TTC After a Loss

Thankful Thursday

edited September 2016 in TTC After a Loss
While I love a good bitchfest (and am often the first one at the table!), I am going to use today to ask y'all what you are grateful for?!

I have found that a little gratitude goes a long way when we are so easily pulled towards all the negatives in our lives and the world around us.

Re: Thankful Thursday

  • For me - I am soooo grateful that my counter tops will be installed tomorrow and that then there are only little, piddly things left to do to put our kitchen back together (reno started first week in August)! I will have a kitchen sink again!

I am grateful that I saw my parents last week. They live nearby (about an hour away), but I have been quite withdrawn over the past year and have only seen them a couple of times, but they stopped by my work to give me hugs and visit a little while. It was so nice.

I am also grateful that the candidate I am voting for in the election did well at the debate. I was nervous, but watching it confirmed my support and belief that there is only one candidate who is qualified to do this job.

I am happy that I get to have lunch with DH on occasion (including today). We work close to one another and if schedules permit, we meet at one of our favorite spots and enjoy a break in the day together.

Finally, I will close with the fact that I love my adopted hometown. I will celebrate 15 years here this December and I can't imagine living anywhere else. It has its issues, as all communities do, but it's still my favorite place.

  • I'm thankful for heating as all of a sudden is getting cold here haha!

@fivetimesnoluck that's very sweet of your parents and it's nice you are living in a place you enjoy.

  • Today I am thankful that our trip to Charleston to visit family coincides perfectly with my tww and will keep me preoccupied. It will be difficult because I foolishly start testing at 9dpo (read 8dpo) every month and we will arrive home the night of 10dpo. I'm trying to tell myself not to bring any tests but honestly I just don't know if I can do it. I'm going to try my hardest!

  • @MimoCa where are you that it's already cold? I'm in SE Georgia, along the coast and it's still quite warm here. 80s and 90s during the day! Glad you have heat and wishing you lots of luck on the restaurant opening!

@brooklyngirl18 Charleston should be perfect this week! I'm about 2 hours south and it's finally cooling off at night and not as humid. I hope you have a great time! I'm not usually inclined to test early, so my vote would be for you to try and abstain until you're back. I know that's much easier said than done, but returning on 10dpo seems perfectly timed.

@2fitBees I'm so happy for you that you had such a good experience with meditation! What an amazing vision you had. I've fallen off my yoga train recently. I was going 2-3 times a week and recently my motivation has been non-existent. You've reminded me what I need to get back to my practice. Thank you for sharing your story!

Well, my day rounded out with a flat tire on the way home, but to spin it as positively as I can: it didn't happen until I was in walking distance to my house; it's a beautiful day for a walk and I didn't miss my appointment to meet the counter people to give them my sink so that install can proceed as planned tomorrow. So, um, yay? (I'm only still positive because I haven't priced the tire yet!) :)

i'm so so excited for this trip. we've only been to charleston once to take a cruise and ended up spending new years eve night there 5 years ago and had a blast, i totally fell in love with the city. then my bil and his family moved there 3 years ago and we finally are going down to visit them. this is such a good time for us to go, i've been exhausted emotionally mentally physically, i just need a break. we leave super early sunday morning.

  • @brooklyngirl18 I've always wanted to go to Charleston. That trip is going to be great.

@2fitBees I've do never done Yoga but that sounds so serene. I've gotta try it one of these days.

@fivetimesnoluck I mean it's 60 degrees but a few days ago we were still in high 80s. I'm in Boston and the squirrels are looking like it's going to be a cold winter! Thanks about the restaurant. Paint is all nearly done today, we ran out of money lol, so hopefully we can open next week as long as the township says ok.
  • Oh I missed this yesterday but I'm still thankful!

@MimoCa I love that the squirrels can tell you how the winter is going to be LOL

@2fitBees that sounds lovely! I've never done Yoga. I was considering Pilates as a pregnancy friendly excercise as I won't be able tu bike to work. But right now we're spending so much money on medicine (regular prenatal, metformin, prolactin control, allergies that I have) and doctors visits, that I have been postponing it.

I am thankful that I managed to pass my first EDD and survive with minor damage. I've been sad now and then, and only freak out once. Now I am much MUCH better.

I am thankful for the support of my beautiful husband!!!! I freaked out at him during my EDD and he was very supportive and caring.

I am thankful for a little piece of furniture that i ordered and arrived yesterday!!! It fits our space very well and looks great!

