pill and it magically happens or that we could all be "easy breeders".

@wabash15 Thanks! Funny you were in Rochester! I grew up in Chili. My parents are still there. I am in Philly now, so waits for REs are not all that long. There are a lot of options around here. I do not think that I am the issue, I had a beautiful chart last month. My H has diabetes which has a trifecta of possible fertility issues. So I am hoping doing the SA will help to give some direction. He does get some blood work done every three months, but I am not sure that they check testosterone every time, which is known to be low in type 1 diabetes. Seriously. This whole TTC thing makes me wish I never tried so hard to prevent it for so long.

It's our last night of conferences and the end of the marking period! I'm lurking and reading, but not participating much because we have very little data left until the 18th, having anxiety, and I'm having problems with both hands due to too much phone and typing. Gotta save what little strength I have left for work typing. Gotta get in for some acupuncture. Love you all!

MH and I will be together for a total of one day in my FW. For all of the cycles that we've had pretty good timing and nothing happened, I don't hold out any hope that -3 timing is going to result in anything. So this month is pretty much just an exercise in futility. Every other cycle we've been able to figure out okay timing through ridiculous scheduling and travel. This one just isn't going to work.

R/R: Dr. Update (yes, this is long so feel free to skip ahead!): So I had my appointment this morning to discuss my pre-menstrual spotting. I showed her my spread sheet and stated my concerns. This was the first time seeing this GYN, but I have to say that I really like her and she listened to my concerns and addressed them all. I thought that my periods were irregular (thanks FF for pointing that out!), but she said everything was in normal range. I’ve been tracking my periods for over three years and I’ve noticed an increase in spotting days before my period actually starts. When I was discussing this with her, she noted that while my spotting may start a few days early, the total length of period is about seven days, so within normal range. Also, when I first started tracking my period, I don’t think I separated out spotting days versus period days (the first day of spotting I considered the start of my period). I asked about potential causes, mentioning progesterone and luteal phase defect, and essentially she said that there hasn’t been consensus on whether supplemental progesterone actually makes a difference to lengthen the LP and that LP defect is more difficult to diagnose and doesn’t rely just on progesterone levels. Yes, if you have low progesterone, you’ll have difficulty sustaining a pregnancy. So, if I do get KU, I’ll ask to have that checked right away (if only for peace of mind). She didn’t think that hormone testing at this point would be helpful. She did schedule me for a pelvic ultrasound to check for uterine polyps, but that’s not until next month (she didn't find anything on exam). Overall, I was happy with the appointment and she reassured my fears a bit. She did ask whether there were fertility issues on either side and I mentioned that my FIL had low sperm count (I haven’t been able to find anything scientific about whether that is hereditary or not). My DH also had a surgical procedure when he was young because he wasn’t emptying his bladder completely, so I mentioned that. He also has had a small bump on his testicle that has been there years and he got it checked quite some time ago (nothing was wrong at the time). Nothing has changed with it, but I might see if he would be willing to get it checked out again.

R/R:
CS/Q: does anyone get super moody around ovulation instead of during PMS? I feel so out of control, it's why I went in bcp, and as much as I want another, this sucks for me and my husband.

ETA: by right away, I meant two days but that is pretty much the case with all results through my doctor.

R/R: I'm taking this one pretty hard. I'm just crushed. Plus, it's not like I can even really hitch on to the "Okay, that's alright. Next cycle. It's gonna be a winner." that I normally do.

@BertieMeetsGertie So glad your new doctor eased some of your fears.
@Pinky917 @adirat I am also an eyebrow plucking sneezer!
@JuneRoseRuby DH just had his SA and it was ordered by the urologist who performed his VR. We had to abstain for 3 days. He did the test at home and got our results back in 1 week. A friend of mine had her DH have his at a fertility clinic and they had sameday results. I think it really depends on who orders and the type of lab. GL !
