Infertility

Reintroduction

I introduced myself a while back and shared some of my story.  I have PCOS, my husband has low sperm count.  He was put on Clomid so I continued to read the boards for encouragement, but haven't had much to say.  Well - after being on Clomid, adjusting the dosage, and finally redoing his SA, we found out his count is now even lower.  Additionally, motility went from slightly low to 0.

I had previously been told IVF/ICSI was our only option, but my RE's office is now telling me we can't do it since there is no motility.  We were told to consider adoption or donor sperm, which I am going to start looking into more.   My husband goes back to the urologist next week, so I'm hoping he has some answers for us.  I'm also considering scheduling a consult with a new RE to get another perspective on everything.

As I wait - I'm wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar? Thanks in advance for your input!

Re: Reintroduction

  • Hello Annie,
I'm sorry you are going through all this.
I'm  suffering with pcos too, my RE has prescribed me 1500mg metformin per day n letrozol from cd3 tk cd7.
  • @Annie034 my husband was also put on clomid, and like yours, it also made things way worse for him. The urologist had told him to take it. I want to say he was on it for 4 months or so. when we finally got in to see a fertility specialist, he was told to stop taking it immediately. The frustrating part is there was no suggestions for something to take that would help. His analysis looked better after he had been off the clomid for a few months. Since then, we have taken it upon ourselves to get a product from a vitamin shop that is supposed to increase testosterone, which is suppose to help with counts and motility. At our next IUI I can let you know if it's actually helped or not since they check his counts before the IUI. How long has it been since he's been off clomid? I wish there were doctors out there that tried to solve the root of a problem first before jumping straight to medication that then makes things worse!!!

  • OGreat He has been off the Clomid for about two months.  Do you mind sharing what product your husband has been using?  I hope it works for your next IUI!  We were told by my RE that this urologist is "the best," but the fact that we are now worse off and unable to even try IVF/ICSI is incredibly frustrating.
  • That does sound awful. I'm really starting to believe in more natural medicine, with modern medicine as a filler rather than the other way around. The product we bought to try is called LifeExtension Super Miraforte. My DH only takes one every other day or so even though it says to take 2 a day. What we were looking for was something with zinc and maca root. Before taking it though, I would check to see what your DH's testosterone levels are first. If he already has good levels, then it would be just as bad to make them go higher I would think. I hope that helps!