  • @yolandamunoz I love shopping online when things turn out great like your furniture. Oh yes squirrels, apparently if their tails looks puffy your in for a cold winter or if they look thing the winter is mild. I was told this end of last year so I haven't been able to implement it but with beautician swears by it lol
  • @MimoCa what part of the Boston area are you in (if you don't mind me asking)? We travel to that area every year to visit friends who live on the North Shore.

  • @fivetimesnoluck - what nice things to be thankful for! So sweet of your parents to stop by. That most be an amazing feeling to have your kitchen re do done! How fun to have a brand new kitchen to use too.

@yolondamunoz- Im glad the first EDD went okay and Im always so happy when online orders work out well - esp furniture!

What Im most thankful for right now is that for the first time in almost a year Im feeling good emotionally. Im feeling at peace with everything and still hopeful that one day I will have a family. It has been quite a journey thus far but one that has only made me stronger and I think a better person too. Im hoping this feeling stays for a while.

Im also thankful for cooler weather - I just love this cozy time of year.
  • @Brooklyngirl18 I hope your trip is super relaxing!

@MimoCa I love yoga! It may seem a little weird at first, but try and stick it out. It can be so healing and empowering.

@yolandamunoz I'm so glad you're doing well after your EDD <3 those can be so rough, especially if you're the only one who remembers it or acknowledges it. So glad you have a loving, supportive husband.

This is what I use for my prenatal pilates:

It's not too expensive, I ordered my copy from Barnes and Noble, I believe. You might price around a few different places for the best deal though. Plus each one is only 10 min long! I have tried all 5 workouts, but I'm currently doing just the stretches each day. After a quick warm up the stretches feel amazing! I know someone who did it all through her healthy PG.

@fivetimesnoluck I look forward to the day that I can plan out my very own kitchen and bathroom <3 glad it's going well and almost finished!

@TScalei Glad you're in a good place emotionally. It took me a while to get there, too. I didn't realize how low of a place I was in until I come out. Peace is priceless <3 I'm loving the cooler weather as well :)

  • @fivetimesnoluck I'm from Roxbury, but recently moved to the South Shore (Quincy) which is just about 15 mins from down town Boston via highway.
  • @2fitBees - I know I think realizing how bad you were makes you appreciate how you feel now even more.
  • @brooklyngirl18 We were hoping we could patch it!! But sadly, the tire wasn't able to be patched. Husband works in auto industry and will get a little discount, but a new tire is coming Monday.

@MimoCa awesome! We visit friends in Essex every year around the 4th of July!

    @fivetimesnoluck Essex is nice!

@SoonToBeMommaHowe we have a food truck parked in city Hall plazas on Mondays too! My husband is a country boy too so he made me compromise and move out of Boston to the south Shore lol!
  • I'm thankful for my health and the good health of my DH and parents. I have an aunt who is dealing with some serious health problems right now and it makes you realize how much you take your health for granted.

Im thankful for some new fall clothes I got on stitch fix. I liked everything that was sent and it all fit. Its nice that right now I can afford to treat myself like this and that I have some new clothes for the cooler weather.

Im also thankful for Gilmore Girls - I have been rewatching the show and its such a nice escape. I watched it right after the worst part of my natural mc and I feel like it almost instantly relaxed me and made me feel better. Its so nice to have those escapes. Im also thankful they are bringing it back to netflix next month.
  • @TScalei I have been thinking about trying Stitch Fix. One of my good friends does it and always gets the cutest clothes, but she also spends about $400 each month on her shipment. My budget would be a lot lower, lol. Have you been doing it long?

  • @newmommycoop- I have been doing it for about a year and usually do about one per season. This is the first one that I have really had luck with usually I just buy piece from each box. Its nice if you buy all 5 you get a 25% discount which is pretty nice. I got 4 sweaters and a blanket scarf for around $200 which isnt' too bad. You can choose your budget for each item of clothing and i have the cheapest you can find for everyone. lol Its fun to get mail and see what someone else would pick out for you.
  • @TScalei That is pretty good. I guess if I only did it once a quarter and put a lower dollar amount, it may be worth it. I wasn't sure if the clothing would be, not so nice, if I went lower because she spends so much, so no comparison. It would be fun to clothes in the mail and not know what it is. Hmmm, I may have to sign up!

I'm also thankful for internet!  We had to wait to get our internet installed for 6 days (I know...first world problems). .. but it's so nice to have it back!

