Weekly Appointments 11.7

Re: Weekly Appointments 11.7

  • I was in L&D again yesterday.  Had a headache from tuesday night on that I couldn't kick.  Headaches are taken very seriously with a history of pre-e and climbing blood pressure.  They gave me some meds, pain came down and the BP did a bit as well.  Growing slightly tired of this dance of walking the line about my health.  Panels have stayed clear - which is great but I don't want to end up with another life threatening situation by deciding to keep them in another few days longer.  The stress is starting to get to me.

  • @difazette yuck. It doesn't sound like yesterday was a fun day for quite a few of us. Another woman was brought in for high Bp while I was there yesterday and they were telling her to stop working and wrote her a prescription. I heard her stressing about missing work on the phone after they left. :/

As we're getting down to the wire the stakes are definitely getting higher. Did they have any advice going forward for you between appointments? How many days/weeks until your CS?

  • @Austenista nothing other than keep doing what I'm doing.  I'm pretty tuned in to what my body is doing so keep letting them know when I feel poorly. I have a growth scan, NST and doc visit on Monday.  They're ready to pull the trigger whenever we need to, but elevated BP is not a 'signifigant' reason.  It's not severe enough...so we wait, and hope it doesn't nearly kill me again.  The goal still remains a scheduled cesarian on nov 22.  12 days away.

  • @DiFazette Good news that you are still holding out from Pre-E, but I think at this point your doc should seriously start considering YOUR health. Both mental and physical. While I have no doubt that you are mentally capable of lasting the next 12 days, but your physical health is starting to be jeopardized, and not just 'until the twins are out'. Even Superheroes get time off to heal and recuperate.
Did they give you an idea of what would have to happen before they move your RCS date up?

  • @Kate08Young I'd have to be Dx with something greater than gestational hypertension or the babies would have to be in distress.  I told the doc on call for my practice yesterday that toeing the line was giving me legitimate anxiety.  She agreed that we're toeing the line right now but they ALL believe (as they've discussed my case numerous times over the past few weeks) that if pre-e was going to present it most likely would have already.  I need to keep pressures in my 'safe' range and pass my panels - as long as that is happening, babies are better in than out.  I completely agree, but we're flirting with disaster and that's exhausting.

  • @DiFazette I've been dealing with the same thing. 6 trips to l&d in the last 4 weeks for blood pressure and/or migraines. but my panels keep coming back clear and things aren't "bad enough" yet. it's mentally draining!

  • @sourlemon forgive my placenta brain... did you have previous BP/Pre-e issues?

Well then, good on us for not getting pre-e this time, I guess, right?!  I was Dx with severe pre-e at 30 weeks and delivered at 34 last time so it's a hell of a wonder with two placentas I'm still carrying these two!

How are you keeping it together?  I'm annoyed and so is H - not in a bad way but in a - 'why are we going to let this get out of control again?', way.

  • I'm trying to take it day by day. I've told my boss any day may be my last with how often I've been sent to the hospital. I check my blood pressure 6 times a day because I'm so worried about it. I went from no problems at 39 weeks last time to severe pre e and actually flatlined during labor at 39 +3 so it changed terribly fast.

I know the doctors are watching it and have told me to call if I get more than 2 measurements over 140/90 in a day...so far I've been hanging out around 125/85 unless it's a headache day then it's closer to 135/85. I've only hit their threshold a few times while in the hospital.

I'm just frustrated. as much as I want the baby to finish growing, the anxiety is getting bad. which probably doesn't help the blood pressure.

  • @sourlemon yes!  I remember that now!  They've got you at a really low threshold - do they know what caused you to flatline or is a mysterious thing so they're trying to avoid even mildly elevated BPs?  Let's you and I not die this time, okay?  Consider this our virtual handshake.

@DiFazette it's unknown officially but my new doctor thinks it was more from labor not going well, being given drugs to stop labor multiple times when things got bad, using other drugs to rapidly restart labor as soon as I was stable...more than strictly because of the blood pressure. I'll never really know everything that happened.

That's just the threshold to call them and possibly go for monitoring. he said they wouldn't do anything until it got higher or the pre e panels weren't good. I think it's so low just because of how quickly it went bad last time. but I was sent to l&d 2 weeks ago when it was 138/88...so not even their official threshold. but 2 weeks prior my bp was 95/55 so it was a huge jump.

Nope, no dying this time! handshake accepted and I expect the same of you!

  • Just left my 35 week appointment. Nothing interesting to report. They said I'm right on the cusp for the gbs swap so decided to do it next appointment. They wanted it to be 1.5 weeks away but with Thanksgiving in there they didn't have any appointments to fit my work so I won't go back for 2.5 weeks. Makes me a little nervous to wait that long, but the bright side is that I'll probably only have one or two appointments left now!
  • Had my 36 wk appt today: strep test and cervix exam. doc says she thinks i will go early based on my measurements  :o exciting/terrifying! we still have so much to do! eek!

Bp and weight are good. 60% effaced but no dilation yet. and now we wait...

  • Had my 37 week appt. Thursday...pretty standard all around.  No protein in my sample this time and the lab work she had me do for the trace amount they found last time was fine too.  Also my GBS test from last week was negative (yay!).

  • Tried posting this yesterday but the bump site locked up on me.
had my 34 week appt with one of the nurse midwives this morning. BP up a little from my normal, but she said not to be concerned as some natural rising is normal in third tri. i mentioned my first pregnancy issues and she still said not to be alarmed, that i could check it at home if i like and when to call/come in. She asked about headaches and vision changes and I mentioned the metallic floaters and the periodic random dizziness and she said I need more protein. Totally forgot to mention all the palpitations but I think they are just pvcs still. we talked about birth and labor, confirmed that i would require CFM once i hit 4cm (i don't plan on being at the hospital before 4 cm!) and that only 2 rooms have tele available- of course they are the same rooms with the labor tubs. she said all the rooms were wired but the hospital hasn't bought enough equipment yet. :(  of course that's not changed since 4 years ago when I had DD2.  All in all not a bad appointment, I go back on the 28th for a BPP and 37 week f/u. I assume they'll also do the GBS but I forgot to ask.
