How long after birth, if at all, do you take PNVs?

Re: Prenatals how long?

  • I think it depends on if your going to breast feed or not...

  • If you BF, it is good to take them at least as long as you do that.
  • I will be taking them the entire time I'm breastfeeding.

  • I took them as long as I nursed.
  • I don't plan on stopping them as long as I'm in my child-bearing years.

I started them when we got married in 2006.

My doc says every woman in child-bearing years, who is sexually active, should take them.

I agree, they are very good for you. I like them better than the regular woman's vitamins.

    In case you get pregnant.

  • They provided the needed folic acid that you should have in your system if you conceive.

    Ditto.

  • Studies have shown that folic acid is most optimal for development when you have been taking it for 3 months prior to conception, that's why drs. rec all women of child-bearing age to take them. Although, you don't have to take as much as in the prenatals, I think 400mg is good enough
  • Yeah, I think that all" women's" vitamins have 100% RDA of folic acid for that reason.  Prenatals just have more.