I am thankful for my kind, caring, and loving H. He's been my rock through everything this year, and he has infinite patience when my anxieties make me become snappish and irritable. I'm thankful that I get to wake up every morning and come home every day to a dog that wants to jump up and give me lots of kisses because he's so happy to see me. I'm thankful for good friends, good wine, and vacation days from work. We're leaving the weekend rain behind to go to a sunny and warm corner of the state.
  • Today I am thankful for my church and the support we've been given by the congregation. DH and I just recently shared our struggles and asked to be put on the prayer request list and the immense amount of kindness they've shown us has been wonderful.

i'm thankful that we're nearing O day and should have good timing!

lastly I'm thankful for the long weekend that DH and I are gonna spend in northern Maine with my parents. My mom, little sister and I are all in a craft fair Saturday and then we'll go to my hometown church, have family dinner and watch football together on Sunday

Need this thread because the best thing I can do for myself when I have too much to gripe about is to look for gratitude instead.

Today I am thankful for the kindness of friends who have given us home-cooked meals, hot showers, a place to charge our stuff and to do laundry. This is day six without power since Hurricane Matthew.

Grateful that I can keep perspective - so many lost a lot - we had minimal property damage and really are fortunate that it wasn't worse.

I am also thankful for technology that can allow us to watch some tv on the ipad and have a little bit of normalcy in the midst of the chaos.

Also thankful for the show, "This is Us" because it is so good and it may actually be able to replace the hole in my heart from when "Parenthood" went off the air.

Lastly, I will say I am grateful for the cuteness that is "Willoween" - the month where a photographer I have followed for years dresses up her daughter Willow in amazing costumes for the whole month of October. Buzzfeed covered it yesterday. Beware of cuteness overload: bzfd.it/2dLUuOM

  • @fivetimesnoluck I'm so sorry for what you are going through after Hurricane Matthew. Hopefully your power gets restored soon. And I love This is Us too!

I'm thankful for my good health insurance. I had a marathon headache specialist appt and an MRI this week and I had to pay $20 for the whole thing. I thank god I don't have to worry about a huge bull when I see the Dr.

I'm also thankful for cool fall sweater weather then makes it oh so nice to cuddle up with DH under the covers for hours.

And I'm thankful for the Cubs, who won Game 4 of the NLDS with a 3-run inning in the 9th. I'm so excited to see what they can do in the NLCS. Chicago's going to go crazy this week!
  • @fivetimesnoluck I hope your power gets turned back on soon, that is so rough. My thoughts are with you!

I need this thread today, it is hard to retain perspective when I feel so much grief and frustration.  I am thankful that DH is so supportive even though he doesn't *really* understand why I am still so upset or why conceiving again feels so urgent for me.
  • @fivetimesnoluck - I am glad you are hanging in there after the hurricane and have had minimal property damage. Im loving This is Us too!

Thankful for fall foliage - the leaves changing color makes this such a beautiful time of year. I've been trying to really take in the scenery ( even if its just in the car driving to/ from work) since I know it will only be here for such a short time.

Thankful for a short work week  - really needed it this week.

Thankful for my DH - i had a horrible ttcal wknd last wknd and DH stayed home from a concert he was supposed to go to on Tuesday and made me dinner and we cuddled on the couch and watched Halloween movies.
  • Much needed positive thought after three weeks of hell...

I am thankful for scoring some cheap tickets to florida for thanksgiving.  Me and DH needed to get away for some alone time.  We are going to Disney.  At least I don't need to be paranoid about Zika now!
  • Im thankful for this Board - some days it just feels like the most understanding people IRL just don't get it but you can always come on here and someone understands. Its so great having a group of people who know just how you feel and who are still trying to ttcal too ( Im not the only non pg person in the world!).
  • @TScalei I agree with this. This group has been super supportive..so thank you all for that!!! Some days are harder than others. Last night, a friend posted an ultrasound video on FB with the same EDD I had before my MC. Made me sooo sad. But, reading these posts, the success stories and the daily struggle of TTC here allows me to see things from a different perspective...it gives me hope!

  • @endo_mom - pg announcements for when you you should have been due are so hard. It just seems so surreal that other people are going on to have their babies at that time while you are still trying ttcal. I felt like i just wanted to shout I SHOULD have been having a baby then. Its just tough but this Board does help.
  • Im thankful I was able to get testing that I needed and my insurance covered it ( a couple of higher copays but I realize in the big scheme of things that is nothing). And thankful after 2 back to back mmcs I finally got some answers as to what is going on so the next time that I am pg we can treat it. Thankful I got testing after 2 mcs. My best friend's sister has the same thing and has 3 kids now so she has been a source of information and hope.

As always, Im thankful for all of you and people in IRL who have gone through this bec I am learning that unless you have gone through it you just don't know what its like. And Im working on not blaming people for that - but that is process.

Also thankful for distractions  - I have been reading a lot lately ( mostly Harry Potter) and it has been such an escape for me.
